“Do Everything for Love” I Corinthian 16:13-14

“God’s Love Revealed”

Apostle Paul, clearly stated his personal analysis yet divine inspiration from God- about LOVE that is beyond understanding. His epistle, particularly in 1 Corinthians 13 is a realization on acquiring all the knowledge; capability; ability and power; to include even personal sacrifice that is simplified by LOVE. His definite affirmation about love entails various good characteristics such as patience and kindness; not envy nor being boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

Indeed Love is so amazing, when visitation of loneliness and sadness arrive I always look back on the challenging event of Christ’s life, ministry, death and resurrection. God’s incarnate in Christ unveils the mystery of being with God, where Christ provides believers an inspiration to look beyond the struggles and see the result in Christ’s victory.

Love is an expression; it requires partnership to produce, it is a passion that conquers everything. Love is the most powerful action word that can defeat even your worst enemy, “in order to defeat evil is for good men do nothing” the powerless and hopeless may find refuge upon God’s love. If we have nobody to lean on, God’s Love is always available and sustaining. Contrary to what we know, faith without work is dead and to include hope is an expectation. 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” To “Do” is to act, a requirement that is needed to those who follow Christ. Doing is a response and an act of obedience. A mysterious and disturbing word from “SPOKEN” by T.S. Eliot about hope, “wait without hope”; for hope would be hope for the wrong thing that concludes, faith, hope and love are all in the waiting” these has been called in the three great theological virtues, strength of the martyrs and joy of the saints. Meaning Eliot reminds us to have a positive outlook in life, and become optimistic.

Thus, it concludes that our action sometimes doesn’t always have to be a perfect response. Only God’s love that is revealed in the waiting period is perfect. So do not be desperate and distressed in this time of busy world, because the powerful love of God will cease our anxiety. As Christians, yes, we are expected to perform our Christian virtues, depending on God always and holding on to his perfect love and victory. If we are torn between hate and defeat, if we feel troubled by circumstance, God remains the same, and He is expecting that we turn to His side, focused on Him alone.

UCCP SABANG CHURCH OF CHRIST DISCIPLES 2012

February marks the most and much waited month of the year

celebrating the goodness of love. Love indeed is a many splendored thing;

it encompasses the picture of doing things together. For without love, we

may not celebrate and enjoy the life everlasting. Love is also the language

that speaks beyond understanding.

In a wedding ceremony, love binds us together reminding each one

that love indeed brings two different world together. The Bible as lamp

unto our feet describes that love is the answer to our differences. Apostle

Paul in his letter to the Corinthians purposely invites the Church to

reconciliation. This Church in the Corinthians were known to have been a

struggling Church. They have the difficulty accepting, loving and building

each other. The text that has been used many a times during ceremony of

weddings was actually rooted from a letter written by Paul to the Church

because of the misunderstanding of people within the Church. The clash

and tension begins when we do not acknowledge the need of others,

when we turn to our own nakedness, meaning our own flesh, our own

desire and the need to feed our own hunger for fame, prominence and

glory. In the series of exposures I had in the past month namely: retreat

for Church Workers, Continuing Theological Education and Ordination

Review and Ordination for UCCP Pastors, we were all reminded to Do

Everything in Love.

The Church Workers Magna Carta under relationship with kindred

Church Workers states: Foster cooperation with and among my kindred

church workers and refuse to enter into any competition with them in

order to secure a place of honor, uphold at all times the integrity of my

kindred and thus shall not speak ill of the character or performance of

both predecessor and successor and other church workers. The said lines

according to Bishop Constante Claro (our reviewer/examiner) brings us to

realization that it is always fitting to examine ourselves, yourselves

wherever you are, and that great responsibility and power also comes

temptation and love of self, never to become a vehicle of such

temptation.

In the same breath, struggle for power and neglectful of love and

its meaning end up to division. Remember that Christian history is a story

of division and major schisms, it was not bloom of flowers but was

matured in the hands of God.

This month’s theme for February gives us the challenge,

remembering that Christ’s work for us today and in the ages past were all

grounded and clinched in the spirit of love. Doing everything in love is

the key to a working community of faith.

The Hymn “Hands of God” describes a very profound affirmation

to us saying: The hands of God that guide us through the years. From

doubts and fears those hands have led us through. They call for faith and

hope and love to reign in us. The hands of God that worked for you and

me.

Membership Renewal Month. The month of February

has been designated as Membership Renewal Month in the whole UCCP as per National Council Action 2007. SCCD has complied with this since 2008, the first time it was implemented, thus, she’s one of the UCCP member churches that responded to the call. For 2012, another round of campaign is set forth reiterating that the ADC goes to Property Development Program of the UCCP and that it’s not the amount of P20.00 or more that counts but the sure declaration of being a part of the church, the one Body of Christ.

Third Sunday of February is designated as OFW Sunday as part of our

Membership Advocacy; the Church shall offer prayer for our Kababayans and members abroad.

DISCOVERY CLASS Batch 1 of 2012 is scheduled on February

11 and 18 at 10AM to 12NN. Discovery Class is offered to worshippers who wish to be received formally as regular members of SCCD. This membership class is offered throughout

the year, after which participants are formally received during Sunday worship following the class. Lessons include the six

articles of the UCCP Statement of Faith, Worship and

Sacraments and Church History and ministries of SCCD. Sunday School Teachers workshop enhanced. Over a year

of sustaining workshops through input sharing, now SCCD

CEN will venture to giving teachers and volunteer their

opportunity to teach using themes and simulate teaching

process. This is to fully train and develop teachers of SCCD.

SCCD to receive a

NEW ADMINISTRATIVE PASTOR

In the Special Council Meeting on January 29, 2012. The Church Council Officers convene to act on the pending action for the call of new Administrative Pastor endorsed by the Lowland Cavite South Manila Conference (LCSMC) through the Settlement Committee. It was made clear that local assignment for Church Worker is based on the premise of calling and not application of workers where number of pastors preach and churches take for a pick, this is in resonance to the evolving improvement of the pastors call in the UCCP Process of Call for Church Workers. The Rev. Benjie Gevera preached on January 15, 2012 was welcomed together with Rev. Remy Gevera to SCCD congregation on the said Sunday. A referendum shall follow through for our Church Worker as a faithful vote to declare in prayer a covenant with the Ministry and God’s servant called to shepherd God’s flock.

I was blessed. The camp made me realized that life is full of challenge.. and the only way to solve it is by having faith on our Father. -Daniellie Fauni,14 Life is a big battle… but we should fear not for our Lord will fight for us, we just have to be still.. and believe that our Father in heaven will protect us always…. Sarah, 19

“Ang aking natutunan at masasabi sa Christmas camp

ay nag-enjoy ako dahil kahit na may kaunting

problema akong dala-dala sa pagpunta namin sa pinaka

camp ay nabawasan ito habang lumilipas ang mga araw

namin doon. Doon ako sumaya at doon ko din nailabas

ang mga problema sa aking pamilya. Lalo na sa blessing

of the water, noong hindi pa ako nilulubog sa tubig ay

may kaunting problema akong nararamdaman at

Christmas camp sobra.” Genesis Saquilayan, 14 on “Blessing of the Water” Session

“Para sa akin napakasaya ng nangyari sa camp lalo sa pagpupuri sa Panginoon na dakila sa lahat, ito ang aking masasabi. Kahit pagod ako sa mga challenges, kahit wala akong boses, patuloy akong nagpupuri sa Kanya at hindi ko naisipang sumuko. Kahit na maraming naging challenges sa camp, masaya ako dahil masaya ang lahat at ibinibigay nila ang lahat lahat para kay Hesus.” -Gerson Baysa, 19 on Worship Sessions

“Napakagaan ng aking pakiramdam ng ma-isurrender ko ang mga problema ko at humingi ng kapatawaran sa Diyos.” -Darwin Siervo, 16 on “Surrender all to God”

“Para sa akin, masaya ako sapagkat nung binigay sa akin ang sulat galing sa aking nanay sobrang natuwa ako. Sapagkat doon ko lang naramdaman ang tunay na pagmamahal sa akin ng aking magulang. Nagbigay rin kami ng kanya-kanyang sharings o reaction tungkol sa sulat. Kaming lahat ay sobrang saya.” -Mark Mabbatung, 14 on “Letters from Parents” Session

“Tunay na mabuti ang Diyos. Mainit ang pagmamahal Niya tulad ng apoy sa Campfire. Lalo pang nagpainit ang sigla at tuwa ng mga kapwa ko camper noong gabing iyon. Nakikita ko ang kadakilaan ng Diyos sa tuwing nakakasama ko ang aking mga kapwa kabataan sa pananampalataya na siyang natunghayan ko sa camp na ito. Sa Diyos ang papuri!” - Anjell Samonte, 20 on Campfire

TRAINING OUR CHILDREN

From a young age, children observe the behavior of the significant adults in their lives. What a wonderful opportunity to influence the next generation for Jesus! How do we train children in godliness? We start by investing our time in their lives. Boys and girls need their parents and others to spend quality time with them. Whether it’s through outdoor activities, reading together, or quiet conversation, we can be modeling Christian living. Listening closely is another part of raising our sons and daughters. To influence them toward righteousness, we must know what they are thinking—in other words, what’s important to them and what bothers them. Protecting children through discipline is another aspect of godly parenting. When done with love, this will help them understand the wisdom of God’s boundaries and the importance of self-control. Admitting our mistakes is also necessary, as transparency helps children draw closer to parents. If we seem perfect, kids will find it harder to confess their mistakes to us. Perhaps the most important aspect of training is unconditional love. My mother consistently loved me both when I had success in school and when I didn’t. Because of her steadfast care for me, I tried to do what she would find pleasing. Raising a godly child takes the cooperation of believing parents and family, Christian teachers, and born-again friends. Look for opportunities to spend time with children, listen to their hearts, and demonstrate Christ’s love for them. By modeling godliness, you may influence a life for the Lord.

In The Eyes of Faith… by: Allyan Jell Samonte Doing is an act of being, of existing, of being at the moment, having your momentum at the present time, to do is to act. It is the act of carrying out something, it is the act of performing. Everything is the entirety; the sum of all, the whole of what is there or existing. Something that is very important, all-important. All under the sun. In is the state of being inside. At the moment. Within. After. During. Indicates how one thing is expressed. Indicates subject area. Indicates belongingness. Love is an affection. a desire. To show kindness. To like something very much. Worship and adoration. The epitome of all emotions. The fuel and the drive. A very strong word for passionate liking and interest. Something that elicits enthusiasm. In the last chapter of the book of the first Corinthians, Paul leave the people of Corinth with some of the most vital principles in Christian Living- Be on guard, be firm in faith, be men of courage, be strong and do everything in love. The last principle was under a new verse as if to sum up what is to be done for all time. In the actuality of things, we cannot always do something in love. Reality is, we won’t always have a win-win situation in life, sacrifices are always made and setbacks are always expected. You cannot expect one person to be of the same priorities as you are, experiencing the same kind of joy whenever you are serving the Lord or simply doing something. Nevertheless, we cannot change people on how they perceive ideas, beliefs and attitude. We never can and we never will. Why? Because only Jesus can. But this doesn’t mean that we must not persevere to do such thing. We could always pray and ask God for His guidance. Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit to empower us to do unimaginable things, to remind us to be always alert and to stand firm with everything we say. Doing everything in love may mean several things to several people. We experience various situations in life and we are different from each other. Bible texts are most of the time, during application, contextual. They relate to us and become significant accordingly. Personally, doing everything in love means not giving up and not letting others discourage you for what you are doing. It means being courageous of your every step and being happy and contented with what you are achieving. It could also be expressed as doing everything as how Jesus would do something. To behave like Christ and to pattern our principles as His. The person who does everything in love is soaked in the goodness of God’s love. Whenever people ask me if I am in love, I tend to answer yes. I mean, who wouldn’t be? If everyday you experience God’s love, from the simple smile of a friend to the grandeur of a sunset. God’s love is so contagious that you can’t help but to feel it and share it. So the next time somebody asks you if you’re in love, think about God’s love and how Jesus has shown it, and declare Yes I am!

Camp Insights............. Magpasalamat tayo sa Diyos dahil nagkaroon tayo ng tatay na tulad nila.‖ Cherlene Sapida, 14 on “What’s your Father Like?”

Johnmark Luna, 20 on “Letters from Parents” Session

Lean red meats (only once or twice a week), such as flank steak, skirt steak, and beef tenderloin, and 90 percent "extra lean" ground beef

Baked potatoes with the skin left on for extra fiber

Fiber-rich whole-grain pasta and bread, and brown rice

Round out his plate or lunch bag by filling half of it with fruits and vegetables — fresh ones are best.

2. Keep Him Moving Have you heard about the recent study in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise that found that people who sit for most of the day — as most of us do— were 54% more likely to die of a heart attack?

If your spouse has a desk job, remind him of the importance of taking a few short, quick walks throughout the day to get his blood flowing.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking. It's fine to spread out your exercise by taking a 10-minute brisk walk, three times a day, five days a week to reach the 150 minute total, according to the CDC. Playing outdoor games with your kids is another great way to get him moving and relieve his 9-to-5 stress.

3. Know His Heart-Health Digits Heart disease is the leading cause of death and half of the men who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no warning signs. Knowing your man's numbers from important heart health screenings could save his life.

Knowing his body mass index (BMI) is a key sign of whether he is in good cardiovascular health. A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is ideal. Other important numbers to know include his:

Blood pressure - This should be lower than 120/80 mm Hg. Have it checked every one to two years, or more frequently if his numbers have been high in the past.

Cholesterol - A total cholesterol level of 200 mg/dL is ideal. Have it checked starting at age 35, or earlier if he uses tobacco, is obese, has diabetes or high blood pressure, or has a personal or family history of heart problems.

Blood glucose - Blood glucose levels are a marker for diabetes, which can go hand in hand with heart disease. Adults ages 45 and older should consider having their blood glucose level tested every three years, or more often if they are overweight or have heart disease.

Men ages 45 and older should also ask their doctor if they should take aspirin to help prevent heart disease. 4. Curb His Cancer Risk Staying on track with cancer screenings may help extend your hubby's life. See if he is due for these screenings:

Skin cancer and other cancers - All men ages 20 and older should have periodic doctor visits that include a cancer-related check-up for cancers of the skin, thyroid, oral cavity, lymph nodes, and testes.

Colorectal cancer - Screenings should start at age 50, or earlier if he has a family history of it. Colonoscopies certainly aren't pleasant, but they are only needed once every 10 years.

Prostate cancer - A prostate screening many not be necessary for your man, unless his father or brother had prostate cancer before age 65. He should talk with his doctor at age 45 about what is right for him.

Many men avoid medical check-ups like the plague. Remind your guy that visiting his doctor at least every two years, taking any prescribed medications, and having recommended screenings will help him avoid medical attention down the road.

4 Key Steps to Keep Your Hubby Healthy by Erin Dower

Let's face it — between working long hours and being a seemingly invincible superdad, the man in your life could use some help staying healthy. Whether your husband seems like the picture of good health or the poster child for unhealthy habits, check out these simple tips and recommended screenings. Getting him on the right track now will help bolster his health in his later years.

1. Patrol His Plate Does your husband love meat and potatoes? That's okay — just make sure he chooses the right versions. Processed meats, such as hotdogs and deli cold cuts, and fried and fatty potatoes, such as French fries and chips, are bad for his waistline and his heart health. Instead, he should opt for:

Lean meats, such as white meat chicken and turkey, and pork tenderloin, and oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel, and trout

This drink will help the person who's going thru a heart attack. First few minutes is

very critical. This was recommended by a doctor

Immediate Relief for High Blood Pressure

3/4 tsp Baking Soda 1 tsp Citric Acid 1 glass Water

Direction: Mix together and drink. Also soak feet to warm Water.
