4 Ways to Manicurein MinutesBy: Evelyn Cheah

1. Soak, Clean, Push:- To start, soak handsin olive oil to nourish the skin. Or massagecuticle oil around your fingertips then gen-tly push the cuticles back with an orange-wood stick wrapped in cotton to give yournails a professionally groomed look. "Cleanyour nails before painting, Oil-free fingerswill stop polish from peeling off."

2. Get In Shape:- The 'Square-oval' nailshape is over. This season, it's all aboutdelicate almond shape, which adds lengthto fingers. Trim nails with clippers, then fileeach nail in one direction, towards the tip, using an emery board. Don't file the cor-ners because they give extra strength tothe nail. Gently buff and polish the entirenail bed in a circular motion to remove anyridges.

3. Polish Up:- Time for the base coat, whichprotects the nail bed from staining andgives the polish a smooth surface to adhereto. Wipe the brush front and back on therim of the bottle to ensure even distribu-tion, then apply with just three strokes -one up the center and one either side. Be-gin at the base of your nail and steadilybring the brush over and under the tips tostop chipping.

4. Hang Onto Your Hue:- For the ultimateshine, apply a final layer of top coat to lockin the color and prevent any nasty chips. Can't stay in the lines? Dab a cotton budwith nail polish remover to get rid of anytelltale signs on your fingertips.

Don't ruin all your hard work with thatpesky sheet imprint. Instead, hold off thetop coat until the morning for super shinynails.About the Author

How To Set And AchieveYour Goals By: Jean-Yves PASQUET

With the right attitude, you can makeyour dreams come true and experiencethe fulfilling life you were born to live. With time and dedication, you can find away to get to where you deserve to be!

Use these five strategies to set yourselfon the path that leads to your success:

1. Write it down. You can achieve greatthings if you put your mind to it. But un-less you write it down, your goal will re-main wishful thinking.* Tip: Writing down your goals helps you to crystal-lize your thinking. Instead of vague generalizations, you'll set your goals with clear objectives and anunderstanding of the direction you must head in or-der to experience the realization of those goals.

2. Focus on actions, instead of results. Youcan control the actions you take on thepath to your goals. Focus on your actions, and the results will take care of them-selves. When you do, you'll feel less pres-sure along the way because your focuswill be on things you can control.* Tip: Break the goal down into small steps. Thisseries of steps will serve as your roadmap. Keepputting one foot in front of the other and noticewhat's working and what isn't. If you continue mov-ing forward and refuse to give up, you will reach thefinish line.

3. Be consistent. Once you have a roadmapin place, consistently take action in thedirection of your dreams. Things likelywon't go exactly as you've planned, butyou can adjust your plan as you take ac-tion and receive feedback on your prog-ress.* Tip: Whenever you set a goal, take one small steptoward its fulfillment. That way, when you leave agoal setting session, you've already made someprogress. This will provide great encouragement foryou to continue.

* If you're unsure how to proceed towardthe result you're after, get started on thepath to that goal anyway. Determine thefirst step you need to take, and then takeit. Once that's done, ask yourself what thenext step should be, and then do it! Keep itsimple, and keep taking one step at a timeuntil your goal is achieved.

4. Learn from your setbacks. There's an oldsaying that claims that nothing worth hav-ing ever comes easy. When you pursueanything that's worthwhile, you're sure toexperience setbacks. It's how you treat thesetbacks that will determine whether yousucceed or fail. Learn from these experi-ences and welcome them as course correc-tions toward your inevitable success.

5. Celebrating success along the way. Whenthings go your way, celebrate. Every day, visualize what success will feel like and cel-ebrate your inevitable victory. Treat your-self to a reward when you overcomechallenging obstacles. Remember that suc-cess is a journey to be savored and notsimply a destination to be reached.

You have a greater capacity for successthan you realize. Within you is everythingyou need to reach the dreams that are inyour heart. Incorporate these five stepsinto the pursuit of your goal, and your suc-cess is yours!

(and vice versa). In a healthy relationship, your significant other isthere with a shoulder to cry on when you find out your parents aregetting divorced and to celebrate with you when you get the leadin a play.

Fairness/equality. You need to have give-and-take in your rela-tionship, too. Do you take turns choosing which new movie tosee? As a couple, do you hang out with your partner's friends asoften as you hang out with yours? It's not like you have to keep arunning count and make sure things are exactly even, of course. But you'll know if it isn't a pretty fair balance. Things get bad reallyfast when a relationship turns into a power struggle, with one per-son fighting to get his or her way all the time.

Separate identities. In a healthy relationship, everyone needs tomake compromises. But that doesn't mean you should feel likeyou're losing out on being yourself. When you started going out,you both had your own lives (families, friends, interests, hobbies, etc.) and that shouldn't change. Neither of you should have to pre-tend to like something you don't, or give up seeing your friends, ordrop out of activities you love. And you also should feel free tokeep developing new talents or interests, making new friends, andmoving forward.

Good communication. You've probably heard lots of stuff abouthow men and women don't seem to speak the same language. We all know how many different meanings the little phrase "no,nothing's wrong" can have, depending on who's saying it! Butwhat's important is to ask if you're not sure what he or she means, and speak honestly and openly so that the miscommunication isavoided in the first place. Never keep a feeling bottled up becauseyou're afraid it's not what your BF or GF wants to hear or becauseyou worry about sounding silly. And if you need some time to thinksomething through before you're ready to talk about it, the rightperson will give you some space to do that if you ask for it.

What's an Unhealthy Relationship?

A relationship is unhealthy when it involves mean, disrespectful, controlling, or abusive behavior. Some people live in homes withparents who fight a lot or abuse each other — emotionally, verbal-ly, or physically. For some people who have grown up around thiskind of behavior it can almost seem normal or OK. It's not! Manyof us learn from watching and imitating the people close to us. Sosomeone who has lived around violent or disrespectful behaviormay not have learned how to treat others with kindness and re-spect or how to expect the same treatment.

Qualities like kindness and respect are absolute requirements fora healthy relationship. Someone who doesn't yet have this partdown may need to work on it with a trained therapist before he orshe is ready for a relationship. Meanwhile, even though you mightfeel bad or feel for someone who's been mistreated, you need totake care of yourself — it's not healthy to stay in a relationship that

Am I in a Healthy Relationship?

It Feels Like Love - But Is It?

Sometimes it feels impossible to find someone who's right for you— and who thinks you're right for him or her! So when it happens, you're usually so psyched that you don't even mind when your littlebrother finishes all the ice cream or your English teacher choosesthe one day when you didn't do your reading to give you a popquiz.

It's totally normal to look at the world through rose-colored glassesin the early stages of a relationship. But for some people, thoserose-colored glasses turn into blinders that keep them from seeingthat a relationship isn't as healthy as it should be.

What Makes a Healthy Relationship?

Hopefully, you and your significant other are treating each otherwell. Not sure if that's the case? Take a step back from the dizzyingsensation of being swept off your feet and think about whether yourrelationship has these seven qualities:

Mutual respect. Does he or she get how cool you are and why?(Watch out if the answer to the first part is yes but only becauseyou're acting like someone you're not!) The key is that your BF orGF is into you for who you are — for your great sense of humor, your love of reality TV, etc. Does your partner listen when you sayyou're not comfortable doing something and then back off rightaway? Respect in a relationship means that each person valueswho the other is and understands — and would never challenge —the other person's boundaries.

Trust. You're talking with a guy from French class and your boy-friend walks by. Does he completely lose his cool or keep walkingbecause he knows you'd never cheat on him? It's OK to get a littlejealous sometimes — jealousy is a natural emotion. But how a per-son reacts when feeling jealous is what matters. There's no wayyou can have a healthy relationship if you don't trust each other.

Honesty. This one goes hand-in-hand with trust because it's toughto trust someone when one of you isn't being honest. Have youever caught your girlfriend in a major lie? Like she told you that shehad to work on Friday night but it turned out she was at the movieswith her friends? The next time she says she has to work, you'llhave a lot more trouble believing her and the trust will be on shakyground.

Support. It's not just in bad times that your partner should supportyou. Some people are great when your whole world is falling apartbut can't take being there when things are going right 16

Your girlfriend or boyfriend isn't there to make you feel good aboutyourself if you can't do that on your own. Focus on being happywith yourself, and don't take on the responsibility of worrying aboutsomeone else's happiness.

What if you feel that your girlfriend or boyfriend needs too muchfrom you? If the relationship feels like a burden or a drag instead ofa joy, it might be time to think about whether it's a healthy matchfor you. Someone who's not happy or secure may have troublebeing a healthy relationship partner.

Also, intense relationships can be hard for some teenagers. Someare so focused on their own developing feelings and responsibili-ties that they don't have the emotional energy it takes to respondto someone else's feelings and needs in a close relationship. Don'tworry if you're just not ready yet. You will be, and Ever notice thatsome teen relationships don't last very long? It's no wonder —you're still growing and changing every day, and it can be tough toput two people together whose identities are both still in the pro-cess of forming. You two might seem perfect for each other at first, but that can change. If you try to hold on to the relationship any-way, there's a good chance it will turn sour. Better to part asfriends than to stay in something that you've outgrown or that nolonger feels right for one or both of you. And before you go lookingfor amour from that hottie from French class, respect your currentbeau by breaking things off before you make your move.

Relationships can be one of the best — and most challenging —parts of your world. They can be full of fun, romance, excitement, intense feelings, and occasional heartache, too. Whether you'resingle or in a relationship, remember that it's good to be choosyabout who you get close to. If you're still waiting, take your timeand get to know plenty of people.

Think about the qualities you value in a friendship and see howthey match up with the ingredients of a healthy relationship. Workon developing those good qualities in yourself — they make you alot more attractive to others. And if you're already part of a pair, make sure the relationship you're in brings out the best in both ofyou.

Warning Signs

When a boyfriend or girlfriend uses verbal insults, mean language, nasty putdowns, gets physical by hitting or slapping, or forcessomeone into sexual activity, it's an important warning sign of ver-bal, emotional, or physical abuse.

Ask yourself, does my boyfriend or girlfriend:get angry when I don'tdrop everything for him or her?criticize the way I look or dress, andsay I'll never be able to find anyone else who would date me? keepme from seeing friends or from talking to any other guys or girls?want me to quit an activity, even though I love it? ever raise a handwhen angry, like he or she is about to hit me? try to force me to gofurther sexually than I want to? These aren't the only questions youcan ask yourself. If you can think of any way in which your boy-friend or girlfriend is trying to control you, make you feel bad aboutyourself, isolate you from the rest of your world, or — this is a bigone — harm you physically or sexually, then it's time to get out, fast. Let a trusted friend or family member know what's going onand make sure you're safe.

It can be tempting to make excuses or misinterpret violence, pos-sessiveness, or anger as an expression of love. But even if youknow that the person hurting you loves you, it is not healthy. Noone deserves to be hit, shoved, or forced into anything he or shedoesn't want to do.

Why Are Some Relationships So Difficult?

Ever heard about how it's hard for someone to love you when youdon't love yourself? It's a big relationship roadblock when one orboth people struggle with self-esteem problems.

5 Ways to Get Your 5 a Day

You may have heard that you should eat 5servings of fruit and vegetables a day —which works out to a total of about 2½cups. But experts actually recommend get-ting even more than that amount.

There are no limits on the quantities oftasty fruits and veggies you can enjoy —unless, of course, you load 'em up withbutter or dressing, or deep-fry them! Butmany of us still find it hard to fit fruit andveggies into our meals.

Here are some ideas to help you get intothe 5-a-day (or more!) habit:

Start with the first meal of the day. Plan toeat a serving or two of fruit withbreakfast every day. Mix it up so youdon't get bored. Half a grapefruit, anapple, or a handful of berries on yourcereal are all good choices. Orangejuice counts too — but only if youdrink 100% juice. (Limit juice to 1 or2 servings a day). Continue this pat-tern by eating vegetables at lunchand at dinner.

Get extra energy from fruit or vegetablesnacks. The carbohydrates in fruitand vegetables are great sourcesof energy. Combine them with aserving of protein — such as apiece of cheese, a cup of yogurt,or a tablespoon of peanut butter, and you get staying power too.Ants on a log, anyone?

Double up on fruit and veggie servings.Recommended servings of fruitand veggies can be small. Unlikeother foods, it's OK to double theserving size of fruit or vegetables.Serve yourself a 1-cup portion ofbroccoli or tomatoes instead of thestandard serving of ½ cup.

Use fruit and vegetables as ingredients.Enjoy bread? Bake up a batch ofzucchini bread and get your veg-gies along with your grains! Useapplesauce instead of oil in yourbaked goods. Chop up veggies(peppers, carrots, celery) and tossthem into your favorite chili reci-pe. If you don't like vegetablesmuch, sneak them into foods youdo enjoy (like grating carrots intotomato sauce or, again, zucchiniinto bread). It's a great way to getyour veggies without having totaste them!

Try a new fruit, vegetable, or recipe eachweek. Our bodies like variety. Soset a goal to try something differ-ent each week. You may find anew favorite. One good way to getvariety is to eat the fruit and veg-gies that are in season in yourarea. They usually taste betterthan the bland fruit salad or shriv-eled apples you're used to seeingin the cafeteria!

Holiday ExclusiveChoosing the Right Valen-tine's Day Gift for HerBy: Memorable Gifts

Choosing the right Valentine's Day Gift for hercan seem like a laborious and mind-bogglingprocess.  The goal in finding the right gift isone that has a perfect fusion of appealing toher unique qualities and illustrating your affec-tion.  It's a tough balancing act, though animperative one.

When buying the precise Valentine's Day giftfor the special lady in your life, here are a fewthings to keep in mind:

1) What are her interests?

Common sense it seems like?  You don't wantto buy her a golfer's gift if she absolutelyhates golfing or a business gift if she's notworking, right?  After all, when purchasing agift for a girlfriend, wife or other special some-one, you want to ensure she actually likes it.This is extremely important.

2) How long will the gift last?

When it comes to Valentine's Day, this is atopic not many people think of.  Though manywomen love to receive the traditional flowersand chocolates, having a timeless gift (onethat can last for many years) is much moresignificant than flowers, chocolates, or othertime-sensitive goodies.  Don't get me wrong, flowers and chocolate are important Valentinescomponents, but over time, such gifts havebecome less and less memorable.  On theother hand, gifts like a jewelry box, tealightcandle holder, or a purse mirror are idealtimeless gifts that can not only signify Valen-tine's Day, but gifts that she can use day today.

3) How should I deliver the gift?

Before thinking about the right Valentine's Daygift delivery presentation, you must make surethat her special gift comes before or on Valen-tine's Day.  Unfortunately, what good would aValentine's Day gift serve if your special ladyreceives it once it's too late?

Sure, she may still appreciate the gesture andthe gift, but you've already lost half of thebattle of when you really think about.

Additionally, the actual delivery of a gift isjust as important as the gift delivery timing,as well as the gift itself.  The key details, suchas specific wrapping and location, are impor-tant elements to a perfect Valentine's Day giftdelivery.

Giving a gift is like giving a gift from the heart-- not all of us have the same hearts, so whynot give a personalized gift that signifiesyours and her unique heart?  To all the menout there: sons, boyfriends, husbands, un-cles, grandfathers, and dads -- go and get ahead start and make your special lady smileon Valentine's Day.  Just like Santa said forChristmas, "make a list, and check it twice!"
