It was another sold-out cel-ebration at the seventh annu-al Greater Vancouver Home

Builders’ Association’s Ovation Awards. On Saturday, April 23, 350 builders, renovators, designers and suppliers gathered at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel to honour the best of Metro Vancouver’s trendsetting housing industry.

Projects ranged from über-mod-ern to classical tradition, but the underlying theme was consistent – creativ-ity in a demanding marketplace.

The Big WinnersTop winner of the night was Naikoon

Contracting Ltd who continued their win-ning streak from the Georgies a month earlier by snagging six of the 45 awards including Custom Home Builder of the Year, Residential Renovator of the Year (Large Volume) and the prized award for Excellence in Innovation and Sustainability.

Joe Geluch, president of Naikoon Contracting, told REW.ca, “We are just so proud of our team at Naikoon for continu-ally producing top-notch products for our clients. It’s always great to be recognized and the Ovation Awards bring out the best builders in the Greater Vancouver area. Three of Adera Development Corporation’s multi-family developments – Breeze, Sail and The Shore which won in the Excellence in Building Science in

Residential Construction category – helped the company garner another Multi-Family Home Builder of the Year Award, bringing their total count for the evening to an impressive four.

My House Design/Build Team once again came on strong, also striking gold in four categories – all for their often outside-the-box renovations – including an intrigu-ing staircase in Hillside Splendor that got the nod as Best Renovated Room.

Taking home three golds at this year’s Ovations, Tavan Developments is clearly an ongoing force to be reckoned with. Best known for their high-end, exclusive custom homes, Tavan’s ability to blend modern aesthetics with Old World warmth and charm wowed the judges in three catego-ries including Best Custom Home in both the $750,000 to under $1.5 million and $1.5 to under $3 million categories.

Single-family Home Builder of the Year went to Portrait Homes’ for Nelson Peak, the newest phase of their much-honoured Silver Ridge master planned community in Maple Ridge – one of two gold Ovations that went home with the Richmond-based builder.

Newcomers Making WavesThere were plenty of newcomers who

proved that it’s quality and vision that win Ovation Awards. JDL Homes garnered the BC Housing Award for Excellence in Creating Innovative Housing Choices with Cypress Mews that transformed a single-family lot in Kitsilano into four urban-savvy, infi ll residences.

Carol Faan Interiors dazzled judges with a Shaughnessy manor designed with marble inlays, lavish use of crystal accents and even a few secret rooms to create a family home that seamlessly blends high-profi le business entertaining with a warm, family-oriented lifestyle. The company took home the Best Interior Design Custom Living Space award.

In Langley, Jaheny Custom Builders drew gasps of astonishment in the Best Outdoor Living Space category for Tuscan Refl ections, which included an outdoor din-ing room, amphitheatre with full acoustic

system, infi nity swimming pool and two-acre man-made trout lake.

The public spoke when it came to the People’s Choice Award, which went to anoth-er fi rst-time entrant, Afdon Contracting Ltd. for Alpine Kitchen in North Vancouver – a white-on-white confection of urban sophis-tication that integrates indoor and outdoor spaces with crisp, minimalist design.

“Vancouver’s diverse culture, unique geography and growing demand for real estate are factors shaping our neighbour-hoods and housing choices,” said Bob de Wit, CEO, during the opening ceremony.
