There is only one service at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday during the summer. Two services resume Sept. 9, 2018. Sunday July 1 Chicago Folk Service will be led by Mark Roock. Sunday July 8 Mark Roock will preside and Pr. Jim Bennett will preach. Sunday July 15 Pastor Stephanie Doeschot will be preaching. Sunday July 22 - Pastor Stephanie Doeschot will be preaching. Sunday July 29 - Pastor Tom Schoenherr will be preaching.

Christ Lutheran has PRIDE!

For the first time, Christ Lutheran participated with other local Reconciling in Christ Affirming Churches in Pride

weekend, June 23-24. Gethsemene, Bethel, Unity, and St. Marks joined Christ Lutheran to host a Pride booth

offering information about our churches, temporary tattoos and games, and to march in the Pride parade. Please

mark your calendars for the 3rd weekend in June next year! We'd love to see you join our efforts to spread the

word that Christ is open and loving of all people.

Thanks to Steve and Sherry Mitchler for staffing the booth and to Carolyn Crowe, Sarah Ringkor, Katie, David and

WELCOME TO PASTOR STEPHANIE

Thank you for the warm and wonderful welcome I have received from Christ Lutheran already! The generosity of spirit and hospitality that you embody is noticeable immediately upon each and every worship service and meeting that I've already been privileged to share in with you.

By way of a brief introduction, I have come to you as your Resident Pastoral Intern through collaboration in ministry with several ELCA activities around the metro area of St. Louis in the past several years. The primary point of intersection has been through the work of The Bridge in New Town, since it is a joint ELCA-RCA ministry. In case that raises more questions than it achieves in providing answers, let me explain. I am a rostered Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Reformed Church in America (RCA), one of the partners with the ELCA through the Formula of Agreement, signed and celebrated in 1997 (http://download.elca.org/ELCA%20Resource%20Repository/A_Formula_Of_Agreement.pdf).

I did not go to high school in St. Louis, because I was raised in northwest Iowa, in the small town of Hull. I graduated from Northwestern College, a private, liberal arts college in Orange City, Iowa, then received a Master of Religious Education degree at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI, after which I served as a campus minister first at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and then at Hope College in Holland, MI. It was during that time that I realized I was being called to work on the Master of Divinity degree which I completed and then was subsequently ordained in the RCA. While working with The Bridge, I was also asked to become a Mission Developer for the ELCA, when my colleague Terry Moore left the Metro Coalition to accept a position in Springfield, Illinois. So I have been actively engaged in both RCA and ELCA assemblies and ministries for the past 10 years.

My husband Phil and I have three sons and three daughters-in-law, with one grandson: Andrew, Nicole and Jack live in Columbia, IL, Stephen and Pam live in Glendale, and Tim and Chris live in the South Hampton neighborhood of STL. We love St. Louis and seek to live out the call issued in Jeremiah 29:7 to "seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you."

I am looking forward to the adventure and challenge of being in ministry with you in this coming year!

I have served as a pastor of Christ's Church in St. Peters, MO since 1989, having moved here from Michigan with my husband and three sons to co-plant that church. I am still finishing up a few responsibilities there until August, when my husband will be retired from full-time pastoral service. So yes, you guessed it - I, too, am part of a clergy couple, just as Pastors Keith and Penny were as they served in this church for several years. I have enjoyed a rich and diverse ministry, thanks to our partnership with the ELCA in large measure. Another aspect of the ministry I have enjoyed was to serve on the staff of the Reformed Church in America as the Coordinator of Adult Discipleship from 2012-13, before I returned to work once again at Christ's Church and with The Bridge. Additionally, my husband and I both served as volunteer and then part-time on-call chaplains at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital for many years. During our initial years there, we were pleased to work under the supervision of Jim Bennett.

** Income is $11,300 below budget due a continuing slump in regular giving. We

are $8,000 below our average income over the past 3 years, and $11,000 (6%)

behind last year’s contribution amounts. Summertime giving is typically slow for

us due to vacations and other warm weather activities, so please consider

helping us to offset this trend by keeping current and adding a little extra if that

is possible. Thanks so much!

**Expenses remain in good control, remaining below budget overall, except for

some very large bills for repairs to our HVAC systems at the Church & the Mead

Center—we are overspent by $7000 in repairs, with more costs to come ☹.

Christ in the Country – Saturday, July 28, 2018 A Day of Fellowship and Fun

Saturday, July 28 - the congregation is invited to the country log-home of Joan & Bob O’Brien, for swimming, fishing, floating on the upper Meramec River, jeep rides, pedal boat rides, ladder golf, trail walks, games of washers, cards, just relaxing, fishing derby for the kids, and plenty of food. Their log home is located 52 miles southwest from highway 270 on Highway 44 in the proximity of St. Clair, MO. – approximately 1 hour away). Directions will be given to you upon sign-up! Be sure you receive them! Their air-conditioned home and fishing dock are partially handicap accessible with just 1 or 3 steps into the 2-story house. There are plenty of bathrooms/bedrooms for changing clothes after your water sports or for napping babies or seniors!! Hopefully you’ll see some wildlife – geese, turkeys, Missouri Blue Birds, Purple Martins, and hummingbirds; the deer are best seen at dusk – if you can stay that late. Activities begin about 9AM (arriving earlier for fishing is OK …. Just let the O’Brien’s know - see phone numbers below). The day ends in the evening, following a delicious fish fry overseen by Bob himself. In the early afternoon is the Fishing Derby for the children - if you don’t have equipment, the O’Brien’s have plenty on hand for you. Please bring food & beverages to share at lunch time (noonish to 1PM); likewise, for dinner please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Dinner will be served approximately 5:30 or 6PM (fish a la O’Brien)! Stay later in the evening for jeep rides to see the wildlife – best seen at dusk!! QUESTIONS?? Taking Care of the Caregiver* - Sunday, October 14

This session will address the challenges care givers face and how they can affect the caregiver’s quality of

life. To be the best caregiver, we know we have to take care of ourselves. This session focuses on self-care,

renewal and reengagement.
