At about 0840 hours, he arrived at the store where his co-workers Shamsher Alam and Pramod Yadav were already present. Pramod Yadav left the store about half an hour later. Soon after, a boy with his face covered with a handkerchief, came inside the store. He threatened the complainant with a pistol and demanded money.  According to the complainant, the assailant seemed to know where the cash was being kept. The assailant robbed about Rs. 80,000 before running away.

Further interrogation and verification of former employees of the store led the police team to suspect one Sudhakar Saroj (he had left the store about two months ago). It was also found that both Shamsher Alam and Sudhakar Saroj were in regular touch with each other.

Shamsher Alam broke down under sustained interrogation and admitted to his involvement in the crime. Rs. 10,000/- were recovered from his possession, which according to him had been given to him by Sudhakar Saroj for providing information about the cash in the store.
