This irrigation system played a vital role in the life for Emiratis in rural and agricultural areas. Using innovative display technologies, the museum describes how this irrigation system works and showcases the various Falaj systems in the UAE. 14 The Old Village The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was passionate about agriculture, and once said: “Give me agriculture and I’ll secure a civilisation for you.” As with agriculture there is stability and hence a roadway to a flourished civilisation. This old village replicates the old farmers villages in the UAE with its various elements and components. 14 Traditional Medicine Exhibition The exhibition will show the vital work of the centre, its research studies on popular herbal medicines of the UAE, as well as alternative and prophetic medicines. 19 Dates and the UAE Heritage Exhibition This is a large exhibition with several displays, competitions and activities highlighting the special status of the palm tree as an essential part of the Emirati heritage. Visitors will learn here about the various industries based on different parts of the palm tree as well as the many types and varieties of dates. Amongst the many competitions are “The finest Dates” and “Best Packaging”. 7 Emirati Poet Majidi bin Dhaher Meusum This museum is the main attraction in the ‘Desert environment’, and it showcases the life and inspirations behind Bin Dhaher’s Nabati poetry. Bin Dhaher’s poetry captured several regional events and illustrated the bedouin life in that era. His work reflects his wisdom and the cultural diversity he was exposed to during his travels. The museum displays his achievements and the life he captured in his words, as well as a glossary of old words used in his poems that are no longer used today. Innovative display technology is used, including a hologram representing the poet, as he recites his poems to festival visitors. 2 Zayed & the Horse Exhibition This exhibition is dedicated to the horses of Al Nahyan family, using hi-tech displays to trace the history of the family’s best Arabian horses. This starts with the legend “Rabdan”, the horse of Sheikh Zayed the First, to the incredible and unbeatable “Al Anood”, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan’s horse. This goes all the way to His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed’s horses and his passion in this area and his use of modern technologies to help the breed of Arabian horses thrive. 3 Presidential Camel Exhibition It would be impossible to overstate how much Sheikh Zayed was passionate about the Arabian camel and how he supported the camel race industry as he was the main drive for it to flourish. His immense passion was routed from his belief that we have to protect and honour this creature, for all that it has done for our forefathers in the past. As well as shedding a light on this passion, the exhibition portrays the history of ten of the best and fastest riding “Presidential camels” in the UAE. 21 Emirati Navigator Ahmad bin Majid Museum This is the main attraction in the ‘Sea Environment’. It portrays the life and achievements of the pioneering Emirati navigator, Ahmad bin Majid, who discovered the Cape of Good Hope and made many remarkable breakthroughs in his field. He made groundbreaking contributions to marine science and astronomy. His work enabled navigation to flourish in the Arab world and beyond. The museum describes these achievements and illustrates his journeys. The museum is built to simulate his ship and features a 3D hologram of the Emirati navigator who will narrate his fascinating stories to the visitors. 25 Dhow-Building Area Our ancestors were true innovators in the dhow-building industry, and it helped them to travel far to trade and build relations with neighbouring nations. In this live set-up, skilled craftsmen will be making dhows using the same old methods and material as in the past. Visitors will gain a deeper appreciation of this profession and its impact on people’s life in the past. 20 Hunting Exhibition Tawazun will exhibit their latest products in hunting and defense weaponry, ammunition, shooting clubs and training services. They will be showcasing the best of UAE craftsmanship and the latest weaponry innovations. 24 The Sail Corner Visitors to the exhibition will expand their knowledge of sailing and learn about the various activities of the club and how these sports are an essential part of the UAE’s heritage. 28 Al Bidya Historic Mosque This is the main attraction in the “Mountain Environment”. It is an exact replica of the historic Al Bidya mosque, impressively capturing even the tiniest details. Al Bidya mosque was built around 1446 AD, in the village of Bidya in Fujairah. It is the oldest standing mosque in the UAE. This replica is built with large and small stones with burnt clay as a binding agent, exactly like the old mosque. There is also a dedicated photo gallery illustrating in details how the original mosque was built. 32 Sweet and Honey Corner This corner showcases how sweets were made in the past. The sweets will be made and served live to visitors using the same ingredients, recipes and utensils as in the past 27 Falcons Exhibition Falconry is an ancient art that has a special place in Emirati heritage. Over the generations, falconry has flourished in various cities and regions in the UAE. This exhibition displays the various activities of the club, the latest falconry accessories and products, as well as an overview of the importance of falcons in the UAE culture. 29 Arabian Saluki Exhibition The Arabian saluki dogs played a vital role in the old days as hunters and loyal travelling companions. Ancient Bedouins raised these dogs for thousands of years because of their exceptional intelligence, loyalty and courage. The exhibition will display various activities and an overview of the Arabian Saluki Centre as well as the saluki’s significance in the local heritage. About Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival The Festival is named in honour of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in recognition of his pivotal role in preserving our nation’s proud history as a gateway to the future. The Festival celebrates the UAE’s cultural inheritance, showcases the rich diversity of its traditions and provides an educational platform for enlightenment. It illustrates that the UAE’s remarkable progress is not a coincidence but, rather, a legacy of our forefathers’ inspiring achievements. Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival 2014 Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival 2014 is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, with the support of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and under the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. It includes historical images about the United Arab Emirates, paying tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It portrays through several exhibitions Sheikh Zayed’s life, achievements and inspirational quotes. It also explores Sheikh Zayed’s passion for advancing the nation through education, agriculture, women’s empowerment and prosperity for all. The wing has a dedicated section for oral history and a gallery for sports heritage. The latest technologies are used, such as holograms and interactive displays. 4 Traditional Customs Exhibition The UAE has a long heritage of customs that have been shaped by the different environments, and proudly preserved by our ancestors. These have been influenced by Islamic values and old Arabic traditions. What people share during various celebrations and their warm hospitality is also part of the tradition. Visitor will experience these customs through direct interactions. 18 International Market The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, was a passionate advocate for preserving our heritage as an asset to the nation for generations to come. His interest was not merely restricted to the national level, but also extended to World Heritage. This is epitomized by a prize bearing his name and sponsored by UNESCO, to promote humanitarian and efforts that preserve endangered heritage. Since the UAE embraces about 200 nationalities of numerous cultures, this further enriches its cultural diversity.
