SUMMARY: Background Information: The proposed nine story research, education and outpatient services structure is located adjacent and connected to the existing J. D. Armistead Optometry building and Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 1. Design Features: The exterior of the structure will be clad with architectural precast concrete units and connections capable of withstanding the design loads required by code. A portion of the south, north, east and west elevations of the building will consist of aluminum stick type glazed curtain wall with interior and exterior exposed metal framing. The curtain wall glazing will be 1” thick insulating unit, clear glass with low-E coating on the second surface. Aluminum framed windows will be high performance with the glazing system described above. A major design feature of the structure will be Texas Limestone at the pedestrian entrance to the building, similar to the detail used on the Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 1. The entrances to the building will be aluminum doors and storefronts. All materials proposed in this project are consistent with the campus exterior materials palette. 7.
