Monstruleţi înfometaţiHungry little monsters

Hungry little monsters is a campaign what serves to promote youngsters and not only, to throw rub-bish to the bin. This process requires painting and decorating all street bins and hopefully even house bins in order to make recycling more fun and inter-active for everyone. The problem in Timisoara is that we don’t separate the trash. Glass and paper, metal, plastic or organic waste are all put together in one black bag and will end up in the same place, meaning the junk yard, or in rare cases in a fire just outside your building. Well, thats why the hungry little mon-sters come in many colors: green- pa-per, blue- glass, purple- metal, orange- organic waste, and yellow- plastic ;. I know this is a pretty hard thing to do, maybe you don’t have a purple hungry little monster close by, and you want to throw your metal in the green hungry little monster, but not to worry, we found a solution to this problem.

It is a brilliant game and it consist in: -First step is to search for the hungry little monster on the app. After your phone locates the monster a timer will go on. Once you arrive to the specific point you have to take a picture of your trash together with your mon-ster and upload it on your hungry little monster profile. You earn points accord-ing to the time it takes you to finish your mission. Comori ascunseHidden treasures

Timisoara is a place of architectural beauty but people have busy lives and they miss the full potential of the buld-ings. Did you know that all the buildings in Victory Square are actually palaces? Each was made by different architects for different noble families. Now, they have on the first floor all kinds of shops or restaurants. Everyone who passes will most likely never look up at the building and simply walk in.

06

MICHAEL SCHNEIDER

Each palace and many other buildings of Timisoara are fitted with marve-lous roofs, complex architectural and decorative motifs, and statues. These statues are almost never seen because of the many distraction from the street level. When you are in Timisoara, it is absolutely worth to look up. It will make you optimistic and give you something to remember.

14

Page 15: urbanTM

COMORI ASCUNSE

For those who still do not observe the statues above them, the street also has a few treasures. The Fish Fountain in Victory Square creates a unique display of color each morning from 7 to 8 during May, June and July. The urban planning

15

made this possible on pupose because it left the sunrise shine directly on the fountain. But what if you want to hear something? Some music maybe? Near the tram station in Liberty Square there is a building that houses the Music

Faculty. They rehears each day and leave the windows open. This allows anyone who is near there to listen to the beauti-ful sounds of Mozart, Beethoven, and others.

GRAFFITI VS VANDALIZARE

BURETA FLAVIA

My topic of social importance in Timişoara is the homeless dogs. My strategy is to convince people that dogs don’t deserve to die or to be killed. I want to convince people to save the dogs by adopting and taking care of them. Ithought of graphic proposals to motivate people, especially kids, to adopt the dogs.

TURNURILE DE APĂ

39

This publication is the outcome of a workshop conducted by andrews:degen, a graphic design studio based in Amsterdam. Students from the graphic design department of the Vest University, in Timișoara, Romania, explored one week their city from different angles. Timișoara is the 3rd largest city and a municipality in Romania. Located in the Banat region, Timișoara has traditionally been one of the leading centres of romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life. Timișoara itself has a population of 311.428 and accommodates over 60,000 students.

The topics are based on social issues, personal stories and visual communication in the city of Timișoara. Students developed interventions, campaigns and poetic visual statements. Design thinking and the use of design tools as a method for research, exploration and problem solving.

This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Centrul Cultural German Timișoara, Casa Artelor and the Universitatea de Vest Timișoara - Facultatea de Arte și Design.
