i am glad to be connecting with all of you through “dhortori.” At the outset, let me Thank you all for the cordial welcome extended on joining the Sesa family. in the days to come, i look forward to interacting more closely with each and everyone.

Safety is prime and we should not waver in our adherence to safety norms and compliances. The strength of our employees to stand by us has always made the Company achieve great heights.

We continue towards ramping our work in Jharkhand and Value Added Business in Amona. Sesa was proud to play a pivotal role in the launch of the Vedanta Women’s Football League and provide a platform for the talented 137 women footballers from all over goa to display their skills. ideas of our employees and the unions have always inspired us to drive our operations. i look forward to the same kind of idea generation to work better and be a strong team.

MuKHAR CHAL CHEdWA

Football is synonymous with goa, and Vedanta Sesa goa iron ore has been harnessing the passion for this sport since 1999.

We created history by launching the Vedanta Women’s Football League on November 06, 2017 with the support of the goa Football Association. The league is a boost to the prolific work already being undertaken in skill development for boys by the Sesa Football Academy, whose alumni have made goa proud by playing for the national team and in i-League matches.

At the launch event, 137 young women were drafted into six participating teams - Flaming oranje by Sporting Clube de goa, Panjim dolphins by Panjim Footballers, Cuncolim Warriors by Cuncolim union, SCC SoWS Football, goa Velha Saints by goa Velha SC and Albert’s Princesses by Albert developers Sports Club.

Chief guest at the event Mr. Manohar Parrikar, goa’s Chief Minister, said, “My hearty congratulations to Vedanta and goa Football Association for this collaboration and initiative. Together, we all need to work towards the betterment of football. i am willing to support this initiative in full measure. Let us endeavour to make this game big!”

The initiative was also hailed by former india football captain Mr. Baichung Bhutia, who added, “Vedanta has set a great example by creating a platform for women’s football. i am hopeful that other states and corporate houses get encouraged and channelise their resources in promoting this beautiful game.”

Vedanta chose a significant date to launch this empowering initiative as November 06 marked the 40th anniversary of goa’s historic victory in the National Women’s Football Championship in 1977.

The players from this legendary team were felicitated by Mr. Parrikar, Vedanta iron ore Business CEo Mr. Kishore Kumar, Women’s Football Association (1977) President Mrs. Vijaya devi Rane, and former india football team captain and Arjuna awardee Mr. Brahmanand Shankhwalkar.

in celebration of the launch, goan singing sensation Mr. Varun Carvalho set the stage on fire with a phenomenal performance of ‘Mukhar Chal Chedwa’, the Vedanta Women’s League anthem, which is now a clarion call for talented girls to rise up and take to the field.

in attendance at the launch event were CEo of Vedanta Football Project Mr. Sukhvinder Singh, President of the goa Football Association Mr. Elvis gomes, Chairman of the Women’s Committee Mrs. Juliana gurjao, 30 women players from the goa state team, as well as members and staff of Vedanta Sesa goa.

President of the Vedanta Football Project Mr. Annanya Agarwal said, “Football lies and echoes in the heart of goa. We sincerely hope to see the girls of the community create history for the state. We endeavour to create a wealth of opportunities for girls across various skilled areas of football including coaching, sports writing, analytics, commentary, physiotherapy, etc. by extending our already existing infrastructure facilities and resources at Sesa Football Academy.”

The initiative also received support from Mr. Aditi Chauhan, goalkeeper of the indian national women’s team, who pointed out, “Through this initiative, Vedanta has provided a great platform to these talented women footballers, who until now were forced to limit themselves to school and college-level matches. i hope this initiative opens more avenues for them.”

A kick off match on November 18 marked the official start of the Vedanta Women’s Football League, showcasing a marvellous display of skills and talent with Albert’s Princesses locking horns with Flaming oranje.

The league included as many as 20 exciting matches, following which Panjim dolphins and SCC SoWS went head-to-head for the debut title. The grand finale was held on December 17, 2017, a nailbiting match that ended in a draw.

The deciding tie breaker (4-3) saw Panjim Dolphins emerge as the first Vedanta Women’s Football League winners.
