SEPM Migration

• Upgrading SEP 11 SEPM to 12.1.2 (RU2) SEPM fully supported

– All settings, group structure, policies are maintained

• 12.1.2 (RU2) SEPM can manage all version of SEP 11 clients

• IIS no longer used – only using Apache for webservices

• Overall scalability/architecture roughly the same as SEP 11

• Pre flight checklist

• Replication between sites needs to be disabled

Client - Side by side install

• SEP 12.1.2 (RU2) uses an MSI based, Side by Side, Replace on Reboot installation.

• The MSI portion of the install is greatly reduced from previous. It basically writes the files to a new folder, and starts the Symantec Install Service (SIS).

– Fresh install: the SIS will perform the remaining tasks of the installer and start the product.

– Migration: the SIS will wait until the next reboot. At reboot, the SIS code will disable the old product and enable the new product. (Replace on Reboot)

– After the new product is running, the Replace on Reboot uninstaller (RoRu) will remove the old product.

• Binaries install to a versioned silo in %ProgramFiles%

• Product data will install to a versioned silo in the %ProgramData%
