USCB Welcomes Military Students

The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is commit-
ted to helping Tri-command area military personnel and
their family members pursue a university degree. Course
times and schedules are arranged with the military lifestyle
in mind. Classes are offered on the Air Station or Parris
Island. Or students can join the larger university community
by choosing classes on campuses in historic Beaufort and
at the gateway to Hilton Head Island.
Benefit from the Full University ExperienceUSCB is a four year university with deep local roots and theresources of a major state university system. Our 200-acre SouthCampus boasts one of the most technologically advanced librarieson the East Coast– podcast lectures, virtual classrooms, interactivevideoconferencing and collaborative computer labs enliven thelearning environment. Our beautiful waterfront campus in historicBeaufort is the site of the founding of Beaufort College in 1795 andhas offered University of South Carolina courses since 1959.
Students benefit from faculty student interaction in a personalsetting; our average class size is 16. Full-time, on-site USCBfaculty members are dedicated to student success.
Military personnel and their families can take advantage of as muchuniversity campus life as they wish–by taking classes on campusand by joining in student clubs and activities.
Credit for Military Experience Elective credit toward anassociate degree may be awarded for educational experience in themilitary, such as recruit training, MOS schools and CLEP, Dantes andMCI correspondence courses. Credit for military experience iscounted as elective credit.
TheAssociate Degrees USCB’s academic programs formilitary students lead to an Associate of Arts or an Associate ofScience degree. Students receive instruction and practice in effec-tive oral and written communication, cultivate an understanding ofthe liberal and fine arts, and broaden their historical and culturalawareness. Students study the social and natural sciences, acquiretechnological and information literacy, and build skills in numericaland analytical reasoning.
The Bachelor’s Degrees Military students can complete anassociate degree and continue directly into the coursework leadingto a baccalaureate degree. Areas of study leading to a baccalaure-ate degree include:

Benefits for Military Personnel and their FamiliesOn Base Offices. USCB’s full-time Office of Military Programs, withlocations on both the Air Station and Parris Island, helps studentsbalance military and university life. USCB on-base staff assistprospective students with admissions, tuition assistance andtransfer of credits. They are available to help with scheduling,registration and academic advising.
Scheduling to accommodate the demands of a military career.To better serve the schedules of military personnel, USCB offersfive eight-week sessions each year. Classes begin in January,March, June, August and October.
Military students have priority in all on-base classes; civiliansjoin the on-base courses on a space available basis.
USCB is a member of Service Members Opportunity Colleges(SOC), a consortium of colleges who work together to assistmilitary students in finishing degrees if their studies are disruptedby a relocation or deployment.
