Project VEEDDw6 – Group 4
Overview and reason
Technology : A device that allows the user to immerse into the surroundings through superimposing 3d images onto reality.
Overview and reason
What it should help with : A better understanding of nation’s
historical past by juxtaposing of one’s identity today with our heritage, allows for a greater appreciation of our achievements today.
Why is it important: It is now the era of technology, in order
to build relevance to the people of today, newer and more immersive technology should be used to link the past to the present in a more effective manner.
Overview and reason
What impact should technology have? Technology should allow user to
experience literally the moment in the past.
However, it should not feel awkward or intrusive. Rather, it should be natural and informative.

Technology
Problem statement: People
Target Group : Individuals (approx ages 16-40+) who are educated, culturally aware and looking for things to do in the city during the weekends.
Problem Statement : PeopleDesign Ergonomics :
Users should understand immediately how the technology is used
Users should find the technology easy to use.
Problem statement: Activities
Goal: Value-added recreational activity.
(helps gen-Y kids to have a true appreciation of our national identity)
Activity: Customized interactive guided tours focusing on the narrative and constructive game-play
(Sample parameters: Time, Solitary/Social, Persona of tour guide, Any preferred areas within the tour)
Problem statement: Activities
Task: 1. Selection of parameters (before tour)2. Unlock stages of trail
by answering a series of MCQ that involves the constructive element (during tour)
by making decisions at “cross-roads” in the narrative feature (during tour)
3. “Post-it” reflection notes in form of “status updates” (during tour)
4. Get/suggest directions (during tours)5. Evaluation cards (after tour)
(Constructive) Charts scores and a comparison that reveals the “type” of user.
(Narrative) Life-story of guide
Problem statement: Context-Physical
Physical Context Environment may be too
warm and the road too steep to do much walking around.
Goggles complement and improve the current use of technology at Fort Siloso.
Problem statement : Context- Social and Cultural
Social Context: Option to connect with other users Other visitors of the site Personal family/friends who are not physically on site.
Technology feasibility
TR10: Augmented RealityMarkus Kähäri wants to
superimpose digital information on the real world.
By Erika JonietzBoxes appear on the phone’s
screen, highlighting known businesses and landmarks, such as the Empire State Building. The user can click one of these boxes to download information about that location from the Web. In Nokia’s mobile-augmented-reality prototype, a user can point a phone’s camera at a nearby building; the system calculates the building’s location and uses that information to identify it. Layar – AMSTERDAM, September 22nd 2009 – Today Layar announced the addition of 3D capabilities to its augmented reality browser platform. With 3D, developers can tag real-life objects with 3D text, place 3D objects in real-world space, and create multi-sensory experiences. The addition of 3D enables Layar developers to create more realistic and immersive augmented reality experiences for mobile devices. (http://layar.com/layar-reality-browser-adds-3d-to-its-platform/)

Strengths of solution
Seamless integration• Organic transition and avoids alienation of less-savvy groups
Virtual on actual• Allow users to fully immerse into the “time-warp” without losing the
connectivity with the current. Dynamic interactivity versus Static-passive
• Boundless permutations of possible scenarios• User control
• Personalization is a key component of all the activities allowing unique interpretation of site
Game-play element• Narrative and constructive features are comprehensive and
exhaustive. Social network
• Timeliness of social media integration adds-on relevance of technology that caters to contemporary needs.
Criticism of solution
Quality of dynamic information
User generated content range from the “post-it” reflections to P2P interaction
CongestionDesigned for solitary use. Extension of use may cause physical and content
clutter
The challenge is to figure out a filtering system that can help us streamline the quality and quantity of input received.
Two major areas of concern
