D ear Parents,
Once again we are proud to present our Vacation Reading
Program. We hope that with the help of this program families
can spend enjoyable time reading, which includes reading
independently or reading to one another. We believe that
during vacation it is important to allow for plenty of time for
your child to play, relax and be with friends and family. This is
why the main goal of this program is to give children the
opportunity to enjoy reading, and instill a life-long love for
books and the written word. This is also an opportunity to do
what research suggests as the most effective strategy to help
children retain the skills they worked so hard developing all year
long. Research not only shows that they are able to retain
these reading skills, but children who read over vacation often
come back to school ahead of peers.
In this booklet, you will find a variety of information regarding
the use of the library, from statistics to online access. You will
also find a list of the benefits that reading brings, famous
authors, recommended books and resources online.
Enjoy the vacation, and enjoy reading!

Vacation Reading P rogram
WHAT?
The Vacation Reading Program (VRP) is an opportunity for
students to keep enjoying literature, to improve their reading
skills and to strengthen their reading habits during vacation. The
program offers an excellent list of recommended authors and
books from the library collection that students and parents can
check out for vacation. It also provides the link to the library
catalog (OPAC) as well as other interesting sites that give
information about reading.
HOW?
In order to participate in the program the students should keep
a record of the books they read during vacation in the reading
log form found in this booklet. The students who return their
reading log to the librarians during the first week of School in
August will receive an special certificate.
