The mission of UNC Dance Marathon is to overcome childhood illness by providing major support for the
medical surgical and emotional care of the patients and families served by North Carolina Childrenrsquos Hospita

ommittee took over the Pit forDancer Recruitment Week toncourage students to sign upuring the 24-hour UNC Dance
Marathon March 21-22 2014More than 2020 people signed

f the Morale and Recruitmentommittee this total exceeded all
f her expectations for DRWShe said that she is proud of her
ommittee for being informed andnergetic throughout the weeks well as for taking advantage
of opportunities to share UNC-DMrsquosmission with the student body
ldquoIt was cool to see the communityrsquosshift in perspective towards UNC-DMrdquosaid Krivanek ldquoWe really tried to pushthe cause-centric side of recruitmentand show people the why behind all ofour effortsrdquo
This year the Morale andRecruitment committee changed afew of their recruitment activitieswhich Krivanek believes contributedto the weekrsquos success
For example rather than goingfrom dorm to dorm known asldquodorm stormingrdquo members of the
committee instead used other tacticslike handing out candy and waterbottles in order to engage withstudents and start conversationsabout UNC-DM
Senior Chris Felix member of theMorale and Recruitment committee captain of the ldquoShreking Ballrdquo danceteam agreed that DRW was successf

being able to see everybody from committee and getting other seniofriends to sign up for the marathosaid Felix
Felix said that he is excited for tupcoming Motivator and VolunteerRecruitment Week Jan 21-24 sinceboth groups of people play such aninstrumental part in the Marathon

eceive funding for a serviceroject of their choice Jones is
mplementing a project for Heelrints Never Fade his own personalrganization honoring fallen Tareels Ballard is putting the fundsoward a fundraiser to create morecholarships for children attendingamp Kesem a summer camp run byuke and UNC students for kids withparent who has or has had cancerBoth Jones and Ballard have

partakes in and it is sure to be justas successful for you You can go byyourself with friends and family or
with a small group of dancers

everyone $5 to get in Itrsquos a cheapmeal and you can put all of theprots into your dancer fund
Get sponsored Have friends
and family give you a sumof money for each of the 24hours you are dancing
Do ridiculous dares for smallsums of money Do you havethat friend that always says
rsquoll give you $5 if you eat thisrdquoake them up on that offer It mighte gross but itrsquos for a good cause

think about children passing away it iscritical to have people who are trainedto help families in these situations
She said ldquoBy continuing tofund the team we are able tohelp improve the quality of life ofseriously ill patients and help their
family members cope with lifewithout their loved onerdquo
