According to Bishop Nikolai Velimirovch in The Prologue from Ohrid
This saint famed throughout the entire world today was the only son of his eminent and wealthy parents
Theophanes and Nona citizens of Patara in Lycia They dedicated to God the only son He gave them St
Nicholas was instructed in the spiritual life by his uncle Nicholas Bishop of Patara (see below) and became a
monk at New Sion a monastery founded by his uncle On the death of his parents Nicolas distributed all the
property he inherited to the poor and kept nothing back for himself As a priest in Patara he was known for his
charitable works fulfilling the Lords words Let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth (Matt 63)
When he embraced a life of solitude and silence thinking to live in that way until his death a voice from on
high came to him Nicholas set about your work among the people if you desire to receive a crown from Me
Immediately after that by Gods wondrous providence he was chosen as archbishop of the city of Myra in
Lycia Merciful wise and fearless Nicolas was a true shepherd to his flock He was cast into prison during the
persecutions of Diocletian and Maximian but even there continued to instruct the people in the Law of God He
was present at the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 325 and in his zeal struck Arius with his hand For
this act he was removed from the Council and from his episcopal duties until some of the chief hierarchs had a
vision of our Lord Christ and His most holy Mother showing their sympathy with Nicholas
This wonderful saint was a defender of the truth of God and was ever a spirited champion of justice among the
people On two occasions he saved three men from undeserved sentences of death Merciful trustworthy and
loving right he walked among the people like an angel of God People considered him a saint even during his
lifetime and invoked his aid when in torment or distress He would appear both in dreams and in reality to those
who called upon him for help responding speedily to them whether close at hand or far away His face would
shine with light as Moses did aforetime and his mere presence among people would bring solace peace and
goodwill In old age he sickened of a slight illness and went to his rest in the Lord after a life full of labour and
fruitful toil He now enjoys eternal happiness in the Kingdom of heaven continuing to help the faithful on earth
by his miracles and to spread the glory of God He entered into rest on December 6th 343
St Nicholas is considered the patron saint of many things including travelers and the poor He is renowned
around the world in many cultures for his abundance of miracles

My confession
I am a Jew and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up bejeweled trees Christmas trees I donrsquot feel threatened I donrsquot feel discriminated against Thatrsquos what they are Christmas trees It doesnrsquot bother me a bit when people say ldquoMerry Christmasrdquo to me I donrsquot think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto In fact I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year It doesnrsquot bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my home in Malibu If people want a nativity scene itrsquos just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away I donrsquot like getting pushed around for being a Jew and I donrsquot think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around period I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country I canrsquot find it in the Constitution and I donrsquot like it being shoved down my throat Or maybe I can put it another way where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we arenrsquot allowed to worship God as we understand Him I guess thatrsquos a sign that Irsquom getting old too But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where is the America we once knew went to In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh this is a little different This is not intended to be a joke itrsquos not funny itrsquos intended to get you thinking Billy Grahamrsquos daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ldquoHow could God let something like this happenrdquo (regarding all the hurricanes of late) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response She said ldquoI believe God is deeply saddened by this just as we are but for years wersquove been telling God to get out of our schools to get out of our government and to get out of our lives And being the gentleman He is I believe He has calmly backed out How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alonerdquo In light of recent eventshellip terroristrsquos attacks school shootings etc I think it started when Madeleine Murray OrsquoHare (she was murdered her body found recently) complained she didnrsquot want prayer in our schools and we said OK Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school The Bible says thou shalt not kill thou shalt not steal and love your neighbor as yourself And we said OK Then Dr Benjamin Spock said we shouldnrsquot spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spockrsquos son committed suicide) We said an expert should know what hersquos talking about And we said OK Now wersquore asking ourselves why our children have no conscience why they donrsquot know right from wrong and why it doesnrsquot bother them to kill strangers their classmates and themselves Probably if we think about it long and hard enough we can figure it out I think it has a great deal to do with ldquoWE REAP WHAT WE SOWrdquo Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the worldrsquos going to hell Funny how we believe what the newspapers say but question what the Bible says Funny how you can send lsquojokesrsquo through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord people think twice about sharing Funny how lewd crude vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace
Are you laughing Funny how when you forward this message you will not send it to many on your address list because yoursquore not sure what they believe or what they will think of you for sending it
Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us
Pass it on if you think it has merit If not then just discard ithellip no one will know you did But if you discard this thought process donrsquot sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in My Best Regards Honestly and respectfully

My confession
I am a Jew and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up bejeweled trees Christmas trees I donrsquot feel threatened I donrsquot feel discriminated against Thatrsquos what they are Christmas trees It doesnrsquot bother me a bit when people say ldquoMerry Christmasrdquo to me I donrsquot think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto In fact I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year It doesnrsquot bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my home in Malibu If people want a nativity scene itrsquos just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away I donrsquot like getting pushed around for being a Jew and I donrsquot think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around period I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country I canrsquot find it in the Constitution and I donrsquot like it being shoved down my throat Or maybe I can put it another way where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we arenrsquot allowed to worship God as we understand Him I guess thatrsquos a sign that Irsquom getting old too But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where is the America we once knew went to In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh this is a little different This is not intended to be a joke itrsquos not funny itrsquos intended to get you thinking Billy Grahamrsquos daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ldquoHow could God let something like this happenrdquo (regarding all the hurricanes of late) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response She said ldquoI believe God is deeply saddened by this just as we are but for years wersquove been telling God to get out of our schools to get out of our government and to get out of our lives And being the gentleman He is I believe He has calmly backed out How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alonerdquo In light of recent eventshellip terroristrsquos attacks school shootings etc I think it started when Madeleine Murray OrsquoHare (she was murdered her body found recently) complained she didnrsquot want prayer in our schools and we said OK Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school The Bible says thou shalt not kill thou shalt not steal and love your neighbor as yourself And we said OK Then Dr Benjamin Spock said we shouldnrsquot spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spockrsquos son committed suicide) We said an expert should know what hersquos talking about And we said OK Now wersquore asking ourselves why our children have no conscience why they donrsquot know right from wrong and why it doesnrsquot bother them to kill strangers their classmates and themselves Probably if we think about it long and hard enough we can figure it out I think it has a great deal to do with ldquoWE REAP WHAT WE SOWrdquo Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the worldrsquos going to hell Funny how we believe what the newspapers say but question what the Bible says Funny how you can send lsquojokesrsquo through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord people think twice about sharing Funny how lewd crude vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace
Are you laughing Funny how when you forward this message you will not send it to many on your address list because yoursquore not sure what they believe or what they will think of you for sending it
Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us
Pass it on if you think it has merit If not then just discard ithellip no one will know you did But if you discard this thought process donrsquot sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in My Best Regards Honestly and respectfully

I am a Jew and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up bejeweled trees Christmas trees I donrsquot feel threatened I donrsquot feel discriminated against Thatrsquos what they are Christmas trees It doesnrsquot bother me a bit when people say ldquoMerry Christmasrdquo to me I donrsquot think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto In fact I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year It doesnrsquot bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my home in Malibu If people want a nativity scene itrsquos just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away I donrsquot like getting pushed around for being a Jew and I donrsquot think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around period I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country I canrsquot find it in the Constitution and I donrsquot like it being shoved down my throat Or maybe I can put it another way where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we arenrsquot allowed to worship God as we understand Him I guess thatrsquos a sign that Irsquom getting old too But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where is the America we once knew went to In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh this is a little different This is not intended to be a joke itrsquos not funny itrsquos intended to get you thinking Billy Grahamrsquos daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ldquoHow could God let something like this happenrdquo (regarding all the hurricanes of late) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response She said ldquoI believe God is deeply saddened by this just as we are but for years wersquove been telling God to get out of our schools to get out of our government and to get out of our lives And being the gentleman He is I believe He has calmly backed out How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alonerdquo In light of recent eventshellip terroristrsquos attacks school shootings etc I think it started when Madeleine Murray OrsquoHare (she was murdered her body found recently) complained she didnrsquot want prayer in our schools and we said OK Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school The Bible says thou shalt not kill thou shalt not steal and love your neighbor as yourself And we said OK Then Dr Benjamin Spock said we shouldnrsquot spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spockrsquos son committed suicide) We said an expert should know what hersquos talking about And we said OK Now wersquore asking ourselves why our children have no conscience why they donrsquot know right from wrong and why it doesnrsquot bother them to kill strangers their classmates and themselves Probably if we think about it long and hard enough we can figure it out I think it has a great deal to do with ldquoWE REAP WHAT WE SOWrdquo Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the worldrsquos going to hell Funny how we believe what the newspapers say but question what the Bible says Funny how you can send lsquojokesrsquo through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord people think twice about sharing Funny how lewd crude vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace
