President’s Pen...President’s Pen...President’s Pen...Dear colleagues,
On behalf of Delhi Medical Association, I take up the opportunity to
wish all the office bearers, executives, members and the families a
very happy and prosperous Diwali. May the festival of lights enlighten
your life with sparkling lamps and crackling fireworks and infuse it with
happiness, success and health.
Friends, we shall be celebrating with real when we get our profession free from clutches of Diwali
so many legislations, acts etc. We always at every forum talk about draconian Clinical
Establishment Act, PCPNDT Act, Consumer Protection Act, BMW Management Act, issue of
violence on Doctors.
We might have certain internal differences so far as elections are concerned which is the internal
issue of our association, for all the problems related to medical fraternity we have to be united like
nation unites at the time of war.
I feel gone are the days of peaceful agitation, Satyagraha and giving memorandums to the
Ministers. Now straightforward we should take aggressive measures like complete shut down of
medical services across the country for one day or more including closure of emergency services
and surgery, strict refusal by our doctors to treat politicians whatsoever senior he/she may be until
and unless our genuine demands are taken care of.
I really hope in the coming months the IMA HQ Central Leadership together with the state leaders
envisage the new modalities for a permanent solution to these problems. DMA has always
remained on forefront to deal with issues like CEA, changes in master plan in Delhi etc, and we
strive to work harder for the benefit of fraternity at Delhi.
Long live DMA!

healthy ageing
The increasing incidence of NCD to an epidemic proportion is largely being linked to life style; this is dependent on 'BEHAVIOUR' of the individual. The top killers in INDIA are Heart Attack/ Failure; Brain Stroke/ hemorrhage; COPD; Diabetes & Cancer, if you carefully observe they have one thing in common-ALL HAVE HIGH RATES OF SUCCESS OF PREVENTION.
Therefore society is doing something by itself to land itself in trouble. The solution is a mass behaviour change in society, this requires a scientifically established method and that is 'HEALTH EDUCATION'. Unfortunately what is being practiced today is all 'health propaganda' and the result is there to see and study.
HealthEducation: It is defined as the principle by which individuals and groups of people learn to behave in a manner conducive to the promotion, maintenance, or restoration of health. The ultimate aim of health education is positive 'Behavioural Modification'.
Education for health begins with people. It works to motivate them with whatever interests they may have in improving their living conditions. Its aim is to develop in them a sense of responsibility for health conditions for themselves as individuals, as members of , and as communities. Health Education has an extensible families
researched approach methodology similar in each project undertaken; it is the IEC approach, Information Education & Counseling.
The term can also refer to the process of educating health professionals, including post-Health Education
secondary education culminating in supervised experience, in the medicine this is termed as CME or Continued Medical Education. Health promotion is the tool for health education; it is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. The purpose of health promotion is to positively influence the health behavior of individuals and communities as well as the living and working conditions that influence their health.
HealthPropaganda:This can be defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence the
emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes it has taken the form of artwork, films, speeches, and music, though it's not limited to these forms of communication.
Common examples of propagandaOverstating participation the concept of "Get on the Bandwagon"; everyone else is doing it, and so should you.
Generating fear - Fear generated to change people's behavior. Ads show a bloody accident then remind people to wear their seatbelts.
Promising happiness - Selling happiness is a concept used in ads, such as a well-liked actor will explain why you need to buy a product in order to solve a problem.
Appealing to tradition - Good feelings are generated by the thoughts of certain goods and actions.
Assertion - This is presenting a fact without any proof, as in “This is the best cavity-fighting toothpaste out there.”
