Dear Brothers and Sisters,
A few months ago, someone stopped me in the Vestibule
at Saint Michael’s, pointed to the plaque that honors the
memory of our parishioners who have honorably served in
the United States Armed Services, and asked how a name
may be added to it.
In consultation with the members of our Core Staff, we’ve
decided to be very deliberate in our updating of the Honor
Roll plaques at Saint Mary’s and Saint Michael’s.
Therefore, we’ve decided to add the names of parishioners
who have served in the Armed Services on Veterans’ Day
(November 11) in every odd-numbered year. As
November 11, 2019 is only two months away now, and it is
time to update our plaques, I humbly ask your help in this
endeavor, and would like to formally invite you to submit
your name or the name of a fellow parishioner who has
faithfully served in one of the branches of the Armed
Services if that name is not already displayed. I invite you
to do this by the end of September so that we have the
necessary time to have the plaques updated before
Veterans’ Day, which falls on a Monday this year.
On the weekend of November 9-10, the eve of Veterans’
Day, we, as a family of faith, will remember at Mass those
who have served, and will commend our deceased
veterans to the Mercy of God during the month in which
the Church asks her children to pray for the dead with
special fervor.
On a different note, a blessed patronal feast day to all of
the people of Saint Mary’s, who rejoice under the
protection of Our Lady, who was born of Saints Anne and
Joachim. Through her intercession, may we draw ever
closer to her Son, and may she watch over these United
States and all who serve this nation with courage and
honor.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Reverend Scott S. Woods
Pastor
