Important Vocab
• biodiversity= the number and variety of different plants, animals, and other living things in a particular place
• carrying capacity=the total number of people or animals that can live in an area without damage to the environment
• conservation=the protection of natural things such as animals, plants, forests etc. to prevent them being damaged or destroyed

• globalization= the idea that the world is developing into a single economy and culture, primarily as a result of very large businesses becoming more and more powerful
• indigenous people=the original/first people that have always been living in an area
• mass tourism=traditional, large-scale tourism

• potable water= water that is safe for drinking
• subsistence economy=economy based solely upon producing enough food to feed local people, and/or the things absolutely necessary for life and nothing more
• zoning=an official system of choosing areas to be used for particular purposes, such as building houses or stores

What is a proposal?
• Definition: (n) a plan or suggestion that is given formally to an official person or group
• Examples: 1) Student Union’s proposal to WFLMS Admin about backpacks in classrooms; 2) research proposal; 3) small business proposal

Remember
• A proposal is a formal type of writing
• Audience is usually a business, or someone in control of something
• Use formal language
• The purpose of a proposal to suggest some form of action – what do you want your audience to do?

• These should each talk about a different issue in the proposal.
