ThankYou,

VeteranCOMMAND

FRd\KE COHEEJT.

I THEN & \,O1^r.

To MY Friends and Fellow Veterans:

I want to thank those of you that attended the appreciation dinner on June 28th. at the Wedgewood Golf andCountry Club. lt was not perfect (the lost of the air conditioning did not help) but then it was the first time, I believe, for having such an 6vent here in Polk County. Thanks to my good friend Sun Shin. Oo not ask what happened tothe cocktail hour, because I do not know. Thanks also for our friends from Chapter 175 who bussed about 28people over from St Petersburg. As for our last meeting, thanks to Walt for bringing in a potential new member,Amos ?. I gave him an application to Join National and hopefully he will. Then we will sign him up for the Chapter.Oh, as I told the members at the meeting I finalty had to drop Loren Arthur from the Chapter. He can be reinstatedonce he pays his National and Chapter dues. For those of you that were not at the last meeting, you missed agood film on the road to viclory and the Chosin Reservoir lhat u€s provided by Walt Benton- I am sure many of usreflec{ed on some of the things w6 saw in the film, some more than others. As most of you know those of us thatwere there in 195G1953 are haditionally refured to as Combat Veterans and rightfully so. Again, some m(re st)than others. We arc all Korean War Veterans even those that served after the 1953 Armistice. The troops that arethere today, who have boots on lhe ground, are still in harms wey. When I reflect on the film, lwas one of thelucky ones. Was I cold, yes sometimes depending on where we were. Was I in harms way, yes sometimes whenthere was the possibility of being overrun or attacked. Did I have to liv6 day after day in fo)d|oles or trenches. No I

did not . I think that I dug one foxhole whil6 I was thers. Ar€ we Combat Veterans? Your dam right we are. Someof us were just luckier. lwould have been proud to have been awarded the Combat lnfantry Badge, but eventhough we were in direct support of the lnfanay Companies and the Division Battalions, Regiments and theartillery was firing over our heads we were a support unit. Really?
