VISIT MARAMURES REGION AND TURDA SALT MINE Maramureș is a geographical, historical and ethno- cultural region in northern Romania and western Ukraine. It is situated on the northeastern Carpathians, along the upper Tisa River; it covers the Maramureș Depression and the surrounding Carpathian mountains. Alternatively, the name Maramureș is used for the Maramureș County of Romania, which contains the southern section of the historical region.

Depression and the surrounding Carpathian mountains.Alternatively, the name Maramureș is used for the Maramureș County of Romania,

The limits of the region are between the parallels of 47°33' N and 40°02' N and the meridians of 23°15' E and 25°03' E. Maramureș represents one of the largest depressions in the Carpathians, covering an area of about 10000 km². The mountains surrounding this region occupy more than half of the area. Several peaks reach 2000m, such as Pietrosul (2303m) in the Rodnei Mountains to the south and Hovârla (2061m) in Muntele Negru (Cernahora) to the north.

TURDA SALT MINESalina Turda is a salt mine situated in Turda, Transylvania, Romania. According to Business Insider, it is the most beautiful underground place in the world. Since opening in 1992 until today, Salina Turda was visited by about 2 million Romanian and foreign tourists.

Salt was first extracted here during the antiquity and the mine continuously produced table salt from the Middle Ages (the mine being first mentioned in 1075) to the early 20th century (1932).
