Apologies
...once again from me, your Editor as I missed some of your birthdays for April and May. I know its now late, but I hope you all had HAPPY BIRTHDAYS! The Editor
Happy Birthday Happy Birthday for April...for April...
Message from the Editor / Membership Officer...Message from the Editor / Membership Officer... I am back from attending the 2014 National Bug-In in Victoria over the Easter weekend, and the events ‘Road Trip’ through to Anzac Day. This was part of my 5-6 week trip across the Nullabor, camping in my 1983 Kombi and enjoying the life on the road.
Unfortunately that has meant the May magazine being amalgamated with Junes for this May-June magazine and it being a little late as I get back into my routine with club matters. This also affected our new members, which I have contacted individually. I am catching up with your applications, processing payments and getting your “new member-ship packages” out.
Thank you everybody for your patience.

Volkswagen Club of Western Australia (Inc) 1955 - 2015...our 60th Anniversary is coming!
Dear Members, as the financial year comes to an end us committee members start to get
busy. Memberships are due with renewals to go out, the Annual General Meeting is only around
the corner and plans for this year’s Day of the Volkswagen are beginning. Also, year next year is our club’s
60th Anniversary. The following year is our turn to host the National Bug In. On top of that we have monthly
runs planned not just for this year but dates are being locked in for next year too. I say it a lot and I’ll contin-
ue to – it is so rewarding when you turn up to these events. I personally love meeting and chatting to new
people especially those with a shared interest.
Alfreds was huge this month. If you don’t know what I am talking about when I say Alfreds, we have been
meeting there (Alfreds Kitchen, Guildford road in Guildford) on the evening of the first Wednesday of every
month for nearly 5 years and each and every month we have a great crowd.
Fairbridge Festival this year was massive too, a huge thanks to Kim and Woody Shurman for allowing us the
privilege of having “Volksville” special camping area near to all the action of the festival. The club tent really
was a focal point especially sheltering from the rain.
Then there was the recent York trip with 35 people camping over (full report in next month’s mag).
So members thank you for making this a rewarding position that I have held now for a few years. Please
come along to the AGM to have your vote, maybe put your hand up for one of the roles on the committee or
just come for the tea and biscuits and listen to the reports.
The forum is there for you to have your say and give direct feedback or simply to see what everyone is up to.
There are build threads, event chat and reports, a classified section, spotted, and plenty of pictures of mem-
ber’s rides or projects.
Have fun be safe on the roads.

1955 was a milestone for Volkswagen in more ways than one. It was the year that the millionth VW
Beetle was produced and it coincided with the formation of our Volkswagen Club of Western Aus-
tralia (Inc). Next year will see the club celebrate it’s 60th year, making it one of the oldest “name” car
clubs in Australia.
Your club committee has commenced making preparations for the year of celebrations and to include
you, our members, we start with running a LOGO competition and we are looking for your ideas/
suggestions (e.g. events, merchandise etc) to help make the 60th year a memorable one.
The committee is looking for a LOGO to identify and acknowledge THE CLUB and also the 60 YEARS.
Sometimes the simplest is the best...you can produce a complete logo or provide a sketch or even just a
concept.
The winning logo design/concept will be decided by the club committee and become the property of the
club. The winner will receive a $60 voucher to spend on club merchandise...this can be used on current
stock or maybe on new 60th Anniversary items.
Entries can be sent to our PO BOX addressed as “60 Years Logo” or emailed here to
[email protected] with a subject matter of “60 Years Logo”...entries close last mail
received on 18th July 2014.
At the top of the page is the club’s official logo...below are the current 3D logo, the 50th Anniversary of
VW in Australia (2003) and the club’s 50th Anniversary logo (2005)...these may help you with an idea.

Whiteman Park: 27th April
Well the day started off bad, I
got up an hour earlier than I
needed, half way to the park I
realized I'd forgotten my cam-
era, surely it couldn't get much
worse.
I met some great vee-dub
guys, talked the talk.
Our small but great stand was
VERY busy, even though we
were tucked out of the way.
Some of the Mini guys even
came over and said they
missed us!
The weather wasn't brilliant, we
did get wet, but we still smiled.
We enjoyed a really good day
of chatting and cars!

BUG-IN 2014 GEELONG, VICTORIA
There were five West Aussies at-
tending this year, Ray Willis and
Merrick and Karla Paget, who
drove over, and Pete and Trish
Summerfield, who flew over.
Trish and I arrived in Geelong on
Thursday afternoon with fellow
Bugginners, Wayne and Elaine
Ferguson from Brisbane. We were
unable to book into the Bug-In
caravan park, so we booked into
a park not far away. As the Bug-
In didn’t start until three o/clock
on Friday afternoon, we decided
to go on a sightseeing trip down
the coast along the Great Ocean
Road to Lorne. A very pleasant
drive.
We arrived back at our cabin to
the arrival of another Bugginner
who was staying with us, Mal
Dodd from South Australia. He
had driven over with a few oth-
ers. It was great to catch up with
him again.
After catching up with all the
news, we headed off to Geelong
Wharf area to the evenings ven-
ue. It was a seafood restaurant
over the water, looking out over
the bay. A great location! We
registered on arrival, and met up
with Ray, Merrick and Karla, and
the rest of the Bugginners. It was
great catching up with everyone,
and hearing all their news. It is
amazing how quickly time goes
when you are
having fun! In
what seemed
no time, food
was served,
and everyone
agreed, the
seafood dishes
were superb.
What a great
venue; great
location, great
views, great
food, and
great people!
You couldn’t
ask for more.
After we had finished eating,
Gary and Lesley Collis, our hosts,
welcomed us, and gave us the
itinerary for the weekend. There
were several selections over the
weekend, which would hopefully
keep everyone happy. All too
soon the evening came to a
close, and everyone made their
way home.
Saturday was overcast and
windy, but, dry, which was good
for the car show. It was being
held on a grassed area at the wa-
ter front, again a picturesque
venue. It also had cafes and eat-
eries next door, and for the la-
dies, the shops and the main
streets were within walking dis-
tance. There were the usual Bug-
In entrants in the car show, and
some unusual local entrants.
There were about twenty five en-
trants, and all were well present-
ed, including Ray’s and Merrick
and Karla’s Kombi’s.

After lunch, the choice was a boat
trip on the bay, or a go-cart ses-
sion. Most went on the sedate
boat trip, however the revheads
opted for the go-carts. Karla
came to the go-carts as an ob-
server, while Merrick, Mal,
Wayne, Gary, and I, all went for a
ride.
It is amazing how aggressive you
get when you get behind the
wheel of a go-cart. I knew Mal,
Gary and Wayne were forces to
be reckoned with. But, not having
seen Merrick drive in competition,
he really has got the killer in-
stinct, and boy, watch out if you
are in his way!!
There were some good tussles in
the twenty five laps, with Wayne
and Gary very close. Merrick and
I had a few altercations as who
had right of way, as we all did,
but all came away with big smiles
on our faces. A great afternoon!
The boat trip was successful, and
all who went on the cruise were
pleased with what they saw.
Once we were all back, a quick
clean up, and it was off to the
local RSL Club nearby to enjoy a
nice meal, and brag about the
activities during the day; car
show verses go-carts.
The camaraderie within the Bug-
ginners is second to none, and
the banter and jokes just flowed
all night. A great night was had
by all.
Sunday was an early start for the
motorkhana participants, and
again Geelong put on a very
pleasant sunny day with a light
wind. Perfect conditions for a mo-
torkhana. We proceeded to the
Geelong Motorsport Complex,
(which is next door to the Avalon
Airport), booked in and filled in all
the paper work. Then with ten
entrants, we started. We were all
a bit tentative to start with as the
surface was very smooth and a
little slippery. However, the more
events we completed the more
confident we became and the
quicker we got. We competed in
six events and we all had a good
fun. Some hit flags and went the
wrong way, but in the end we all
had big smiles on our faces.
A bbq lunch was served, thanks
to Gary Collis, and then it was the
start of the autocross. There were
seven entrants in this event in
three cars. Mal, Wayne and I
used Mal’s Beetle, so the poor car
didn’t stop all day! As soon as
one of us finished a run, the next
one would jump in and do a cir-

end, and the consensus was eve-

when this went to press…
While we were enjoying ourselves
on the track, the others went on
a steam train ride, and a sight-
seeing tour around Geelong.
Trish, Ray, Merrick and Karla en-
joyed this part of the Bug-In.
So it was back to the caravan
park to get cleaned up ready for
the presentation dinner held at a
German restaurant.
Beersteins, and umpapa music
created the mood for a great
night full hilarity and merriment.
And that is exactly what hap-
pened. Everyone joined in, and
the place was full of laughter,
singing and dancing.

After a beautiful meal of soups,
suckling pig and roast vegetables,
followed by sweets, it was time to
present trophies.
South Australia won the tro-
phy for the club with the
“Best Bug-In Spirit”; Wayne
Ferguson (Qld) fastest go-
cart, Maris (SA) best in Car
Show; and the motorkhana,
1st Mal Dodd (SA), 2nd Pete
Summerfield (WA), 3rd Tim
Hosie (Vic), 4th Henny
Southam (SA).
The final official part of the night
was the ‘hand over’ of the Bug-In
flag to next year’s host - Queens-
land. This was accepted by
Wayne Ferguson on behalf of
the Volkswagen Drivers Club
of Queensland
The following day was time to say
goodbyes to most and this was at
a BBQ breakfast held in the cara-
van park. Some of us were going
home while others were going
onto the Bug-In Road Trip for an-
other 4 days.
A huge thankyou to
Gary and Lesley Collis for putting a great
Bug-In together almost single handed, and ap-
plaud their effort.
A job well done!
The camaraderie shown at Bug-
In’s is infectious, and is some-
thing you go back for year after
year. As usual, we all enjoyed
ourselves and are looking forward
to next year when the Bug-In is
in Brisbane.

Golf GTI
Performance arrives in Australia
Golf GTI Performance launches
with new front differential lock,
upgraded brakes and additional
standard features
The Golf GTI line-up in Australia
is now complemented by a new,
heightened performance model.
Adding to the seventh generation
Golf GTI’s impressive list of per-
formance and comfort-based fea-
tures, the Golf GTI Perfor-
mance comes standard with
unique visual and technical
equipment, setting it apart from
the standard version.
Extended performance features.
On its exterior, the Golf GTI Per-
formance differs from the stand-
ard GTI by its GTI logo on the
front brake calipers. The brake
package for the GTI Performance
has been upgraded along with
the increased engine output
(169kW), the ventilated brakes
discs are 28mm larger at
340mm, while the rear discs are
now also ventilated and 10mm
larger at 310mm in diameter.
Technical features of the Golf GTI
Performance also include a newly
developed front differential lock.
Front differential lock. A newly
engineered electronically con-
trolled mechanical front differen-
tial lock is being used exclusively
in the Golf GTI Performance. To
date, Volkswagen is the only car-
maker to utilize an electronically
controlled differential lock in a
front-wheel drive production
model. Compared to purely me-
chanical locks, the front differen-
tial lock integrated in the Golf
GTI Performance has a variable
degree of locking and compre-
hensive interfaces to ESP, EDL
and XDL functions. This makes it
possible to avoid negative effects
on steering handling or steering
precision that otherwise occurs
with mechanical locks. As a re-
sult, the system realises the full
potential and maximum perfor-
mance of a differential lock with
regard to vehicle dynamics, en-
suring comfort is not impaired.
Additional standard features.
Adding a higher level of specifica-
tion above the standard Golf GTI,
the GTI Performance comes ex-
clusively with a six-speed DSG
transmission, and is instantly
recognizable with a range of lux-
ury and convenience features as
standard. Bi-Xenon headlights,
dark tinted LED tail lights, tinted
glass and 19-inch “Santiago” al-
loy wheels give the GTI Perfor-
mance’s exterior a sporty look,
while the GTI Performance’s inte-
rior receives sports seats featur-
ing the newly designed “Clark”
tartan, with the addition of race-
style Alcantara trim on the head
rest and side bolsters, completing
the nod to over 35 years of GTI
history.

search for most on the site; put
simply, the reviews which create
the most interest among the
website’s users are the winners.
The data to measure this is taken
from Google Analytics and calcu-
lates the number of page views
each review has had over the 12
months from April 2013 to April

The seventh-generation
Volkswagen Golf was launched in
the UK in January 2013 and since
then has claimed a raft of top ac-

Its popularity is due in large part
to its key values of safety, quali-

Golf R Arrives in Australia
High-performance Golf with

makes its debut with a new
4MOTION all-wheel drive sys-
tem and progressive steering
Volkswagen Australia completes
its market introduction of the new
Golf range with the fastest Golf
ever. The fourth generation Golf R
arrives in Australia with greater
performance, more innovative
technology and a higher level of
standard equipment than ever
before.
206kW TSI engine
Like the current Golf GTI, the Golf
R is powered by further advanced
engine design of the four-cylinder
EA888 series, which in this latest
iteration, receives modifications
to enhance power output and fuel
economy, similar to a develop-
ment programme of a motorsport
engine.
Compared to the 162kW GTI en-
gine, the following components of
the 206 kW engine were modified
or completely redesigned: the cyl-
inder head (together with exhaust
valves, valve seats and springs),
pistons, high-pressure injection
valves as well as the turbo-
charger. These modifications,
coupled with a host of advanced
driving technologies, lifts the Golf
R to new levels of excitement.
4MOTION all-wheel drive
Now a legendary feature in the
Golf R, the latest generation 4MO-
TION system is coupled with a six
-speed gearbox that has a rein-
forced clutch and short-travel
shifting. Further perfected by en-
hancements such as the Haldex 5
coupling, activated even before
any wheel starts to slip, eliminat-
ing nearly all traction loss. When
operating under a relatively low
load or when coasting, forward
propulsion comes primarily from
the front axle, and the rear axle is
decoupled. This basic drive layout
saves fuel. However, the rear axle
of the Golf R can be variably en-
gaged in fractions of a second
whenever necessary. This is done
via a Haldex coupling, which is
activated by an electro-hydraulic
oil pump.
XDL makes tracking in bends
more precise
The Golf R is equipped with XDL
at the front and rear axles. This
extended attribute, part of the
electronic differential lock, brakes
the wheels on the inside of a bend
during fast driving through bends,
optimising steering behaviour. In
the latest version of this technolo-
gy, known as XDL, this functional-
ity is applied to a larger range of
dynamic performance – making
the vehicle more agile even when
the car is not in accelerating.
When the car is being driven fast,
as soon as the electronics detect
excessively light loads on wheels
on the inside of a bend, the hy-
draulics of Electronic Stabilisation

Driving Profi le Selector with Race
mode
The Driving Profile Selector is a
new feature of the Golf R, a
standard component of the adap-
tive chassis control fitted to the
hot Golf. Five programmes are
available: “Eco”, “Normal”,
“Individual”, “Comfort” and the
special “Race” mode especially
tailored to the Golf R. In “Race
mode”, damping is increased and
engine response and shift points
of the (optional) DSG are config-
ured to be even more dynamic.
ESP Sport
In keeping with the Golf R’s per-
formance heritage, the new Golf R
is equipped with the “ESP Sport”
function as standard. The system
is activated by a
two-stage
switch on the
centre console.
When the driver
presses this
switch brief ly,
Electronic Stabi-
lisation Program
(ESP) switches
to the “ESP
Sport” mode. In
very fast driving
with lots of
bends – such as
on a race track – the ESP system
reacts with a delay, which enables
even more agile handling proper-
ties. When the ESP button is
pressed for longer than three sec-
onds, the system is fully deac-
tivated for professional driving on
a race track – this deactivation is
only available in the Golf R and
not in any other models of the
Golf series.
Golf R makes a statement
On top of its enhanced perfor-
mance, as the flagship model in
the Golf range, the Golf R is dis-
tinguished by multiple visual de-
sign cues. From the matte chrome
mirrors to the motorsport-inspired
19-inch ‘Cadiz’ wheels on the
car’s muscular exterior, to the
customised sports seats with ‘R’
badging and pedals in brushed
aluminium, the Golf R sets new
standards for not only the Golf
range, but for other performance
cars, too.

VolkswagenVolkswagen
06 April 2014
Volkswagen claimed a hard-
fought win at the toughest rally of
the year. In difficult, variable con-
ditions, defending champions
Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia
(F/F) secured the fourth victory of
the 2014 FIA World Rally Champi-
onship for the Polo R WRC – the
eighth in a row for Volkswagen
including the events at the end of
last season. The duo’s 19th tri-
umph was far from a walk in the
park – the Rally Portugal featured
three different manufacturers on
the podium, duels that came
down to tenths of a second, and
three different leaders over the
course of the rally. The
Volkswagen pairing of Andreas
Mikkelsen/Mikko Markkula (N/
FIN) ended the rally fourth over-
all. Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka
Anttila (FIN/FIN) fought back af-
ter a crash on Friday. In doing so,
they picked up valuable points in
the Manufacturers’ Championship
and finished runner-up behind
Sébastien Ogier on the closing
Power Stage, on which bonus
points were up for grabs for the
fastest three drivers.
“The Rally Portugal was just as
we expected – difficult for the
team and drivers, but ultimately
successful,” said a delighted Dr.
Heinz-Jakob Neußer, Volkswagen
Board Member for Technical De-
velopment. “Our duo of Ogier/
Ingrassia once again showed their
class in difficult conditions. But
the team also did another fantas-
tic job. The way they managed to
get Jari-Matti Latvala’s back up
and running within the allotted
time after his crash was mighty
impressive. Another reason this
trip to Portugal has been so
worthwhile for me is that it is
great to experience the enthusi-
asm of the many fans lining the
route and cheering our drivers on
so magnificently.”
From Australia to Portugal – a
winning run to go down in WRC
history.
Victory for Sébastien Ogier/Julien
Ingrassia marked the eighth con-
secutive triumph for the Polo R
WRC. This sees Volkswagen equal
the longest winning run in the
history of the World Rally Cham-
pionship. The team won in Aus-
tralia, France, Spain and Great
Britain in 2013, and has since
added victories in Monte Carlo,
Sweden, Mexico and Portugal this
season. The record was previous-
ly held by WRC rival Citroën, who
achieved the same feat in 2011.

Anniversaries and celebratory ari-
as: the numbers behind the victo-
ry in Portugal
Volkswagen celebrated another
milestone in the history of the Po-
lo R WRC at the Rally Portugal.
The 315-hp four wheel-drive pow-
erhouse contested its 300th spe-
cial stage on Friday. Just as it had
on its previous anniversaries –
50, 100, 150 and 250 – the Polo
R WRC celebrated its latest
achievement with another stage
win. Seven special stages later it
had brought up another mile-
stone: the 200th stage win since
making its debut in 2013. By the
end of the Rally Portugal,
Volkswagen had won 204 of the
312 special stages it has contest-
ed since the start of last season –
a success rate of 65 per cent. Of
850 possible top-three times, 459
have gone to the Polo R WRC.
Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia’s
victory marked the 24th podium
and 14th win in 17 rallies since
2013 for Volkswagen.

Top three places in the champion-

Ogier leads ahead of Latvala and
Mikkelsen
It was nothing less than
Volkswagen’s greatest single vic-
tory in the history of the FIA
World Rally Championship (WRC).
In extremely difficult external
conditions, Jari-Matti Latvala/
Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and
Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia
(F/F) celebrated a hard-fought
one-two victory in the Polo R WRC
at the Rally Argentina. Andreas
Mikkelsen/Mikko Markkula (N/
FIN) completed the German facto-
ry team’s triumph by claiming
fourth place. Crowds of enthusias-
tic fans lined the route of SS 14,
holding their breath as Latvala
and Ogier repeatedly fought it out
to win the fifth round of the sea-
son. Mikkelsen also helped to
make the event a resounding suc-
cess for Volkswagen by doggedly
working his way up the leader
board. Taking first and second
place further extends
Volkswagen’s lead in the Manu-
facturers’ Championship. Follow-
ing the Rally Argentina, the three
Volkswagen duos are now also at
the top of the table in the Drivers’
and Co-Drivers’ Championship.
The event marked Jari-Matti Lat-
vala’s tenth win in the World Rally
Championship and his third in
Volkswagen’s colours.
Latvala vs. Ogier, Ogier vs. Lat-
vala – a duel to win the rally, a
duel for the WRC crown
Right from the word go, specta-
tors were treated to a thrilling du-
el for first place in Argentina –
despite punishing external condi-
tions. The current World Champi-
ons, Sébastien Ogier and Julien
Ingrassia, got off to the better
start, claiming the first two Spe-
cial Stages. Then Jari-Matti Lat-
vala and Miikka Anttila launched
their counterattack during the
rally’s longest stage. The pair
took the overall lead by putting in
the best time on the “Ascochinga–
Agua de Oro” section, which is
almost 52 kilometres long. Before
the first day’s rallying had fin-
ished, first place changed hands
twice more between Latvala and
Ogier. Latvala dominated on Sat-
urday and Sunday, gaining the
upper hand in the duel with eight
wins to Ogier’s one over the two
days. Following five of the sea-
son’s 13 rallies, the battle be-
tween Ogier and Latvala is also
dominating the battle for the WRC
title. With his win, Latvala closed

the gap in the World Champion-
ship standings to 24 points.
The backbone of the team:
Volkswagen’s service mechanics
are the key to success
The Rally Argentina is not just a
WRC classic – it also has a repu-
tation for being the toughest test
of both man and machine. In
2014, heavy rain and storms in
the weeks leading up to the event
meant the tracks were badly
eroded and very rough. Countless
cross-ditches and deep potholes
put all of the teams’ World Rally
Cars to the test. However, the
Volkswagen drivers’ equipment
remained in great shape through-
out the competition, thanks to the
team’s service crews.
Volkswagen’s experienced me-
chanics used the three services
on each day of the rally – one in
the morning (15 minutes), one at
lunchtime (30 minutes) and one
in the evening (45 minutes) – to
make sure the three Polo R WRCs
were always ready to face the
forthcoming stages.
Team successes, winning streaks
and milestones: facts and figures
from Argentina
By claiming first, second and
fourth place in Argentina,
Volkswagen celebrated its great-
est success to date in a single
round of the WRC. This win there-
by replaces the team’s previous
milestone at the Rally Great Brit-
ain in November 2013, when the
three Volkswagen pairings se-
cured first, second and fifth place.
As well as claiming impressive
positions, the team did it in style.
The Rally Argentina is made up of
14 Special Stages covering a total
of 405.10 kilometres. Ogier, Lat-
vala and Mikkelsen set the best
time on ten of them, finished sec-
ond eleven times, and took third
place on ten stages. This meant
that Volkswagen claimed 31 of
the 42 possible top three times.
With this performance, Argentina
remains the most successful mo-
torsport host country for
Volkswagen. In 2005, Volkswagen
bagged its first overall victory for
the Volkswagen Race Touareg at
the Rallye por las Pampas. Then
in 2009, 2010 and 2011, the
make celebrated three marathon
wins at the legendary Dakar Rally
with Giniel de Villiers, Carlos
Sainz and Nasser Al-Attiyah at the
wheel.
Jari-Matti Latvala’s victory at the
Rally Argentina in 2014 also saw
the team continue a winning
streak in the FIA World Rally
Championship (WRC) which start-
ed last season: Volkswagen has
now taken the top spot nine times
in a row. The marque finished the
2013 season with wins in Austral-
ia, France, Spain and the UK. It
has followed this with success in
Monte Carlo, Sweden, Mexico,
Portugal and Argentina so far in
2014.
This means that Volkswagen re-
mains unbeaten to date in 2014
and is celebrating its third double
victory in the space of five rallies
and its fifth overall.

FIA Formula 3 European Championship
Win number three of the season: Blomqvist triumphs in Budapest Tom Blomqvist (GB) claimed his third victory of the season on the fourth race weekend of the FIA Formula 3 Europe-an Championship at the Hungaroring (H). The son of former World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist got off to a flyer in race one and led from start to finish. The young Brit, who is “powered by Volkswagen”, also finished in the top ten in the remaining two races of the weekend to strengthen his grip on second place in the overall standings in the Formula 3 European Champion-ship. Max Verstappen (NL) narrowly missed out on a podium, coming home fourth in race three, which was brought to an early close due to the onset of rain. A further six Volkswagen drivers claimed top-ten finishes in Hungary: Jordan King (GB), Jules Szymkowiak (NL), Sean Gelæl (RI), Antonio Gio-vinazzi (I), Gustavo Menez (USA) and Jake Dennis (GB).
Volkswagen Polo-Cup India
Matharoo wins season-opener in Coimbatore Angad Singh Matharoo (IND) took an early overall lead in this year’s Volkswagen Polo-Cup India. The 25-year-old from Chandigarh (IND) won the opening race at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore (IND) and finished runner-up behind Bonnie Thomas (IND) in race two. Matharoo, who finished third overall in last sea-son’s Volkswagen Polo-Cup, benefit-ted from a breach of the rules in race one by would-be winner Karminder Pal Singh (IND), who was adjudged to have overtaken during a yellow flag phase on lap ten of an eventful race and was subsequently handed a 30-second penalty by the stewards. Sev-eral collisions occurred shortly after the start, resulting in the race being inter-rupted. In race two, rookie Thomas was the man to beat. This was also the first triumph by a Golf GTI this year. Rookie Lucas Orrock (GB) fin-ished runner-up, ahead of the young-est driver in the series Sam Morgan (GB). ADAC GT Masters

The duo with Van der Linde, who is just 17 years of age and champion of the 2013 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup, secured second place in their Audi R8. After eight of 16 rac-es, Van der Linde/Rast can claim to be the unofficial “mid-season champions” of the ADAC GT Masters after their second place saw the Audi drivers take the lead in the table at the end of the
first half of the season. The high-flyers of the weekend were Oliver Gavin (GB) and Daniel Keilwitz (D) in their Corvette for the Callaway Competition team. They won both races. In the first race the duo even celebrated a flaw-less start-finish victory ahead of Albert von Thurn and Taxis (D) and Tomas Enge (CZ) in the Chevrolet.

Volkswagen Castrol Cup
Wins for Kupcikas and Kruger Robertas Kupcikas (LT) and Jeffrey Kruger (ZA) also prevented a first win of a Polish driver this year at the third race weekend of the Volkswagen Castrol Cup Poland. Lithuania's Kup-cikas overtook Jan Kisiel (PL), who started the race in pole position, just after the start during the first race in Poznan, Poland. Kupcikas defended his lead as the entire field were forced
to change to wet tyres after seven laps due to a shower and he clinched his third victory of the season ahead of Kisiel. Gosia Rdest (PL) finished in a strong sixth place as the fastest wom-en in the field. In the second race, the South African Kruger recorded his first victory in the Volkswagen Castrol Cup. He certainly profited from a drive-through penalty given to Kisiel, who once again started the race in pole position, but made a false start. Kup-cikas finished in third place behind Marcus Fluch (S). The Lithuanian driv-er Kupcikas tops the overall classifica-tion with 220 points after six out of fourteen races ahead of Fluch on 194 points.
