The Pastor’s Perspective
Monday morning I got up, did my devotion, fixed my breakfast, and started getting ready to come into the office. My plan was to get in early and have some time to read before beginning my daily Monday routine. As I was brushing my teeth I noticed that my beard needed to be trimmed. I had noticed the beard needed trimming several times in the past week but was too lazy or busy to do it. Now, with plenty of time, I decided to take care of this matter. I took out my trusty beard trimmer and set it to number 3. Setting number 2 makes the beard too short and setting num-ber 4 makes it too long. Setting number 3 is the optimal setting for my taste. I ran the trimmer across the right side of my face, only then realizing I had forgotten to put the end piece on the trimmer that holds the blade at the chosen set-ting. A three inch long path along the right side of my face had been trimmed to the skin. At that point I was pretty much committed. The beard was coming off whether I wanted it to or not. Things like that happen when we are tired or distracted. I was reminded by this experience that small mistakes can have big consequences. My momentary lapse in concentra-tion changed my appearance, made me late for work, and made my face the subject of multiple questions. (Oh, when did you shave your beard? Why did you shave your beard? Is something about you different?) Yup, mistakes have consequences. Not long ago I was reading an article on church leadership. One of the things this article mentioned was that church leaders should not be afraid to make mistakes. Those who never make mistakes are playing it too safe and can never hope to really accomplish things. We all make mistakes. The only ones who do not are those who are not really alive. I have to admit that I’m overly sensitive about making mistakes. I hate it when I screw up. But I know that if I’m go-ing to be the person God called me to me, I have to venture out and take risks. I can’t play it safe all the time. So my message this month is two-fold: Be careful. Especially when you are holding a razor in your hand. But don’t be so careful that you are not willing to take risks for the sake of the kingdom.
Our Mission
To provide a loving, friendly, family atmosphere, where
people can meet and serve Christ, community y and one another.
Special Thanks to Pastor Bart, the Deacon Board, and the congregation for the wonderful celebration
of Preschool Recognition Sunday and the reception afterward. We had a great turnout and the preschool staff and I felt wonderfully appreciated.
Our staff was also honored by our wonderful preschool parents during Teacher Appreciation Week at the beginning of May. May brought lots of fun things to Virginia Hills Baptist Church Preschool. We had a fun-filled Field Day put on by Ms. Sirena and Ms. Ofa. The weather held out for all of our End of Year Pic-nics and we had a terrific End of year Program with “A Tropical Summer” theme and graduated all of our Pre-K and Jr. Kindergarten classes.
We are looking forward to some “Under the Sea” at our two-week Summer Camp with almost 65 children attending. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and hope everyone has a won-derful summer!

Our best wishes to two very special people: to our very talented accompanist, Andy Mil-ler, and his fiance, Laura Chandler, also a very talented musician who is with the Fairfax County Public Schools. They will be getting married on June 23. We are very happy for them, and congratulate them! May God bless you richly.
Congratulations to Austin Aaron, Teddi Beschel, Devin Morrow, and Ben Purdy who are graduating from high school this month. We wish them the best as they continue their Education.
At this time, we especially recognize Ms. Ruth Emswiler, who has been a faithful member of our church for a very long time. She is a very special person whom we all know and love and regard as a kind, loving person. In May, she celebrated her 90th birthday! Congratulations!! “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV_ Submitted by Barbara Gambrill
