Issue 9

As Fall sneaks up on us it is

important to remember to keep

our minds warm and ready for

knowledge.

The temperature is steady

falling; but here at Stonewall

Tell Elementary School we are

constantly “Setting Trends by

Exceeding Standards.”

Trend Setting is very important

whether it is a fashion statement

or a life statement, it makes

people think, “Hey if they can

excel that way I can too.” So

when you get dressed in the

morning before coming to

school and before you put on

your warm hats and coats – be

sure you adorn yourself with the

SWT Thinking Cap.

This “thinking cap” is to mentally

prepare you for the learning day

ahead and help you continue to

show your school pride. When

you make learning a top priority

in your life you are not only

making yourself one of

Stonewall Tell’s Top Trend

Setters; you are setting yourself

up for a Golden Future filled

endless possibilities.

So as we approach the Iowa

Test of Basic Skills, October 22-

26th, stay focused. Come to

School on time and dressed to

impress with your SWT Thinking

Cap ready to learn!

Healthy Kids, Smart Kids

Stonewall Tell Elementary has adopted the Healthy Kids, Smart Kids wellness initiative. We believe that healthier eating habits and consistent exercise have a positive impact on our children’s learning and ultimately their test scores. When sending classroom snacks, please remember that this is a “Sugar-Free Zone” school. Do not send soft drinks, fruit drinks with processed sugar, candy, cookies, ice cream, cupcakes, cakes, hot fries or sugary snacks. Also note that birthday parties that include cakes, cookies, wings, ice cream and other treats are prohibited and will not be allowed in the building. Healthier items such as fruit cups, fresh fruit, pretzels, baked chips, 100% juice, fresh vegetables, 100% fruit snacks, granola bars, animal crackers and items with low salt and minimum sugar are allowed.

** Due to nut allergies, please do not send any snacks with peanuts or peanut butter in them.

Parents please note that if your child has a fever of at least 100

degrees (F) they must be “fever-

free” for 24 hours before returning to school. This policy will be strictly

enforced so that we might combat/prevent the spread of any flu-like virus in the school.

Counselor’s Corner Being a parent is the most demanding job in the world, yet most of us train “on the job.” When things are going well, savor the moment. When things are not going well you may feel stressed and overwhelmed.

· Are you sleeping and eating too much or too little?

· Do you take your frustrations out on your kids?

· Do you feel out of control?

· Do you feel as if your children misbehave on purpose?

· Do you strike out physically or verbally when angry?

· Do you have chronically upset stomach or muscle aches, especially in your back and neck?

· Are you frustrated because your children don’t listen?

· Do you feel as if you pick on one particular child?

· Do you feel as if you can’t talk to your kids?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you may need to reach out for help. Call your school counselor for resources and information.
