Name the three theme vocabulary words and their meanings?
WHAT IS HERITAGE?
USING SYNONYMS Synonyms are words that have similar or the
same meaning as other words. Using synonyms helps readers relate new words to other words they might already know.

AUTHOR’S PURPOSE An author’s purpose is the reasons for writing,
such as to persuade, inform, entertain, or express ideas.
An author does not usually state a purpose for writing. Readers must use clues in the text to figure out the important ideas.
Look through the theme reader to identify clues. What does the author want you to learn? Why did the author write this? What clues help you determine the author’s
purpose?
ADJECTIVE SUFFIXES
A suffix is a word part that is added to the end of a base word. Suffixes can be added to many words to form adjectives, or words that describe nouns.
