A&H Show steer validation and Major Show steer validation will take place Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 8 am to noon at the San Patricio Livestock Show Grounds (Animal Barn). All steer projects must be validated regardless of which shows you will be entering. Validation does not mean your entered at validation.
Also, if a parent will not be able to attend validation, there is a form that MUST be signed
before the day of validation!
If anybody needs help  finding sheep and goat  projects, call the office to let me  know.  I will be driving the country  looking for animals.

Major Show Turkeys

4-Her’s who plan to exhibit turkeys in any of the above 2012 major shows need to place their orders by June 30th. Poult price is $4.00. Minimum order of 5 and maximum order of 75 must be ordered per family. The arrival date for birds is for sometime in October, 2011.

2011 Texas 4-H Golf Challenge
WHAT: A two-day event that focuses on three main program areas: Rules and
Etiquette of Golf, Golf Course/Turf Grass Management, Sports Nutrition Curriculum

This school will be directed at the development of roping and horsemanship skills of youngsters 12 years old to 18 years (as of August 31, 2010).
The cost of the school will be $300.00 per students plus a $25.00 stall deposit. A maximum of one horse per applicant due to limited number of stalls. This includes meals from Thursday evening through Sunday at breakfast, 3 nights lodging, stall rent, instruction, insurance, a cattle charge and refreshments.
Chaperons may attend. Cost for an adult leader chaperon is $150.00. If chaperon brings a horse, add a $25.00 stall fee.

Home Grown 4-H ..................... McKenna Miller Meeting called to order. Miles Miller read Psalms 27:4 for the bible reading. Ryan Stark led Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge. Levi Stark introduced photography contest judges: Michelle and Kristen. Zach, the extension agent for Nueces, talked about 4-H and competitions. Results of photo competition were announced. Meetings dismissed for summer. Mathis 4-H ................................... Sarah Simmons On May 9,2011, Ariana Barajas called the Mathis 4-H Club's monthly meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Ryan and Darren Sikes led the club in the U.S. Pledge, as well as the Motto, Pledge, and Prayer. Luke Person did the icebreaker. Ariana Barajas gave the inspiration. Ryan Sikes called roll and read minutes. Darren Sikes gave the Treasurer's report. Terra Hogue gave the council report. The club decided to pay $100 for the club's next year's County Council officer training. The club also decided to have hamburgers and hotdogs for the Lake Party, and the club decided that the party should be from 11:00a.m.- 8:00p.m. Ariana Barajas also reminded the club that the Achievement Banquet is on Saturday, August 27,and there will be a dance afterwards. She also read newsletter announcements, and adjourned the meeting at 7:34p.m. Portland 4-H .............................. Jennifer Polasek On May 8, the Portland 4-H was called to order at 3:00 by Emily Stroman. She led us into the pledges, motto and prayer. Mikayla Picha called roll and Meagen Burdock gave the treasurer’s report. New members were introduced. Emily discussed important reminders and events from the monthly newsletter, such as achievement awards, validations, and upcoming camps. We congratulated Alison Smallwood for her participation and awards for the county and district photography contests. We voted for 2011- 2012 club officers. We thanked everyone for their help for the Windfest Parade as it was a nice success and we won 2nd place float. It was voted that we plan our presale carwash for the weekend that school starts in August and we will get tickets out over the summer. Mrs. Garcia spoke about recordbooks and the Anderson Bean Boots. She also reminded everyone that if they were interested, there is still a few days to register for roundup. Refreshments were brought by Emily Stroman. Tyler Wyatt motioned to adjourn the meeting and Taylor Wyatt second it. Taft 4-H ....................................... Corinna Mendez The Taft 4-H Club met on Monday May 9th at the Taft Jr. High Cafeteria. The meeting was called to order by Hailey Robinette, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Jonathan Martinez, 4-H Motto and 4-H Pledge led by Emma Garza then 4-H Prayer led by Katlyn Lopez. Kelsey Robinette called roll and read the minutes from the last meeting. Daniel Cullison gave the Treasurer’s report. Kelsey also gave the County Council report. We welcomed one new member. New officers were elected for the 2011-2012 year; results are as follows: President - Kelsey Robinette, 1st Vice-President – Lindsey Floerke, 2nd Vice-President – Rylie Robertson, Council Delegate – Hailey Robinette, Secretary – Corinna Mendez, Treasurer – Andy Polasek, Historian – Daniel Cullison, Reporter – Allison Vanecek, Parliamentarian – Brian Campion. Our graduating Seniors were recognized. Meeting was adjourned and pizza was served.

Don’t mess up your chances for next years show! To be eligible to compete in the A&H Show in any division (including Homemaking) you must attend at least 60 % of
your regular club meetings. Attendance for the 2012 Show started January 2011. You must also meet UIL academic eligibility requirements by passing all of your school classes.
Pictures are needed for our upcoming Achievement Banquet. Pictures should be from the 2010-
2011 year. You may bring by a photo c-d, bring in your memory card, drop off originals to be scanned & returned or e- m a i l d i g i t a l p h o t o ’ s t o sanpatri@ag.tamu.edu.

Prime Time 2011- This camp is designed especially for youth ages 9-13 with opportunities to meet new friends, develop new skills, and learn how to work with others.
Two sessions of Prime Time ’11 are scheduled.
Prime Time I - July 24-27, 2011 - ages 12-13 Prime Time II - July 27-30, 2011- ages 9-11

The 4-H Center is a fully accredited ACA (American Camping Association) facility and boasts modern, air conditioned dorms, full service dining hall and other amenities.
SpecTra 2011 - This week long camp for teens focuses around project enhancement, career exploration, and personal/professional development.
The Schedule for SpecTra ‘11 will begin on Monday, July 18 and conclude Friday July 22, 2011. Total cost for SpecTra ‘11 is $300.00. This fee includes all lodging, meals, program fees, t-shirt, snacks, and limited accident insurance. Mission Possible: A camp for youth with and without disabilities
July 68, 2011  Texas 4H Conference Center 
A minimum of 10 4H Camp Mentors will be selected to assist with Mission Possible.  4H Camp Mentors reside in the  dorms & participate in all camp activities.  As a Mentor, they may be asked to work individually with a camper needing  special attention or with the entire group.  Mentors will shadow the 4H Conference Center Counselor and be available  to assist in whatever capacity that is needed.  Mission Possible is a unique camping experience for all your; special 
effort is made to recruit youth with special needs.

4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Course

The Texas 4H Livestock Ambassador Program will equip youth  with the knowledge and skills to become ambassadors for Texas  AgriLife Extension Service, the Texas 4H program and animal 
science as it relates to livestock projects. 
A 4H Livestock Ambassador is an outstanding student that has  completed the 4H Livestock Ambassador Short course and is 
willing to assist 4H families in their counties with their livestock  projects. 
M*A*S*H* CAMP 2011
The Medical, Activity, Safety and Health Camp provides an
opportunity for youth to learn about nutrition, physical activity, health and safety, as well as explore a variety of
careers available in the health education field. The three-day, two-night camp will be conducted at
Texas A&M University in College Station, June 28-30.
The camp is open to any youth in Texas that is in the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade.
Camp highlights include: i Learn about MyPyramid
i Daily exercise experiences i Food Challenge experience
i Interaction with hospital and emergency medical personnel
i Full emergency triage experience Camp activities for youth will include: i Learn how to take vital signs
i Wound and injury care i Surgical and emergency room procedures

Welder Wildlife Foundation Sinton, TX
The camp is open to students who have completed the 9th grade or higher. Campers study wildlife and plant identification, hunting as a management tool, species diversity, conservation ethics, wildlife capture and survey techniques, wildlife tracking, predator-prey dynamics, white-tailed deer management, fishing, hunter safety, shooting skills and much more. Campers especially enjoy the opportunity to interact with wildlife professionals and college students majoring in a variety of wildlife and conservation fields. Students considering careers in the natural sciences are strongly encouraged to attend! Applications are available at the Extension Office. Howard College Goat & Lamb Camp Goat Camp: June 5, 6 & 7 2011

Howard College Agriculture Dept.
Fee: $85.00 per person for meals and awards. Each entrant will receive a camp cap or tee shirt. Camp participants must be nine years old or entering the third grade.
DEADLINE: Only the first 200 Paid Entries will be Accepted - Get them in early! No Refunds after May 1st. Participants should make reservations at the area hotel of their choice. Adult supervision required.

2011 AGGIELAND Lamb & Goat Camp
A three day program dedicated to teaching parents and students the fundamentals of feeding, nutrition, health, facilities, selection and showmanship!

Gold Star Award The Gold Star Award is the highest award a 4-H’er can receive at the County level. It is given only one time to a 4-H’er. The purpose of the achievement is to recognize outstanding leadership and contribution to the County 4-H program. To be eligible, one must meet these requirements:
Be a senior 4-H club member (15-19 years old, age at time of application) Must have completed at least three years of 4-H club work including the current year Must be an active 4-H member during the current year Must submit a record book Must submit an Awards Application Form with the record book Must complete an interview
Silver Star Award The Silver Star Award is equivalent to the Gold Star but will be awarded to an intermediate aged 4-H member (11-13 years old, age as of Aug. 31, 2010). The requirements are the same as above.
Bronze Star Award The Bronze Star Award is equivalent to the Silver and Gold Star but will be awarded to a junior aged 4-H member (8-10 years old, age as of Aug. 31, 2010). The requirements are the same as above except the member must have two or more years in the 4-H program.
Rookie Girl and Rookie Boy Award This award will go to first year 4-H members based on involvement in club and project work. Member must submit a record book for competition and complete an interview to be eligible. Juniors, intermediates, and senior members are eligible.
“I Dare You” Award This award will go to 4-H members based on their leadership and commitment to community service. Member must submit a record book for competition and complete an interview to be eligible. Any youth between the ages 15-18 who have completed their freshman year in high school is eligible.
County Medals Every member who completes a record book for competition will be awarded a county medal. A 4-H club member must meet these requirements:
(a) Members must be currently enrolled in 4-H Club work (b) Attend at least 75% of the regular 4-H meeting (c) Must have a project (d) Participate in 4-H club activities (e) Complete his or her record on respective project and turn in a complete record book into the
County Extension office for County Record Book Competition. Incentive Awards 4-H’ers must carry the same project 2 years to be eligible for an incentive award. These winners will be determined by their growth, leadership and development as shown in the record. A 4-H’er can only receive an incentive award one time in one particular project. A 4-H Club member to be eligible to receive the 4-H Incentive Award must meet these requirements:
