The Falcon Beat Glendale High School Bands

Letter From the Editor

W elcome to the new school year and marching season! We are very happy to have all of you with us, either

playing in or supporting the Glendale Band program. Fall is a very busy time filled with early morning

rehearsals, sectionals, fundraisers, performances at football games and parades, as well as marching competitions.

While our Band Director is on medical leave, we have extra incentive to work that much harder and make Mr.

Cronkhite proud. His Assistant Director, Mr. Seth Cunningham, and semi-retired Band Director, Ms. Carla Woot-

ton, have stepped up to teach and direct the band through our new field show – Into the Cosmos.

According to the website, box-six.com, our show is meant to take the audience on a journey through space, re-

minding them how small we all are in comparison, while reigniting fascination with the unknown. The composi-

tion is inspired by The Planets by Gustav Holst, Radiohead and Tron, as well as a variety of interstellar music.

Meant to sound full and be filled with character, I believe this music and the accompanying drill will be a treat for

all of us!

The Glendale Band currently has a roster of 119 with 13 of those students performing in color guard which is

coached by Ms. Mary Jo Miller. With a larger ensemble, it becomes more and more necessary to utilize the chain

of command and rely on youth leadership. Each instrument group has Section Leaders which serve as supervisors

for their smaller group. These leaders can provide discipline as well as assistance. You may hear a student saying

they had to run laps or do pushups for being late or not learning their part. Your respect for leadership at this lev-

el allows Drum Majors and Band Directors to focus on larger issues important to the band. The better we work

within our sections, the better the band will sound when united. Being a good team member means showing up

on time, practicing, and learning your part. Section Leaders are a wonderful resource to help you do just that.

With students, staff, volunteers, and family members working together I have no doubt the 2016 marching season

will be a wonderful, exciting, and memorable experience! Warmly, Peggy Russell

Dear Boosters,

Hello and welcome to the 2016-2017

Glendale Falcon Regiment marching season! I was

able to attend and help at band camp in July. I had

the opportunity to talk with students and hear and

see what they accomplished that week. It was a

wonderful week and I completely enjoyed being

there. I witnessed disciplined, hard working, students

with a great attitude! It was certainly a joy. I am

looking forward to our first football game and our

first competition in Sedalia. I hope that many of our

parents will be in attendance to support our stu-

dents!

We have much to be proud of. ~Christy Dilday

A Word From the President

The band fee for the 2016-2017 school year is $300

per student. The first payment of $150 was due on

or before August 8, 2016. The payment may be sent

to school with your student or mailed to Glendale

Band Boosters, P. O. Box 14344, Springfield, MO

65814. Payments brought to school should be

placed in the black mailbox next to Mr. Cronkhite’s

office. If you would like to pay with a debit or credit

card, you may do so on your student’s Charms ac-

count. You will need a PayPal account which is easy

to set up with a credit card. You may pay the total

$300 fee by choosing “pay fixed payment” or make a

partial payment by choosing “make miscellaneous

payment.” If you have questions about PayPal or

the Charms account, please feel free to contact me.

My email is [email protected] and my phone

number is 417-343-4772. The second payment of

$150 is due by January 31, 2017, but your student

will have several opportunities to participate in fund-

raising this fall. Profits from fundraising can be ap-

plied to this payment. Thank you to those parents

who have already paid all or part of the fees. This

has helped the band boosters with beginning of the

year expenses. ~Pam Robertson

The Treasurer’s Note

Your black marching shoes and

white socks look great together.

Between Tuesday, September 6, and Tuesday, September 20, band

students will be selling Sonic cards for $5 each. This fundraiser brings

in 100% profit and goes toward a student’s band fees. The first

coupon saves $4 and there are nine more to go! Once a student returns

the funds from their first set, they may check out more cards to sell.

This year the Boosters will be selling

ornaments at Glendale football games.

Both flat and round will be available and

come individually packaged - perfect for

gift giving at $7 each. Order Yours at a

Game! * Please contact Kari Wolfe to

volunteer: [email protected]

This year’s Show shirt is navy and fea-

tures the NASA logo with our band and

show titles. The front was designed by

Eli Barnes and all members of the band

are listed on the back. Corrections:

Midori Williams, Jensen Sivils, Trenten

Booe.

The band looks great in these matching

shirts and so can our band community!

We will have extras for sale at the

ornament table for $10 each and can

order more as needed. What a great

way to show our community’s pride and

love for the Falcon Regiment!
