Lent: Preparation for the Sonrise

Lenten Coin Folders

This Lent we offer again the opportunity to make a special

contribution through the discipline of daily remembering God’s love for us in Christ by placing a quarter into a coin folder. We ask you to consider participation in this Lenten Tradition. Coin folders are available on the credenza in the front hall.

What can I "give up" for Lent,  I can ....

GIVE UP complaining, focus on gratitude.GIVE UP harsh judgements, think kind

thoughts.GIVE UP worry, trust God to provide.GIVE UP discouragement, be full of hope for

myself and others.GIVE UP bitterness, turn to forgiveness for

myself and others.GIVE UP hatred, return good for evil.GIVE UP anger, be more patient with

myself and others.GIVE UP pettiness, become mature.GIVE UP jealousy, pray for trust.GIVE UP gossiping, control my tongue.GIVE UP sin, turn to virtue.GIVE UP giving up, persevere instead.

Bob Hamilton and his wife Janet live in Danville and will be our Supply Priest on the second Sunday of each month.

Bob is the Director of the Chaplaincy Department for Cone Health in Greensboro. He has been in this role since 1979. Bob, a native of New York state,  is canonically resident in the Diocese of North Carolina.

Following a few years in parish ministry he did his Clinical training residencies for Chaplaincy at Duke Medical Center and at Delaware State Psychiatric Hospital. While Chaplaincy has been his primary work, he has served in many parishes most recently at St. Andrew's in Greensboro where he served primarily on Sundays for 25 years.

Bob and Janet have three daughters and two sons, all of whom are married, and two grandsons. Janet is the Executive Director for Commonwealth Home Nursing and Hospice. They love Myrtle Beach and enjoy shag dancing as often as they can.

Christ Church has been very fortunate to have Mother Helen covering our congregation for the past two and a half years. We have recently been able to add 2 more supply priests to able to offer Holy Communion every Sunday.

Below are brief bio’s for Father Hamilton & Father Heying. Please make them feel welcome and come meet them in person.

Father R Christopher Heying is the Rector at Emmanuel Church in Chatham and will be our Supply Priest on the fourth Sunday of each month.

Father Heying and his wife, daughter and two sons moved to Chatham in 2012 from Forest, Virginia, where he was the Rector of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church for eight years.

He received his Master of Divinity degree f rom Nashotah House Theolog ica l Seminary in Nashotah, Wisconsin, a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Texas, and has also held Vicar and Curate positions in Texas, Tennessee, and New York City."

On Sunday, February 15th the church celebrated with Lucille Baynes on another year younger. They had a nice spread of finger foods and a beautiful cake to enjoy. Of course what birthday wouldn’t be complete without a rendition of “Happy Birthday”. Lucille looked beautiful and not a day older!

Happy Birthday Lucille!

The ECW met for their monthly meeting on Sunday, February 15th. The ladies are gearing up for a busy Spring. They are planning to help host the Seder Supper to by held at church on Thursday, April 2 before the Maundy Thursday service.

The ECW is also planning a Fish Fry fundraiser on Friday April 24th. Jackie Wilson had graciously offered to help the women with the cooking. Be on the lookout for sign up sheets to help or attend these events.

Please get the word out and tell others about these great events. The more the merrier! If you have any questions please see the ECW President, Janis.

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt after the Easter Sunday service on April 5th for the kids.

Please bring in any candy or eggs that you can donate for the egg hunt by Sunday, March 29th.

The children always enjoy this part of the Easter Day service. We may even have a visit from the Easter Bunny!

February 1, 2015

Dear Christ Church Family, I would like to say thank you to all for your hard work and loyalty to our Church in 2014. We are no long a Parish in transition. We have issued a call to Father Christopher Heying, who also serves as Rector of Emmanuel in Chatham. This will be a shared ministry between our two churches. There is still a “process” in place and as such we will continue to have to be patient and faithful. I will address the salient points in my opening address. Until this process is completed our search committee will remain in place on an “inactive” status. I would like to thank Bob Chenery and the committee for having worked diligently during our transition process. I would also like to publicly recognize Rev. Canon Michael Speer-Jones who has been and will continue to Shepherd us through this process. We are still fortunate to have Mother Helen as our “supply priest in residence.” She has been a faithful servant and has many times gone above and beyond the call. I am also pleased to complement the women of our church as reflected in the continued good works of the ECW, Alter Guild and Kristi Ross who is “principal” in our Sunday school program and with John editors in chief of our newsletter, also many thanks to Gary Sullivan who continues to ferret out organists for our Church. Special thanks go out to Marty Wilson and Kathy Haney who are acting secretaries for Christ Church and also to John Benz who keeps us squeaky clean. Attendance has held steady with an average of 32 parishioners per service. Pledging in 2014 was $555.00 shy of our goal of $43,462, with total giving of $47,912. To the entire congregation I would like to thank you for your time talent and treasure. Please continue to be counted in our ranks. Make attendance whether at the Eucharist or Morning Prayer part of you 2015 resolution. May the Peace of the Lord be always with You, Shaun C. Anderson Outgoing Senior Warden

Please remember to check that ALL the doors are locked when you are leaving the church. Don't assume that someone else will do it. Several d o o r s h a v e b e e n

inadvertently left unlocked, fortunately we have not had an incident.

We are still leaving a few of the interior & exterior lights on for security purposes but please be careful and use common sense if you are visiting the church after hours.

Just a reminder i f you haven’t already submitted a 2015 Stewardship Pledge please consider making at least a smal l financ ia l commitment. The pledges allow the vestry to plan a budget and help plan for any

needed maintenance on the church. There is a card attached that you can put in the collection plate or mail in to the church…

Deadline for the April Newsletter isMarch 23, 2015. Please send all news to

[email protected] or give to John & Kristi Ross.
