In Loving Memory of those who are

forever in our hearts.

Page 5: Volume 19 THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 27, … · 10/27/2019  · †Beatrice, Rudolph & Deborah Sandoval Tuesday, 10/29 8:00am †Tony La Manna Jr. Wed., 10/30 8:00am

Pre-K and Kindergarten students went on a field trip to Kohl Children’s Museum in Glenview. Everyone had so much fun! First, they took a class called “Build It”. The children were read the story “The 3 Little Pigs”. They were then able to have some “hands on” learning by building a house of their own using

different kinds of blocks to see which were the best. The students were then able to explore the rest of the museum. They learned a lot and had tons of fun!

Recently, our Family School Association hosted a trunk or treat! Children came to trick or treat trunk to trunk in our Church’s parking lot. The weather was beautiful and the children enjoyed all of the tasty treats passed out!

School safety is a priority in our school. We practice drills in case of fire, tornado, school bus evacuation, and threats inside or outside of our school. In order for a child to come to school ready to learn, it is crucial that they feel safe to learn.

This school year, 6 students received Illinois Tax Credit Scholarships. A Tax Credit Scholarship is money that was donated to an organization and in return the person who made the donation receives a 75% tax credit from their Illinois State taxes. Money can be specifically donated to Divine Providence School. This scholarship is a need-based scholarship that families must apply annually. It can cover up to 100% of a child’s tuition. This year, we will receive more than $20,000 in Tax Credit Scholarships!

As our school year moves on, our students look forward to other school events such as the middle school dance, Halloween parade, special lunches and much more.

Thank you for your support of Divine Providence School!

Peace, Lynn LeTourneau Principal

Over two months have passed since we opened the school doors for the 2019-2020 school year and we have been blessed to welcome so many new students to our school! This year we have almost 250 students in our school, 17 teachers, and 4 teacher assistants. Recently, I have been looking through books that have had the history of our school. Our school opened the doors in 1958. There were 281 students in grades one through sixth and were taught by a staff of 7 teachers, 3 nuns and 4 lay teachers. In 1967, our school reached its peak enrollment with 724 students in sixteen classrooms! Over the years, educating a child has changed drastically. Today, we are teaching algebra to our 8th grade and kindergarten children learn to read! One aspect though, has gone unchanged- teaching our children about our faith- its history, traditions and living as disciples! Religion is taught every day in our school and students attend Mass every Wednesday. During the month of October, the school prays a decade of the Rosary together, led by our middle school students. Come pray with us! Our theme for this school year is “Angels Among Us”. We remind our students that angels are everywhere and can look like anyone and can show up anywhere.

Some of the highlights of this school year!

Our Divine Providence 6th grade scientists engineered their own energy contraptions. The objective was to create a machine that displayed energy transformations, used simple machines, and performed an end task. The students had 3 time trial

races to observe whose machine kept motion going the longest! The engineers listed step by step how their device was built. Then the students drew a blueprint of their devices. The 8th graders, in science, were engineering a cardboard prosthetic arm. The students had to use all of the same materials. Their innovative ideas had special tasks to perform. The students had to be able to drop the various objects 2 feet away into a can. Then the engineers had a contest to see which helping hand could pick up the most objects from 2 feet away.

REMINDER All Souls Day is November 2nd. While we will not be having a special liturgy this year, we will have the Paschal Candle lighted during the evening masses on Saturday and a framed list of all parishioners who have died during the past year will be placed on the Table of Remembrance at both worship sites. Parishioners who have lost a loved one are invited to bring a small framed picture of this person for display on the table that will be set up in each church. At Divine Infant, the table will be in front of the Divine Infant Shrine. At Divine Providence, the table will be placed to the right of the new Mary and Child statue. In addition to the name of the deceased (on the front), please put your name and telephone number on the back of the picture. Pictures can be placed on the table starting October 28th, and should be removed during the first weekend of Advent, November 30th & December 1st. This will be an opportunity for all of us to join in prayer as a parish family for our deceased loved ones.

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES

Sunday: Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time; Priesthood Sunday Monday: Ss. Simon and Jude Thursday: Halloween Friday: All Saints; First Friday Saturday: The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day); First Saturday

The last Sunday in October is a special day set aside to honor the priesthood in the United States. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one.

Priesthood Sunday sends a message that the parish priest, as the instrument of Christ’s ministry on earth, is loved and respected by those in the parish community.

Let us join together on this special day to pray for our priests, and praise God for their courage and generosity in giving of themselves completely to God’s service.

We encourage you to make your appreciation known by acknowledging

Fr. Marcin, Fr. Dan, Fr. Tom and Fr. Jerry

with a simple note of gratitude for their presence and direction at

Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish

Just like the 3 colors in the

candy corn I see,

There are 3 persons in the Holy Trinity:

GOD the FATHER GOD the SON, JESUS

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT

All 3 are GOD, yet together they are One.

What is it like to be a Chris an?”

“It is like a pumpkin. God picks you from the patch, brings you in

and washes all the dirt off of you. Then he cuts off the top and scoops out all the

yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of sin, doubt, jealousy, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for

all the world to see.”
