Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part

Overview Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part makes it possible always to be informed about the time and weather

of your time zone. You just have to add this web part to your SharePoint site and adjust its view according to your

needs.

Note: you need online connection to display the weather and time information.

System Requirements Operating System Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012

Server SharePoint Release 2013: - Microsoft Windows SharePoint Foundation 2013 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2013; - Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5;

SharePoint Release 2010: - Microsoft Windows SharePoint Foundation 2010 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010; - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5;

SharePoint Release 3: - Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services v3 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007; - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5; Note: This product is not compatible with SPS 2003 and WSS v2.

Browser Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher.

Installation This section describes how to install, upgrade, uninstall, or contact Support for the Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part.

Installing Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part

Before you begin, you need to make sure you have access to the server and your account must have the appropriate administrative privileges to install applications. The Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part setup program provides links to the various installation components for the calendar. To access the Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather Setup program download Virto.SharePoint.20XX.ClockAndWeather.zip file and unzip it. Run extracted Setup.exe file. The setup wizard window will appear.

Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part Setup wizard performs a system check prior to the installation. All the system checks must be completed successfully in order to proceed with the installation. After the checks have completed, click “Next”.

Check “I accept the terms in the License Agreement” and click “Next”.

Select the web application(s) where you want to install the product. Warning: You must be logged in to the SharePoint server with a Site Collection Administrator account to automatically activate this feature.

Then click “Next”.

Click “Close” to complete the installation.

Note: installation procedure is similar for SharePoint 2007, 2010 and 2013 versions.

License Activation To see full instruction for successful activation of your component, please download “Virto License Manager” PDF instruction from Downloads section of our site or read it in Wiki.

Upgrading Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part If you already use Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather Web Part and need to upgrade it to the latest version, download the.zip file from http://www.virtosoftware.com. Unzip the file and run setup.exe as it is described in the Installing Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather Web Part section. Note: it is highly recommended to exit License Manager before upgrading. If you need to use License Manager, run it after upgrading. On the step 3 you will see the window as follows.

Check the box “Upgrade” and click “Next”.

Note: if you had activated the license while installing the previous Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather version, you do not need to activate it now.

Uninstalling Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part To uninstall the Web Part:

1. Double click the Setup.exe extracted from downloaded Virto.SharePoint.20XX.ClockAndWeather.zip file.

2. The program performs the system checks again. Once that has successfully completed, the program prompts you to Repair or Remove the solution. Select Remove, and click “Next”.

Administration and Usage

Adding the Web Part to a Page

Go to SharePoint site where you want to add the web part and open “Edit - Edit page”.

You will switch to edit mode. Click “Add a Web Part”.

Select Virto Clock and Weather Web Part at the bottom of the list and click “Add”.

Once you have clicked “Add” button, use “Exit edit mode” button.

Note: if you want to display both weather and time on your site, you must add two web parts and adjust each of

them according to required view.

SharePoint Clock and Weather Web Part Administration

Once you have added Virto SharePoint Clock and Weather web part to the site page, you have to adjust

its view. Click “Edit” button in the upper right corner of the web part block and select “Edit Web Part” in

the displayed menu.

The web part settings block will be displayed on the right.

Location Data

Type your location data in the search string and click “Search”.

Once the list of available zones is uploaded, select the required zone from the list and click “Add”. You

can add more than one zone.

Added zone will appear. If you want to display the temperature for the selected location, check the required

temperature scale (Celsius or Fahrenheit) or both of them.

You can define special name for selected place, for example, define the name of office in the selected city.

Date and Time Format

Select the required date/time format from the list.

Weather Forecast Picture

To display the weather picture, check the box “Show Weather” in the settings block.

Check the boxes opposite “C” and/or “F” to show temperature in Celsius and/or Fahrenheit.

Three options of orientation are available (Horizontal, Vertical and Vertical 1 Line). Select one of them.

You can also define weather image height in pixels (in advanced settings block).

Note: remember, when you check the box “Show Weather”, clock settings are disabled. If you want to add both

clock and weather to the site page, add one more Clock & Weather web part to the site page (see the previous

section).

Location Display

Check the box “Show Country/Province” if you need to display the location. Select the orientation. If you select

vertical orientation, the information will be displayed as follows:

Autolocation Display

Virto SharePoint Clock & Weather web part allows users to add autolocation to the list of displayed location. This

means that system will define current location of a user by IP address and add will show weather/time for it. To

add autolocation, go to web part settings and click “Add autolocation”. Your IP address will be defined and

autolocation will be added. Click “OK” to save the settings.

Now users will see time/weather of auto defined location.

Advanced Settings (only Pro version)

Text and Background Color

Use advanced Virto SharePoint Clock and Weather settings to define a color of background and text. Select a

special color for the text and background displayed in your web part.

Custom Color and Non-Working Time (Pro)

If you use Pro version, you can use custom colors both for text and background. Use RGB color format to define a

color for the web part.

Users of Pro version can select special color for non-working time. For example, you can select grey color for non-

working time. This may help you to see where it is working time and where the non-working time is at the

moment.

Select the color for non-working time and define start and end time of work.

When it is non-working time, the web part will be highlighted with a selected non-working time color (grey color

on the screen).

3 to 5 Days Weather Forecast (Pro)

If you use Pro version, you can adjust weather forecast picture to display more than one day forecast. Select

required period in the dropdown and apply the settings.

You can also define weather image height in pixels (in advanced settings block).

Themes

Simple Themes

You can choose another theme for your web part. Select one from the list of available themes.

For example, use “Web 2.0 Blue” theme:

Check the box “Digital clock” to use digital view of your clock. In this case the clock will look as follows:

If you check the box “Choose Theme of the Week”, the theme of your web part will be changed automatically

every two weeks.

You also have an ability to use custom themes for clock view. In this case you should use CSS styles and define css

classes for arrows view (theme0Sec, theme0Min and theme0Hour) and clock design.

For example:

Check the box “Custom Theme” in the settings block and paste the code. Then click “Apply”.

Note: themes may be shown in different way if current version of your browser is not supported.

You can check the box “Show debug information” to display debug information in the web part.

Once you have adjusted the web part, click “OK” to apply all the settings for your web part. Or use “Apply” and

continue adjustment.

The view of your web part can be changed at any time you want.
