Myhomemade tablesawis 600mmwideand600mmdeeThe saw's frame is made of30 mmthick birchplywood. It'swheelsso it'seasyto move. I canpushitunder myworkben

The rip fence is made of50 mmsteel tubing with the sliding

surface made of Corian.

The table hasa miterslotforaccessorieslike cross cuttingsleds.

The bladecanbe raisedand loweredbyturning a screwonfront. I usea cordless drill to raise and lowerthe blade.

Tilting of the saw is locked with the screwinthe lowercurveslot. There isnohandle. I usuallyliftupthe topto tiltthe saw

The blademustbe fullyloweredwhenopeningorclosing thsawwhenit's tilted!

The arbourandmotorare installedona U-shapedcradle.Twholecradle tilts to setdifferentbladeangles.

The plate thatmounts the motorandarbour canbe tiltedarounda shaftwith twopairs of bearings.Theplate (red) ismade of 10mmthick steel. Thearbourbearingsare installeona woodenblockto raisethemupfurtherto getthe arbou

closer to the table. Themotoris a 3-phasemotordrivenwitinverter.

A sliding blockunder the motor ismovedbythe depthadjustmentscrew.This tilts themotorassemblyupand dowadjustthe depthof cut.

Herethe saw is inits down position. The spindle ismade fro20mmshaft, a flangeis weldedand turnedto the end, theblade is lockedonto itwith a screw.

The arbour isperhaps the mostimportant componentof susaws. It's made froma 20mmsteel rod.I have a verygoodfriendwho hasa metal lathe,and itwasmade byhim. Wetogetheroften, I canhelphimwithdesign,and anotherfrienourshasa goodgarageforwelding etc...Butanysmall

machineshopcanhelp, ittakes onlya shorttime to turn, weandturn.

I used 20mmrod becauseitfits right inthe cheap bearingsthere isno need to machine the mainshaft. I canbuythis rolocally inshortlengths.The bearings have lockingscrewstoclamptothe shaft.

A 40 mmsteel diskwith a 20 mmhole is weldedonthe endthe shaftThenitis turnedonmetal lathe onall surfaces. Arecess of30mmis turnedto fitthe blade (the holeonblade30mm) toa deptha littleless thanthe blade isthick.Thenammhole isdrilled inthe endof the shaft (onthe lathe)andthreadis tapped.

A skilledmachinist suchasmyfriend ensures thatthe bladeexactlyandruns true.

Thenwemade a smalldiskof35 mmdiameterwith an8 mhole.This disk locks the bladeonto the arbourwith a screw

Itis importantkeep inmindwhichdirectionthe arbourturnsmycase itrotatescounterclockwiseasseen fromthe bladeend.Thescrewhas righthandthread, sothe rotationof thearbourwill tightenthescrew. Mysawcanbe tiltedto the lefFor righttilting saws, the bladeattachesonthe othersideoarbour,and itturnsclockwiseseenfromthatside.Counter

clockwisescrews ornuts areused forright-tilting saws.

Mymotor is installedsothatthebeltis justbehindthe bladegetmoreroomfortilting with this design.Thebeltpulleys astandardwheelswith a taperedcolletto lockonthe shaft. Taresurprisinglycheap.

When I gotmyarbour installed I fine tuned itexactlysothatbladeis parallel to themiterslotand perpendicularto thetatop.

Mostsaws use trunnions forthe blade tilt, but theseare diffto make,so I usedhinges instead.

I playedwith a computer to studythis bladetilting questionfounda combinationof hingepositionandhow farthe bladeshouldbe fromthehinge pivot.

The slotforthe blade is 6.2mmwideandaccommodatesabladetiltangles.

For sawdustremoval I made a hoodof polycarbonate. Thisconnects tomyvacuumsystemfrombehindthe saw. Itcaptures dustbetterthanmyfriend'sexpensivesaw.
