Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful break over the school holidays. It was great to see all the students again yesterday. We had a fantastic first day back and it was good to see the students engaged in their learning. The Junior Primary class created holiday jars and wrote ‘recipes’ for the perfect holiday. The Upper Primary Class created some fantastic holiday collages and explored elements of ‘good writing’. We also welcomed back Janet Beard to the school who is now back in the role of Pastoral Care Worker for the rest of this term.
Thanks to Miss Anderson for organising our fun end of term celebrations on the last day of term. Thank you also to Sasha and Sofia for coming in and running one of the activities with the students. Students escaped to France with Mr Rowley and Miss Anderson and ate croissants while they painted the Eifel Tower. Then they flew over to Japan and made sushi for lunch with Mrs Luke before heading over to the Philippines with Sasha and Sophia to create lanterns.
Maddie’s perfect holiday involved swimming with the fish at the
aquarium in Perth and Jarley said the best way to have fun on the
holidays was to go and watch a movie.

Positive Behaviour For Learning
Behaviour Focus: I respect the teachers right to teach
and the students rights to learn.
“It is important to respect the teachers right to teach so
that the teachers can teach you and everyone else. It is respectful to listen to
the teacher and support the teachers. If you don’t respect the teachers right
to teach you might not know what to do and you won’t learn anything and
you won’t be showing respect.” Ben Baines
“It is important to let other students have the chance to learn in the
classroom otherwise they won’t learn anything and they will not get smart
and you wouldn’t learn anything if you were always interrupting.” Ashlee
Phillis
Writing Focus for Term 4
“Good writing is where you use describing words,
punctuation, direct speech and paragraphing. Yesterday we
looked two other kids work. We had to correct their mistakes
and work out what areas they needed to improve in. The first
one was really bad because there was no full stops and capital
letters, it was not edited and there were no paragraphs.
The second one was edited and checked over to the students
best ability and written with paragraphs and punctuation. It
was also written with describing words and conjunctions.
Good writing is not about how many pages you write. It is
about how you write it!”
Katelyn Rynne and Mitch Bellenger.
Mitch and Jed working out what elements the student
needs to improve on.
Katie and Yasmin using a
key to work out what the
student had done really
well and what areas they
needed to work on in the
future.
WELCOME BACK JANET
Hi everyone, it feels so wonderful to be back at Ungarra Primary School
in the role of Pastoral Care Worker. It was great to see all the children
and staff again when I arrived on Monday and I was warmly welcomed
by all.
During my time away I always enjoyed reading the newsletters and
keeping up with what everyone was doing.
I’m looking forward to kitchen lessons and hopefully some more
sewing with some of the older students, supporting children in the
classrooms and being available to chat to in the yard.
At this stage I will be in the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and
am always available for support and care for students, families and
staff. Please feel free to contact me or drop in for a chat.

KIDZ BIZ—WEEK 1 TERM 4 2017
Thank you to those parents who have already given me their certificates. If your child attends in the
afternoons and you still need to do the training, here is the link to the online Responding to Abuse and
Neglect training . https://rantrainingvolunteers.e3learning.com.au/
The kids were absolutely rapt with our new
diggers and enjoyed putting them together
with Kyrie and Erina who helped out for the
afternoon.
Term 4 “Creatures Around Us”
To celebrate “Our Body” we finished by using our limbs and enjoying a fun obstacle course on what was a glorious day in week
10. It was a good chance to use our LIMBS which was our final body part. Tiffany Hibble came and talked to parents about
common childhood illnesses which was quite fitting as unbeknown to us it was National Pharmacy Day.

Beautiful weather greeted us this week for
the return of Playcentre and we began intro-
ducing our theme of “Creatures Around Us”.
Parent feedback suggests that the older chil-
dren in particular have really taken in our
STEM program. Tex is making regular com-
ment about the amygdala in his brain and
how he’s feeling.
On Monday, children made plaster casts of
their hands which will be painted next week
and I will buy more plaster for those who
were not there. They will make great
Christmas gifts.
In week 3 (30/10/17) we aim to have a
whole group photo which will be taken
at 11am. I hope as many of you can be
there as possible.
