From the Desk of Secretary – TSI

Dear Colleagues,

As you get this Newsletter in your hands, our preparations for the prestigious

ASIATRIB-2014 Conference will be in full swing. I am sure all of you have

marked your calendars to be present in the Jaypee Palace Hotel and

Convention Centre at Agra during 17 – 20 February 2014, to personally take

part in this mega event. I hope most of you have taken the advantage of Early

Bird Discount for advance registration and also submitted technical papers for

the Conference. The Core Committee entrusted with organizing ASIATRIB-

2014 is taking all possible efforts to make this a landmark event. I am happy to

share with you that we have received tremendous response to our invitation for

technical paper submission and are also hoping to achieve a sizeable number in terms of foreign

delegates from many countries. Please do come forward and join hands with the Organizing Committee

in whatever way you would like to contribute your support. Hosting an international event of this scale is a

daunting task, but I sincerely believe that together we can do it.

As in the past years, we had organized the 5th TSI Summer School during 24 – 28 June 2013 at IiPM,

Gurgaon. For the fifth time in a row, this event turned out to a major platform to bring together industry

participants, teaching fraternity and researchers for very fruitful interaction. We also succeeded in getting

financial sponsorship from the Science & Engineering Research Board – Department of Science &

Technology (SERB – DST), which proves that the TSI Summer School has come to be recognized as a

program of national importance. The credit goes to the organizing team at TSI Headquarters, ably guided

by Mr. A K Mehta, ED (TSI).

As you may have observed from the TSI website, new managing committees have been elected at most

of our Local Chapters and several events have been organized across locations. There has also been a

positive response from student fraternity to take up TSI membership. While this is an encouraging trend,

we need to significantly scale up our initiatives at Local Chapter level and I urge all of you to extend your

whole-hearted support for making our Local Chapters more vibrant.

I take this opportunity to convey my greetings to you and your family for a very enjoyable winter vacation.

May the New Year - 2014 usher in prosperity, good health and the best of everything for all of us,

With best wishes,

Dr. Barun Chakrabarti

Secretary - TSI
