The word contagious means to be able to spread by contact. It also is defined in the dictionary as exciting similar emotion or conduct in others. Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way to prosper and then thou shalt have good success. Reading the Bible can make us contagious with Bible principles to live by daily. Reading the Bible will make us contagious with good thinking, meditating on God’s Word. Reading the Bible will make us contagious and want to pray for ourselves and others. Reading the Bible and being saved will make us have contagious Christianity. Reading the Bible will help us to be loving, kind, compassionate and caring. We will want to share all the good and blessed things God does with and through us with others. The word contagious also has some interesting meanings. 1. To carry and transmit. 2. To spread emotions, customs, and ideas from one person to another. Some of the most important things in our lives have been caught to us, not taught to us. We have caught ideas from parents, teachers, friends, and the media. God wants us to be saved and to learn from Him and His Word. Jesus is the way and the truth! The Bible tells us the truth will make us free. Joshua 24:15 Joshua said, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! It is a choice to rejoice, to love, to care, to be kind, to be compassionate, to be honest, and to be a contagious Christian abiding in Jesus Christ. We have to choose what we will be contagious WITH in our society. Will we be contagious with hate, unkindness, lies, fear, anger and depression? Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. Come to Christ by faith and ask Him to save you and change you. He can change your heart, forgive your sin and make you new within. Let us all be contagious with the LOVE of Jesus. GOD SO LOVED! John 3:16-18. Jesus loves you and cares about you. We pray for our families, loved ones and our community to come to the PRINCE OF PEACE. Let us be contagious with the LOVE of Christ. ARE YOU CONTAGIOUS? Public Notice Continued from Page 3A Pearl Harbor above the water; and it leaks oil all the time. I saw a globule of oil come to the top and start to dissipate in the water. I tried to get a picture, but was a little slow. I was surprised to observe men who did not remove their hats in tribute to those who are entombed there. The memorial is very fitting with a list of the names of those who lie beneath the waves. Leaving the Arizona we were carried to the Battleship Missouri which is a museum piece stationed in the harbor. It was not at Pearl nor was it built when the attack occurred. Rather it is the last battle wagon built. There is no longer any need for this type ship. Modern technology has made the dreadnought obsolete. The significance of the Missouri is that the peace treaty ending the war in the Pacific was signed on its deck. We got a picture of the plague, imbedded in the wooden deck where the signing took place. There was a small red private airplane on display near the battleship. A man and his son had rented it and were taking a Sunday morning flight December 7, 1941 and got among the Japanese Zeros. When he became aware of what was happening he landed safely. There are only a few of these planes left. This was an interesting side note to Pearl Harbor Day. After leaving the Missouri, we were taken to the military cemetery known as the Punch Bowl, since it is located in the dead crater of a volcano. The cemetery very fittingly overlooks Pearl Harbor. Our tour guide for this trip was a very friendly and knowledgeable man who enjoyed his work and who was our guide on the ship. He told us about the real estate values and the business climate of the islands. Then he took us to the seat of government to see the buildings, the capitol and the palace of the last queen of Hawaii. We got to see the plant life and the unusual flowers near the buildings. I also got a picture of Kay standing by her Limo! Ha. Courtesy Photo by e Ctth e Ctth We see Papa beaver almost every night. Since beavers are nocturnal, he comes out about 8:30 p.m. and evidentially works all night. We have seen mama; but we haven’t seen any baby beavers yet. Papa beaver recently found the sunflower plants in the garden next to the pond and has harvested every one of them. There were 18 hybrid Mexican sunflower plants with multiple blooms on each plant that he decided to feed to his family. Now he has decided that the dahlias should be the next thing on the menu. The ornamental pumpkins will probably be next. Thank goodness the watermelons we planted didn’t grow. I will say; the beaver has done a lot to change the condition of our pond. By pushing the silt, mud and old limbs up to reinforce the spillway, he has cleaned up the pond. A lot of the silt caused by decomposing leaves has washed out over the spillway. But, that’s not happening now that it quit raining. We have water plants that need to be cut back around the pond. I have been hoping that the beaver would decide to harvest those. But, he has only chewed into a few of them and a couple of willow trees. I sure wish I could train him to keep the growth around the pond under control. Now, we have a Barred owl and her three babies to deal with! News on that later. Update on Papa Beaver By Jim Butler Owner/Publisher Ben Franklin News By Festus Hagen Monday saw partly cloudy skies with a chance for rain Tuesday and Wednesday and with temperatures in the nineties. Sure is better than in the 100 degree range. Be sure and check on flowers and plants in containers because they need watering almost daily in this heat. Can you believe July is almost over and it will soon be August. Time sure is passing by quickly to me. Wearing a mask is mandatory almost everywhere now so I carry some in my pickup to have them on hand. It’s a little bit of an inconvenience but really no big deal if it means keeping a business open and possibly protecting my fellow man. Hoping this will all pass soon, however a lot of people with the virus continue to recover without to much of a problem. Nobody wants to come down with the virus though, especially with everything else going on right now. This year has been one for the records. I hope we can stop all the bickering and divisiveness at some point and start to heal as a nation. We are blessed in so many ways and there are still so many good people that are being helpful and kind to one another, especially in Delta County. The Delta County Public Library has been closed due to health concerns and we look forward to it’s reopening soon. Several gatherings have been put on hold including the Ben Franklin Supper Club. Happy Birthday to all who have birthdays in July with a couple of them including Brad Turner and L. D. Loftis, both on July 29. Some of the local birthdays for August will include Renee Doan Booth on August 3, Kimber Bogue Black on August 8, Randy Morrison August 9, Dawn Maddox Stewart on August 10, Oleada Morris on August 13 , Darren Braddy on August 18 and Frances Green on August 28. We wish them all lots of happiness, laughter and good health. Continued prayers go out to Pam Conrad as she battles chronic back pain. Dr. Torance Vandygriff continues to wait on a procedure to be done in Dallas that has been put on hold due to the Covid-19 virus. I had heard that Charlotte Moses has been under the weather too and we hope she gets to feeling better very soon. Prayers and thoughts go out to all who are having health problems this year. Well everything is quiet on the home front here in Ben Franklin and we wish you all a great week. Stay safe. July 17, 2020 – Austin, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, Senate Finance Committee Chair Jane Nelson, Vice Chair Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, and House Appropriations Committee Chair Giovanni Capriglione and Vice Chair Oscar Longoria today announced that the State of Texas will allocate $200 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the purchase of eLearning devices and home internet solutions to enable remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic for Texas students that lack connectivity. With this funding, the TEA will purchase and distribute devices, hotspots, routers, and more based on specific needs identified by local education agencies (LEAs).
