A Pastor’s PerspectiveBecky and I enjoyed our time away to visit our kids/grandkids last week. Round-

trip, we traveled over 1300 miles of beautiful highways. I think I enjoyed the alone time in the truck with Becky as much as I did visiting the kids.

It was good to be back in church with you on Sunday. Andy gave us a lot to think about didn’t he? Mark 8:34-35: If anyone would come after me, he (she) must deny himself (herself) and take up his (her) cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his (her) life will lose it, but whoever loses his (her) life for me and for the gospel will save it.

As I listened to Andy’s message, I thought about how true it is that we gain life by giving ours away. First, salvation comes as we humbly give our heart and life to Christ. Giving our lives, we find new life of spiritual abundance in Him. It’s then we gain the strength through the Holy Spirit to deny self, take up our cross and follow Christ. We give and lose our life FOR Christ. We do have much to lose as Andy said; and, as Christ knows. The kicker is that as we give all we are and have, it is with the assurance it all rests in God’s faithful hands. We each make this decision daily to deny self and place all we are and have in His hands to use for His glory. So, I’m ask-ing you to consider today what it is He would ask of you?

Many of you have received a call or will receive a call in the coming weeks asking you to give. This won’t be a call to give money. The call will be asking for more. The call will ask you to give of yourself to serve in a leadership and/or teaching role in the upcoming church year. Every member is busy with responsibilities at home and at work. That may be an understatement with all YOU have going on in your life right now. Each one of us has gifts the Lord’s given that are important to our being a func-tional part of His Body here at Snyder. As you are asked to serve, please consider your gifts and this opportunity to give….to give yourself away in serving Christ’s church. This body, our youth and our children need you.

How true Andy’s words were this Sunday…..because, they are Christ’s words: If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his (her) life will lose it, but whoever loses his (her) life for me and for the gospel will save it.

See you Sunday! Bruce
