Welcome Newsletter 29 th October 19 Year 5, Term 2, Stargazers Welcome to Term 2, Stargazers. This term we will be learning all about the moon, Issac Newton and Tim Peake. In English, we will be creating our own non- chronological report about the moon and we will be writing a science fiction story about space. In Science, we become NASA/ESA Space Engineers and create rockets. We explore the need for an aerodynamic design and we investigate the best shape for the nose and wings to ensure our rocket glides through the air quickly. Term 2, Maths begins with interpreting line graphs and timetables including calculating intervals. We then move on to using a formal method for multiplication and division and finish the term looking at area and perimeter. Maths and English/Topic home learning will be given out on a Friday and collected in on a Wednesday. Year 5, Term 2, Stargazers

Welcome to Term 2, Stargazers. This term we will be learning all about the moon, Issac Newton and Tim Peake. Your child needs to be heard reading, at least 4 times per week, at home as it aids their comprehension, word knowledge and imagination. PE kits must be complete and labelled with your child’s name. These must be in school every day as some weeks our timetable does change. Tracksuits will also be needed for

colder days.The children will be asked again this term to bring in a ‘Pritt Stick’ as these are a valuable resource. Could you please make sure these are ‘Pritt Stick’ as other glue sticks do not work as well and please could you also replace these once your child’s glue is empty. Please provide your child with a named water bottle which will be kept in the classroom for them to access when needed. Break time snacks must be healthy – for example, a cereal bar or piece of fruit.Please continue to encourage your child to practise multiplication and division facts as these help with many calculations and it is very beneficial if your child has a sound knowledge of these. It is also worthwhile practising neat handwriting and presentation as this continues to be very important during Year 5. Miss Flood
