e from the MaestroFor our Concert Season 31, we continue our tradition of excellence and bring you another fabulous selection of extraordinary concerts by the three VoxAmaDeus performing groups:• Vox Renaissance Consort returns with its traditional Renaissance Noël concert and brings you back in time to the glory of Old Europe, with lush cos- tumes and period instruments, and heavenly music of Italian, English and German masters, as well as traditional carols. New this year is an additional performance of this popular concert at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli.• Ama Deus Ensemble will captivate you with the glorious music of Beethoven in October, the traditional December Messiahs on Baroque instruments (new this year, an additional performance at historic St. Mark’s Church in Philadelphia) and, for our Good Friday concert, Mozart’s sublime Requiem paired with Beethoven’s dramatic oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives. This last work was premiered by Beethoven in 1803 at the same concert in which he premiered a work being performed in our October concert, the Piano Concerto No. 3 (with yours truly conducting and playing on the Bösendorfer Imperial Grand!). And finally, for our ever-popular January concert, now in its seventh edition, an evening of Gershwin hits, featuring renowned British pianist Peter Donohoe, back by popular demand.• Camerata Ama Deus brings you three exciting programs (spiced with Maestro’s entertaining “live notes”): an all-Bach program in September (with yours truly on the Bösendorfer Concert Grand), all-Vivaldi in November, and a fabulous mix of French and Venetian Baroque masters in April. Finally, two traditional intimate concerts featuring Maestro & Guests will round out the season. Be a part of our exciting Concert Season 31.

Concerto for Keyboard in A Major, BWV 1055

In this opening concert of our Season 31 we present a feast of orchestral masterpieces by Johann Sebastian Bach. He wrote a large number of magnificent instrumental works, most of which were composed during his pleasurable tenure at the court of Prince Leopold of Cöthen, a great patron of the arts. Of the four presented in this concert, two date from this Cöthen period and two from Bach’s time as director of the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig. The program includes Bach’s famous Double Concerto for two violins, a concerto for solo violin, and two concertos for keyboard, featuring Maestro Radu playing and conducting from the Bösendorfer Grand, in addition to his customary “live notes.”Running time: 2 hours, including one intermissionBösendorfer Concert Grand Piano courtesy of Cunningham Piano Company, Philadelphia

Reviews“Radu exploited inner colors in the string orchestra...The orchestral colors behind the

four soloists prompted solo work with strength and conviction. No mystique about that.”Daniel Webster, The Philadelphia Inquirer

“Radu obtains the best of two worlds, drawing remarkably full and rich sounds from his forces and yet maintaining rhythmic litheness and textural (and textual) transparency.”

James Altena, Fanfare Magazine

“[Brahms Requiem] is a disc to have...a new experience—which is what a great performance should be. This disc and that of Klemperer with the Philharmonia

Orchestra...should be in everyone’s collection.” Burton Rothleder, Fanfare Magazine

“Radu’s intense, uninhibited involvement and high energy produced one of the liveliest performances of a Mozart piano concerto I’ve ever heard...”

Tom Purdom, Broad Street Review

“The singers of the Ama Deus Ensemble are a cut above the average American choir in terms of intonation and control. In short, the performance is an exciting one.”

James Manheim, All Music Guide
