We have come to the most sacred time of the year in the Christian faith, Easter. There are many rumors, myths, and fables about this time of year. Some of those are true, and others serve to confuse us in our pursuit of truth. I believe with all my heart, that God sent Jesus, who gave his life, and rose three days later with a victory over death and the grave. My hope is in the real-ity of the resurrection. I worship the day he rose, in perpetual celebration. Because he lives, I know without a doubt, I will live again. His death purchased my salvation, and my faith in that fact gives me reason to worship.

Many of our youth are slowly approach-ing the end of their school life So many of you I have walked with through your vari-ous awards and activities. I am proud of

you, as any parent would be for the ones they have nurtured. Please take the time to find all scholarships and awards available to help you in your educational, military, and professional careers. We will be implementing a new effort to aid in assisting students, by way of profes-sional church members, to discover tech-niques, principles and skills that will strength-en you as you prepare for the future. I want to thank Sis. Marcia Mathews for this sugges-tion. Don’t pass up this opportunity to be mentored by successful persons in the market.

I want to applaud the various ministries as you start your activities for the year. I pray that God will bless what is being done for the Kingdom. Let us not be weary in well doing. Give your all and receive the blessing.

Thank you once again for your support and your prayers. I pray that as I serve, you will serve, and we will enable this church to be a church in the word, making a difference in the world.

The 39th Annual Honors Convocation for High School Students, grades 9th to 12th, sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Hunts-ville Alumnae Chapter, was held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, 3:00 p.m. at Progressive Union Church. The program recognizes high school students who made the ‘A’ or ‘A/B’ Honor for the first semester of the high school year. Progressive Union members hon-ored were: Travion Crutcher, Kynnedie Edwards, Ted (TJ) Edwards, Bryce Ellis, Sydney Greene, Kortney Hale, Javier Morris, Vivica Parker, Drew Stanley, and Thornton Stanley, III. In addition Tra-vion Crutcher, Kynnedie Edwards, Kortney Hale, and Vivica Parker all seniors, were recognized for being Four Year Scholars, students who were schol-ars their four high school years. National Society of Black Engineers Scholar Banquet

The North Alabama National Society of Black Engineers Professional Chapter held their 25th Scholarship Banquet on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Two Progressive Union members received Presiden-tial Scholarships. Dionna Robinson, senior at Buck-horn High School, and Travion Crutcher, senior at

“Making a Difference in the World” Part 86

Submitted by Bro. James E. Smith Scripture tells us to take the time and learn of the

Gospel of Jesus the Christ. Then Paul tells us to study the scriptures to show ourselves approved by God.

Progressive Union makes every effort for this to be possible. We have two Church Services most Sundays. We have Sunday School and Bible Studies Monday through Thursday of every week. We are definitely a Church in the Word of God.

Are we being like the Scribes and Pharisees, full of the scripture but not exercising what we know? We are to live our lives by the example that Christ left for us. Christ wants us to Love everyone regard-less.

Christ wants us to render aid to our brothers. Christ wants us to follow his guidance and not lean to our own understanding of life.

Scripture tells us to turn from self and heed to God’s will.

Our world is full of killings, robbery, fornication, lust after money, and the list goes on. Our Sunday School lesson this past Sunday warns us of what happens from not following Jesus the Christ.

When we turn from our evils ways and follow Christ then we will “Start Making a Difference in the World”. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Titus II group will visit the Whitesburg Man-or Health Care Center on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. The visit is a monthly visit for the group, held on each second Sunday in the month. If you are interested in becoming a part of the visitation or need additional information please contact Sister Dorothy Matthews, 256-603-7815.
