AVSA So it’s AVSA here for the last time this year and for those of you just reading these an-nouncements for the first time, I’d like to extend a warm salutations and reminisce on the year that has been.

So the year started with Barn Dance, Wild Wild West style. This was the event’s second year running and was a real hoot (even though I couldn’t make it, I heard rave reviews). The middle of the year brought with it Vet Ball, eve-ryone’s highlight, and with a Secret Garden theme and a great MC (yours truly), the night was a great success. A special mention goes to our in house DJ Andrew Nicholls, photogra-pher Chrissy McGuiness and external events coordinator, Sian Hay, for their work to make the night possible.

We also had industry night and quiz night in the second semester, but I think everyone’s high-light was Roseworthy Revue. Hosted by AVSA at Wasely’s Hall, it was the first time that we held this event, and it was absolutely AWE-SOME. For those who missed it, definitely find someone who has video footage as the night was full of laughs and talent. A special thanks goes to all people who performed on the night (my personal favourite, The Backstreet Boys J ), to the Revue committee (both teachers and students) who organised and ran the event and to all those who came along and watched; we

have started a tradition that can now be passed on for many years to come. The biggest thank-you has to go the Darren Trott; without you the Revue would never have been possible, so on behalf of the student body, we applaud you!

An honourable mention goes to a very special year level at our university; the first graduates of Veterinary Medicine, our sixth years. Con-gratulations, you have all worked so hard to make it to where you are today and the rest of us can only look up to you in awe. Good luck with your final exams and for the future, we wish you prosperity and happiness, wherever your degree takes you! I’d also like to mention another special group; my graduating class of 2013 for Veterinary Bio-science!! Just think, after these exams you will be half-way there, YAY! And to everyone over the exam period, study hard and good luck.

Finally, our AGM was held recently and the new committee for 2014 selected. Thanks to all who nominated and voted and congratulations to the following team:

President: Ashleigh Hargreaves Vice President: Hannah Bobrowski Secretary: Tom Westerman Treasurer: Jordan Meade

Sponsorship Coordinator: Nicola Woodward External Events Coordinator: Gina Gains-borough-Waring Internal Events Coordinator: Ellen McBryde Publicity Officer: Carla Pendini Clubs Liaison Officer: Alex Barrow Merchandise: Andrea Rieger General Committee Members: Evelien Jong, Christine McGuinness, Abi Brough and Lib-erty Hogg

Nominations for year level reps will be held at the start of next year for those interested. Also a huge thank-you to Abi and Frankie for their work are President and Vice-President over the past year.

So everyone, have a great summer; stay safe and have lots of fun (not to mention get to the beach and soak up some sun!)

Catch you in the new year…..

Carla and the AVSA committee!

Roseworthy College Netball Club In 2013 we saw huge an increase in the amount of interest in netball as we moved from the com-petitive Gawler association to the more social environment at Starplex. There were 40 girls who were interested in playing netball for Roseworthy this year which enabled 5 teams to be entered into the Monday night competition. Each week the teams and players played their matches in good spirit and enthusiasm with each team improving each week with success coming as a consequence.

The successful season was topped off with 2 of the teams making it into the final series. A big thankyou to all the team managers who ensured that the teams were organised and ready to play each week and helped make the season run smoothly. As we look forward to 2014 we hope to have just as much interest in the netball club as we strive to improve the club and its success in the future.

This year has seen some great development of Moo Crew. There were many great events such as Teaching Cow Sessions, talks from various staff, a visit to Dublin Saleyards and of course Rural Practice Day. The group has also had a name change late in the year to the Production Animal SIG (PASIG), which will see some more big changes in 2014.

As president I would like to thank the 2013 com-mittee Liz Napier, Chris George, Lachlan Cam-eron, Emily Warner, Tina Niap, Jordan Meade and Kirsty Cordon. The committee members have all worked very hard this year to get the group up and running. We wish the new commit-tee the very best of luck with all of your endeav-ours in 2014.

2013 Roseworthy Campus Men’s and Ladies’ Basketball Fresh from a big pre-season and showing off some fine new cloth, Roseworthy was well represented by two teams in 2013. After show-ing plenty of early promise in training, each team was keen to stamp their authority on the competition; and each other to determine who was top dog in the weekly fixture on Tuesday night. However neither of the first two show-downs between the college teams delivered a winner with both games ending in draws. With the two biggest units out for the third and final showdown, the RWiest pups were pipped by the well experienced ‘originals’ to take the victo-ry. It may not be a ring, but it’s as close as any team came to glory in a season well-interrupted by the holiday schedule and exams. Other highlights during the year include: the 30° dor-sal rotation of James Fensham’s head whilst draining 3’s, Balasz lobbing hand grenades from mid-court and Pitbull and his healthy dose of aggression during training sessions. And

where would we be without Keith’s weekly segment of trash talking on the way to games.

Awards this year (donated by Student Ser-vices):

Roseworthy- (MVP): James Fensham, (Outstanding Commitment to Roseworthy Basketball): Jon Bartsch, (Most Consistent) Michael Wilkes. Roseworthiest- (MVP): Oliver Wilkie, (Most Improved): Alex Hib-bard, (Fiercest Competitor): Stuart Packer.

It was excellent to see so much improve-ment in all of the boys, especially those that gave it a shot for the first time (Lachie, Hamish, Hibbard and Stuart). Roseworthy basketball in 2014 may yet finally deliver a championship!

What a great year of ladies Basketball! 2013 again saw the entry of two teams in the Starplex competition and this time both teams came away with several wins to their names. Both showdowns were highly competitive and closely fought out with Rosey white just managing to sneak in the win in both matches. Roseworthy Black:

This year was one of our best, kicking off with a few losses at first however it didn’t take long for our new recruits Prue and Kate to bring their A-game. And boy did they bring it! Averaging well over 30 points a game (almost double of our top score last year) we couldn’t believe how far we’d come. It even hit the stage when we hit double digits within the first 5 minutes of the game and no longer felt the need to celebrate. Our new found success reflected our hard work attending fortnightly trainings in which many of our skills improved significantly. Our shots started sinking and our defense improved significantly. The addition of Iona half way through the season saw out the rest of a successful season with roseworthy black snagging a few wins at the end however not enough to make it to finals. Well done ladies. Awards (donated by Student Services):

Best & fairest: Prue Hicks, runner up best and fairest: Kate Hardman, most improved: Emma Nelson

Roseworthy White:

We made finals!!! Unfortunately we only man-aged a crowd of 2 to watch this historic event and despite missing half our team losing the semi final by only 10 points was a great achieve-ment. Other highlights for the season included our sometimes (well often) questionable basket-ball skills, the games when Sharnna alone scored more points than the entire other team, Nicola tripping over her own feet, accidentally hitting Eunice in the face with the basketball, and a record number of high fives, halfway shots and laughs. Awards (donated by Student Services):

Best & fairest: Sharnna Devereux, runner up best and fairest: Nicola Woodward, most im-proved: Eunice Lam

Finally we would like to say a HUGE thank you to the dedicate sixth years who took time out of their busy study schedules to play each week! We would like to acknowledge Steph Warwick, Brittany Anderson, Emma Johnson and Bec Lambert for their outstanding commitment to the Roseworthy Panthers Basketball Club over the past 6 years. Congratulations ladies on all you hard work and good luck on your final exams!
