The mediterranean climate

It is the most common climate in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. There are three types of this climate:

-Typical Mediterranean climate-Continental or interior Mediterranean climate-Dry Mediterranean climate

Typical Mediterranean climate. It occurs in areas near the Mediterranean Sea, in Extremadura and western Andalucía. Their temperatures are mild in winter and high in summer. Precipitations are little, especially in summer, but there is sometimes heavy rain in autumn that can cause flooding.

• Continental or interior Mediterranean climate. It occurs in the Central Plateau, the Ebro depression, inland Cataluña and northeastern Andalucía.The temperatures are high in summer and low in winter. Precipitations are little, but more frequent in spring and autumn. It can snow in winter

Dry Mediterranean climate. It occurs in the southeast of the peninsula. Their temperatures are mild in winter and high in summer. Precipitations are little.

The oceanic , mountain and subtropical climate

In Spain we also find other climates:•Oceanic climate•Mountain climate•Subtropical climate

Oceanic climate. It occurs in the north and northwest of the Peninsula, near the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Temperatures are mild because of the proximity to the sea, although they are lower in winter. Precipitations are frequent all the year, especially in winter.

Mountain climate. It occurs in areas above 1,500 metres. Temperatures are cool in summer and very low in winter. Precipitations are frequent, and it usually snows in winter.

Subtropical climate. It is typical of the Canary Islands. Temperatures are mild all the year and precipitations are little, but they are most abundant in the mountains and some northern islands.
