Word includes a variety of useful templates. When building a resume it is a great idea to begin with a Word template. Resume templates also can help you understand what sort of things you need to include in a resume.

Newsletters can be made from scratch by separating the page into two sections with a continuous section break – the top area remains configured as a single column and the bottom area becomes multi-column.

The top of the newsletter is called

the “Masthead” (like a website) and

contains important identificationinformation.

The Text Effects command is a very convenient way to add nicely formatted text.

Add symbols by going to the Insert tab / Symbols group / Symbols command.

A drop cap can be added as a design element, and helps emphasize the beginning of the main body text.

NewsletterA pull quote can be used to highlight an important part of the text. Pull quotes feature a sentence, or part of a sentence. When you use a pull quote, keep the original text in the newsletter also.

NewsletterAdd a page border and page color. The page color could be used to emulate the paper color that you are going to print on.

Picture Styles with the Style Gallery

Picture Styles can be added to pictures and clip art used in your document.

You can select premade styles from the style gallery.

Format Painter

The format painter is used to copy text or number formats from one area to another. It is a time saver.

Newsletter

Saving as a PDF (portable document format) is a convenient way to share the newsletter. PDFs are opened with Adobe Acrobat, or the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. (This is also an ideal way to send your resume to potential employers.)
