Automatic Vehicle Locator Program
vdotplows.org
• VDOT NOVA has an AVL program to better monitor plow truck activities.
• Over 2,500 vendors have enrolled over 4,000 pieces of equipment in the program.

Automatic Vehicle Locator
Advantages of the AVL program: • VDOT is able to locate which plow truck is
closest to respond to a problem or emergency for faster service
• VDOT will be able to more quickly determine whether a plow has been on a road/street
• VDOT will be able to accurately and quickly research questions related to vendor performance
• Greater efficiency & reduced costs • “Problems areas” can be quickly identified

HOW CITIZENS CAN HELP!
• Do not pass snow plow trucks when they are plowing
• Allow plow trucks back into main lane from turn lanes
• Stay at least 100 ft. behind a plow truck • Do you have windshield washer fluid? • Do you have ½ tank of gas? • Are your tires suited for winter weather? • Do you have medicine/food/water? • Don’t forget to bring your patience and
humor! • “HELP US………….. HELP YOU!”
