СВЯТЕ ПРИЧАСТЯ – ЯК ЧАСТО ПРИСТУПАТИ Іван Верстюк Одним із негативних наслідків переважання в Українській Православній Церкві аскетичного типу благочестя є той факт, що регулярне прийняття Святого Причастя на сьогоднішній день притаманне лише священнослужителям. Віряни переважно утримуються від участі в Таїнстві Євхаристії, пояснюючи це повчаннями старців та монахів-аскетів. Звичайно, вони інколи все ж причащаються Тіла та Крові Господніх, але лише на великі свята і вважають це чимось другорядним в своєму духовному житті. І в цьому, я глибоко переконаний, полягає величезна проблема нашої Церкви. Свята Євхаристія в жодному разі не є якимось додатком до богослужіння, молитви чи правил благочестя. Навпаки, вона є духовним центром християнського життя, його освячуючим ядром, спасенним чудом, джерелом радості й натхнення. Тільки регулярна участь в причасті Євхаристійній Жертві може обожити людину, зробити її вірним виконавцем Божої Волі, служителем Найвищої Істини. (http://amvon.info)

FROM THE SCRIPTURES The Church calls us to Holy Communion frequently because the Holy Spirit has taught Her that "Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you have no life in You" (John 6:53). FROM THE SCRIPTURES Then Jesus says to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you do not have life in yourselves. Under the auspices of Ukrainian Canadian Congress Saskatchewan, our province’s

Ukrainian Canadian community will celebrate the accomplishments and contributions

of some of its notable citizens through the Nation Builders & Community Recognition Awards. This year’s ceremony

and luncheon will take place on Sunday, November 6th in the Michelangelo Ballroom of the Radisson Hotel (405

20th Street East) in Saskatoon commencing at 1 PM

COMMUNITY RECOGNITION AWARD HONOUREES

Persons who have made meritorious contributions in one or more of the areas of youth achievement; leadership;

volunteerism; cultural preservation & development; and/or creativity & innovation to the Ukrainian community

and/or Saskatchewan/Canada.

Cultural Preservation & Development Honouree

Fr. Bohdan DEMCZUK (Hamilton, ON-Saskatoon): Ukrainian Orthodox priest, currently serving the North Battleford-

Glaslyn-Hafford Mission District; parish priest of All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Parish in Saskatoon 1990-2011;

author of over 185 articles in Canada, USA, Australia and Ukraine on Ukrainian customs and history of the Church;

leading researcher on the life of Metropolitan Ilarion Ohienko and presented lectures on this topic at universities in

Ukraine; served on the Sunday School Curriculum Board, Constitutional Committee of the Ukrainian Orthodox

Church of Canada; past member of the “Windows to the East” Committee; served as chaplain of numerous

organizations; volunteered in church and community organizations, including Ukrainian Orthodox Parish of All

Saints (parish booth, Saskatoon Exhibition) and Ukrainian Tryzub Society (Ukrainian Karpaty Pavilion, Saskatoon

FolkFest).

Слава Ісусу Христу! Слава Навіки! Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory be Forever! To all our parish members and U.W.A.C. members. Welcome back after hopefully a leisurely summer. I trust that we are well rested, and are ready yet once again to take on the duties and responsibilities that many of us do to benefit our parish, and our community. Joining U.W.A.C. This is a chance to be part of an energetic and effective group that contributes to our parish and community in a tangible and rewarding way. The women’s association meets the last Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. (with exception of December, January and February – these months we meet on Sunday’s after coffee hour) For more information, please contact dobr. 1) Fundraising – funds are raised primarily through the catering of events and our perogy, cabbage roll, borscht bees. Some of the events we do on a regular basis.

- Parish luncheons - Refreshments, coffee and sweets during our coffee hours after the Divine

Liturgy - Pancake Breakfast – for our Ukrainian School Students, Teachers, and Parents - The sale of perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, patychky, kolachi, paskas, babkas - Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale - Easter Tea and Bake Sale

2) Preserve the Ukrainian cultural heritage – our Orthodox faith, our language, our customs, and traditions. 3) Support financially and provide guidance to our youth – Ukrainian School – we teach the students how to make

varenyky (perogies), kolachi, paskas, babkas 4) Maintain a museum, the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, its branches, and subsidiaries. 5) Promote the principle of cultural cooperation with all other Canadian ethnic groups. 6) Promote, develop and continue the evolution of the educational, cultural elements, traditions and language of the

Canadian Ukrainian peoples as a distinctive contribution to the national culture of Canada. I would like to thank all those who volunteer their time to help us in anyway. Our bees are not all just hard work - this is a day of fellowship among all the workers. We are fortunate to have the men of our parish come and help us. You do not have to be a member of U.W.A.C. to help with food preparation. Again thank you to all of our volunteers.
