OVERALL GOAL

The overall goal of the UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry, the FAO European Forestry Commission, their related bodies and the Teams of Specialists is to sustainably manage and use UNECE-region forests so that they provide products and ecosystem services to benefit society

Collection, validation and dissemination of statistics on forest resources, functions and services, sustainable forest management and contribution of the forest sector in a green economy in the UNECE region:

• Integrated repository• Data on pan-European indicators

• international data providers• database

• Information on forest policies, institutions and instruments • Data on the forest sector workforce



Analysis and assessment of state of forests and sustainability of forest management; and monitoring the role of the forest sector in the green economy in the UNECE region:

• FRA and CFRQ: regional contribution to the final report• SoEF 2015: output tables, draft report (quantitative indicators) • Pilot assessment of SFM• Concept notes for:

• Study on the role of the forest sector in a green economy • Report on forests ownership



Cooperation and support to international processes in sustainable forest management, including regional Criteria and Indicators processes:

EUROPEAN FOREST WEEK – THE ORIGIN


EFW 2013 - OBJECTIVES

Objectives:

• To promote the role of the forest-based sector in “greening” the economy: improving human well-being and social equity, while reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities;

• Forestry at the core of the sustainability concept;

• Raise awareness on the good health of forests in Europe;

• Increase the visibility of the forest-based sector and its current and potential contributions to a sustainable economy;

• Engage other sectors in a participatory dialogue on forest related issues.
