POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING - PBL Our Core Values across the school are to promote the school community to be SAFE, SUPPORTIVE and RESPECTFUL.

KINDERGARTEN STUDENTSWe would like to introduce our Kindergarten students for 2019. The first day of school is always a bit scary and exciting, but our new students have settled in well.

COMMUNICATION REMINDER

Update your details pleasePlease ensure your details have been updated at the school if any changes have been made since last year. Itis vitally important that we have your up to date phone numbers, addresses and emergency contact numbers.

CommunicationAt UPS we communicate in various ways with our school community. These are some of the ways1. Teachers are happy to assist with any question about your child and programs that are happening in theclassroom. Please make an appointment to see them if possible as they are generally busy before class.2. A Formal School Report is sent out Terms 2 and 4 with a formal Parent/Teacher Interview in Term 2.3. A school newsletter is emailed to all parents once a fortnight and hard copies are provided for those who wishto receive it this way.4. Notes. We regularly send out notes for different events and information for the school.5. Facebook. We have an Ulmarra Public School Facebook page where photos and general information areposted. Within this page in ‘Groups’ is the ‘Ulmarra Public School Communication Group’. We post our notes thathave been sent home in this area. (Please note that we do not monitor, answer or contribute to ‘Ulmarra PublicSchool Community’ page. This is NOT our page.)6. Phone calls. We will ring parents when necessary to discuss matters. You are more than welcome to ring theschool with any enquiries and questions you may have. Please do not discuss matters with other parents withoutensuring you have all the correct information. At times people make assumptions concerning different eventsand decisions made across the school which can cause anxiety and unrest with others. Incorrect remarks andslanderous comments go against the Parents School Community Charter which all parents have been given. Please ask questions because we are happy to answer all of your concerns.

CLARENCE VALLEY CONSERVATORIUM MUSIC LESSONSLuke Gough is one of the more experienced and professional guitarists in the Clarence Valley. He is work-ing with stu-dents of Ulmarra Public School developing their musicianship and performance skills on acous-tic guitar and keyboard. Lessons are scheduled on Tuesday during school time. To be involved in this great program all you require is to fill out a CV Con enrolment form and have your own guitar and /or a keyboard at home. Those returning students will need to re-enrol and new students can also apply. These forms will be available from Luke, the school office and are also available on our website [email protected].

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOLIf your child arrives at school after the bell please go to the Front Office first to receive a late slip for class. Please remember that if your child is absent from school due to illness or other reasons, the school needs to be informed within 7 days regarding the nature of the absence. A note or phone call is all it takes. If you need to take your child out of school for family, travel or other reasons, please let their teacher know beforehand. Planned leave of 5 or more days requires that an application be completed and approved.

CANTEEN - “THE GREAT ULMARRA BITE”Hi Parents!

Welcome to the first “The Great Ulmarra Bite – Canteen News” of the year. I’m looking forward to taking care of the canteen this year and would love to take the opportunity to thank our outgoing coordinators, Tania Watts and Katie Sullivan for the absolutely sensational job they have done. We’re also saying good-bye to a few trusty volunteers who are taking a very well-earned break this year and welcoming a few more. And of course, a big thank you to our continuing volunteers!

New Menu

Accompanying this newsletter is an updated menu. You’ll note a few changes namely prices, new items and that we’re losing a few old items. As the NSW Government continues their admirable push towards a healthy lifestyle in all areas, our menu will continue to evolve. Our aim is to still provide yummy treats for our kids (and a day off making lunches for mums and dads!) while focusing on healthy eating. All sugges-tions, complaints and observations are welcome, and I am happy to answer any questions regarding the changes.

Allergies

Our canteen seeks to be all-inclusive. If your child has allergies or food intolerances and would still like the opportunity to purchase their lunch at our canteen, please let me know. We will work with you as best we can.

Volunteering and Donating

New volunteers are always, always welcome. Working at the canteen gives you a chance to get to know other parents, observe your children in their school environment and to get to know your child’s friends. Younger siblings are welcome to accompany you and you don’t have to stay all day. Even a couple of hours is an awesome help. Morning tea and lunch happily provided.

If you can’t volunteer but are still keen to help; donations of food would be fantastic. Please ask me what we need at the time. Even buying 2L of milk once a term is a huge help.

Environment

Another focus this year is to phase out as many single use items (such as disposable cutlery, plastic straws, glad wrap, etc) as possible. In their place, we will be using washable and biodegradable items wherever we can. A tub will be available under the COLA during Recess and Lunch for kids to chuck their washable items in, so they don’t have to bring them all the way back to the canteen. Feedback on this initiative is especially welcomed!

I am so excited about what this year will bring. I can’t wait to work with, chat with or wave to you soon. I’m available to chat on: 0448854554 or send me an email at: [email protected] .

Have a great year!

Ali
