Viewing ABELDent Program GroupsOnceyouveinstalledABELDent,thefollowingprogram groupswillappearonyourdesktop:Choose This Icon To Launch ABELDent Fictional Data to view the different icons for each fictional group and a Fictional Data Overview icon. Each icon runs ABELDent with all the fictional patient data you will need to start exploring the ABELDent program! To find out the contents of each icon, double-click the Fictional Data Overview icon. Launch ABELDent

Add members, roles, security settings and access privileges. Also, specify video capture settings.

Creating and Managing MembersAmemberisanindividualonyourstaffwhowillbeableto accessandworkwithintheABELDentprogram.Members areaddedoneatatimeandaregivenaLoginnameand passwordthatallowsthemtologontotheprogram. Inaddition: SecurityinABELDentisensuredbyassigningmembers accessprivilegestoonlythoseABELDentfunctionsthey needtoperformtheirjob.Theseprivilegeswilldiffer dependingonthemember. Memberscanbeassignedtoaroleandwillbegranted thesameaccessprivilegesthathavebeendefinedforthe role. Memberscanbeassignedtheirownaccessprivileges thattakeprecedenceoverthoseintheroletowhich theyvebeenassigned. OncemembershavebeenaddedtoABELDentthey cannotbedeleted,buttheycanbemadeinactiveeither permanently,orforatemporaryperiodoftime(and thenreactivated).

Optional Allows dentists to quickly locate and select commonly prescribed drugs. Optional ABELDent ships with pre-loaded document types, but you have the option to add more on an as needed" basis.

Insurance PlansInsuranceplansdefinethescopeofcoverageprovidedto thepatient.YoucanaddinsuranceplanstoABELDentand thenlinktheplanstopatientsontheirInsuranceTab.You mustalsolinktheplantoacarrierifyouwillbesending claimselectronically.SeeAddingInsurancePlanson page 80.

Insurance CarriersInsurancecarriersthatareknowntoofferdentalinsurance coveragearepreloadedintoABELDent.Whenadding insuranceplansyoucanlinktheplantotheapplicable Carrier.However,ifapatientscoverageiswithacarriernot includedinABELDent,youcanadditthesystem.The insurancecarrierfilecontainsalltheEDIinformation requiredforaclaimtobesubmittedelectronically.See AddingInsuranceCarriersonpage 106.

Insurance AssignmentInsuranceassignmentallowsinsuredpatientstoauthorize theirdentalbenefitsplancarriertopayyourofficedirectly forcoveredservices.Itisthenyourresponsibilitytocollect anyremainingamountowedbythepatient. Ifyouchoosetotakeassignment,ABELDentwillkeep trackofamountsowedbythepatient,andbythepatients insurancecarrierseparately.Thisway,apatientwillonly bebilledforthoseamountsnotcoveredundertheir insurance.Manyofficesuseinsuranceassignmenttomake treatmentcostsmoreaffordableforpatientswhohave insurancecoverage. Toprovideyouwithflexibilityinmanagingassignment, ABELDentoffersthreelevelsofassignmentSystemlevel, InsurancePlanlevelandPatientlevel.1

Werecommendthatyou alwayschoose assignmentatthe insuranceplanlevel. Thisdoesntmeanyou havetotakeassignment, butifyoudecidetotake assignmentsforpatients youcandosowithout havingtoreturnandset uptheinsuranceplan assignment.

What are the Billing Options?Ifyourofficedecidestotakeinsuranceassignment,you canbillusingeitherofthefollowingmethods: Billtheentirecostofaproceduretothepatients insurancecompany.Uponreceivingtheinsurance paymentportion(eitherthroughthemail,orfroman EOBreceivedviaEDItransmissionofthetreatmentcost (e.g.80%),youcanbillthepatientfortheremainder,or uninsuredportionofthecost.SeeChapter5 RecordingandBillingTreatmentinVolume2Practice ManagementGuide Billthepatientportionoftheprocedureimmediately andreceivetheinsuranceportionlater.Enterthe patientsinsuranceplancoverage(includingmaximums, deductibles,andpercentageofcoverageforPreventive, Basic,Major,andOrtho).ABELDentwillautomatically separatewhatthepatientowesfromwhattheinsurance iscovering,allowingthepatienttopaywhattheyowe immediately.SeeAddingInsurancePlansonpage 80.

Should I Use Insurance Assignment?Whetherornottoacceptassignmentofbenefitsisa decisionthateachpracticeshouldmakeindividually. Insurance Assignment and CDAnetYourpracticecansubmitclaimselectronicallyusing CDAnetwhetherornotyouacceptinsuranceassignment foryourpatients.Theassignmentstatusofeachinsurance claimisautomaticallydeterminedfromyourdatawhen treatmentisentered,andsentwiththeelectronicclaim electronicallytotheinsurancecarrier.SeeChapter5 RecordingandBillingTreatmentinVolume2Practice ManagementGuide, Ifyouacceptassignment,paymentforclaimssubmitted usingCDAnetismostoftenmailedtothedentalpractice. Somecarriersmayoverrideassignmentanddirectthe chequetotheinsuranceplansubscriber. Ifyoudonotaccepttheassignment,paymentforclaims submittedusingCDAnetismailedtotheInsurancePlan Subscriberwiththesubscriber snameonthecheque.

Adding Insurance PlansGroupandindividualdentalinsuranceplansoffera varietyofcoveragesthatdefinethescopeofprotection providedtotheinsured. Theseplansspecifythedentalservicesthatarecovered, andtheamountthatispayablebyboththeinsurer,andthe patientintheformofmaximums,deductiblesand percentageofcoverageforeachplan. YoucanaddinsuranceplanstoABELDentandthenlink theplanstopatientsontheirInsuranceTab.Insurance planscanbeenteredintothesystembyemployerorby insurancecompany.

Officescanchoosetouse acombinationofthetwo options.Forexample, youmightwanttoenter andtrackcoveragefora largeemployerinyour area,andbyinsurance companyforothers.

Enter by EmployerTheplancanbeenteredbythecompanynameforwhom thepatientworks.Thisallowsyoutoenterinsurance coveragedetailsforeachpatient. Forexample,ifseveralpatientsworkatDofasco,as managers,fulltimestaff,orparttimestaff,theycanbe enteredasDofascoM(theplannameformanagers), andDofascoF(forfulltimestaff ),andDofascoP(for parttimestaff ).Foreachoftheseplansyoucanenter theapplicabledeductibles,maximums,andthe percentageofcoverageforeachplan.

Ifyouplantousethe EnterbyEmployer methodthenyoumust updatethecoveragein ABELDenteachtimethe planchanges,otherwise, thepatientportionwill becalculatedincorrectly.
