A behavioral model is contrasted with other historical models of how the family is involved in addiction. Participants are introduced to the happiness survey and areas of change, behavioral contracting, strengthening couple communication skills, increasing exchange of positive reinforcement, and strategies for problem-solving and conflict resolution. Also considered are screening for, preventing, and addressing family violence.Working with Adolescents: Treatment and Prevention Discuss the differences between adolescent and adult substance use/abuse, and review evidence-based approaches for working with adolescents. Relationships with parenting style and parental substance abuse are considered. Treatment methods considered are family therapies, multisystemic therapy, and adolescent CRA (ACRA). Additionally, a program for working with family members to engage resistant teens into treatment will be introduced: community reinforcement and family training CRAFT. A what works review is included, examining the evidence base for various approaches to prevention. 27. Clinical Supervision Prepare for the often-neglected but important process of clinical supervision. Methods and styles of clinical supervision are reviewed, as are legal responsibilities of the clinical supervisor.
