This is Jack and Jacqui, they will be the Duty Managers working at the theatre when you come and see the show.

They and their team, who will be wearing black and a badge with The Lyceum logo on it, are there if you need help or

have any questions on your visit.

You’ll be sitting in the stalls, the ground floor of the theatre. It can be busy with lots of people.

You can bring drinks and snacks into the theatre. All drinks have to be in a plastic cup or bottle as no glass is allowed in the auditorium. We can provide you with plastic cups if you

need them.

Please be seated by 7pm

At about 7pm the performance will begin

A performance is when you watch people called actors tell a story

Page 8: Visual Story Wendy and Peter Pan - lyceum.org.uk · Wendy and Peter Pan Relaxed Performance: 3 January, 7pm . This is the outside of the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh where you will

First of all the actors will come onto the stage to introduce themselves and the characters they play

(the people they pretend to be in the story).

After this, it will get slightly darker but the lights will still be on.

It’s OK if you need to leave during the performance - there will be staff available to help you at all times.

The performance lasts roughly 2 hours 20 minutes with a break of 20 minutes in the middle which we call ‘the interval’.

It’s a chance for the actors to have a rest and you to have a walk around, take a break or have something to eat and

drink.

The characters in the performance

Here are pictures of the different actors and the name of the main characters they play. Some actors play more than one character and, so they look different, they change the way that they move and talk and their costume (a costume is a

name for the clothes actors wear on stage).

As this is an exciting adventure some of the characters will occasionally shout or speak louder than others.

This is Wendy Darling, a young girl with a vivid imagination. The show begins in the bedroom of her house which she

shares with her brothers, where we learn about her family life.

Here we have the rest of Wendy’s family.

Mr & Mrs Darling, Wendy’s mum & dad. They are very loving and protective of their children.

John, Michael, & Tom are Wendy’s little brothers. They look up to Wendy as she is the eldest, and they love to play

games.

This is Peter Pan. He is sometimes known as the Boy who Never Grows Up because he lives in a magical place called

Neverland where he doesn’t age. This means that he doesn’t understand everything about the world Wendy and her brothers live in, and they don’t know about Neverland.

Peter has another magical ability – he can fly!

This is Tinkerbell. She is a friend of Peter Pan’s from Neverland, and is a fairy. Her fairy dust can be used to make

people fly.

These are some more of Peter’s friends, The Lost Boys. They also live in Neverland and are quite unruly – they want a

mother to look after them.

This is Captain Hook and Smee, his sidekick. They are pirates who really don’t like Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. In fact they don’t like anybody really. Captain Hook has a hook instead of

a hand which was eaten by a crocodile.

This is Tiger Lily. She is an excellent fighter and really doesn’t like Captain Hook. She works alongside Wendy, Peter & the

Lost Boys against the pirates.

We said earlier that some of the characters can fly, so make sure you look up in the theatre when you’re watching the

show and see it for yourself!

When the performance is finished, people may clap their hands to show how much they liked the story.

You may want to cover your ears or wear ear protectors if you find the sound too loud.

If you do not like to clap your hands you can wave at the actors instead.

This is the room where you can chill out if you want to before, during or after the performance. It is called the Henry Irving Room and theatre staff will show you where it is if you

want to use it.
