UPS Remembrance Parade – Sports Arena at Hopwood Hall College
On Friday 11.11.2011 the UPS Department will hold their own remembrance parade. All students will
parade at the Sports Arena at 10.30am in smart uniform wearing a poppy, even if this is your day off
you will be required to turn up. We appreciate you may have other commitments but this is your opportunity to
remember the fallen and those who gave their life for this great country. Please inform your family and friends that they
are welcome and to turn up no later than 10.40am.
UPS Remembrance Parade – Rochdale Town Centre
On Sunday 13.11.2011 the UPS Department will march through the centre of Rochdale with the
Royal British Legion and other organisations. We are asking all students to turn up and support this
event and showcase our fantastic course and to again remember the fallen and who gave their life
for this great country. You are required to meet up on Mere Street, Rochdale, OL11 1OJ at 9.30am.
Students will parade in smart uniform wearing a poppy.
If your marching is not that good and still want to be involved you can assist me with stewarding at the Rochdale Town
Hall and Memorial. You will need to be in full uniform wearing a poppy and turn up at 10.45am.
Please remember to ask your family and friends to attend and wear their poppy with pride.
Waterproof Jackets and Fleeces.
Please let me first apologise for the time it is taking to issue the students with their Waterproof
Jackets and Fleeces. They are on their way the company who supplies us with these in the UK are
having problems with the overseas company that produces them. They should be with us no later
than the last week in November.
Accessing the College Intra-Net from home (It’s Learning and the Splash)
Following on from students concerns about accessing It’s Learning these have been forwarded on to our IT department to
ensure that students have access both in College and at home. The students will be soon issued with a booklet/card
explaining to them how to access this from home to support them in their learning. The card will also have a free phone
number you can use if you are experiencing any difficulties and how to down load free software to access this. This
software will not carry any viruses

Authorised Absences
If a student requires time off to attend Doctors, Dentist and Hospital Appointments can we please ask
that you try and arrange these during their time off so that they don’t miss any work? We appreciate
that in some cases this cannot happen or it may be an emergency but where it is possible we would be
very grateful. If a student will be going on Holiday during term time at least 2 week’s notice is necessary for us to supply
them with information and resources required to keep them up to date with their study.
Days off from College
During the week the students may be fortunate enough to get 1 or 2 days off from College. This is to
support the students by giving them the time to work on and complete their assignments. If students fail to
meet deadlines then they will be required to come in on their day off to catch up. All students at the start
of the year signed a contract committing to College Monday to Friday 9.00am to 16.45. This is to support the students in
achieving their full potential. We appreciate that some may have other commitments or jobs and we as a department
encourage this but we must all remember that their education comes first to support them for their future.
Strike Action 30th November 2011 and Charity Fund Raising
The proposed strike action scheduled for the 30th November will not affect the UPS Department therefore it is business as
usual, however it will be a non-uniform day and we ask the students to donate £1.00 towards our chosen charities also
during the month of November several male members of UPS Staff will be growing moustaches for Cancer Research for
Men and again we are asking students, family and friends to donate £1.00, the monies raised will be split up in to the
three UPS charities Men’s Cancer Research, Children In Need and Help for Heroes.
Thank You
Staff Morley
