The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has said that the University supported one of its staff members

and a member of the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Mr. Paul Akingbola, to become World Speaker Champion in Germany because it was an opportunity to promote the image of the country.

Prof. Ambali stated this last Friday (April 24, 2015) when he received the National President of the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Mr. Seun Osikalu, in his office. The Vice-Chancellor commended the organisation for its dedication, adding that he was impressed with its vision and goals.

“What you see with Unilorin JCI is a prototype of our students. Our students are very unique and the Students Union here is leading by example. Their officers are well behaved, making the management happy”, he noted.

Prof. Ambali maintained that the future of the country is assured with the kind of leadership that the JCI is providing. He, therefore, commended the organisation for doing so much without state funding.

Stressing the need to raise Nigerians that will not be corrupt but who will use state and personal resources to better their community, the Vice-Chancellor tasked the national and Unilorin chapter of the JCI to continue to advance the knowledge of making impact among the young people in the country.

Prof. Ambali also tasked the Unilorin JCI to keep up the good work, noting that they are giving the University a good image. He also advocated for the extension of the 40 years upper age limit membership requirement of the JCI to accommodate more people who have experience and access to resources.

The JCI President commended the Vice-Chancellor for the support the JCI Unilorin continues to receive from the University management. He revealed that the Unilorin JCI would be having its community impact programme by donating educational and support materials to an already identified school.

On funding for the organisation, the President said that the JCI gets funds from partners and private contributions of its members. He promised to bring some of their partners to invest in the University of Ilorin.

Mr. Osikalu was accompanied on the visit by the out-going JCI Unilorin President, Miss Abdul-Razzaq Belqis; Olatunji Oyeyemi, Adedokun Henry, Babatunde Omole, Lanre Salam and Bayo Morakinyo.
