This weekend Jesus warns that if a hand, a foot, an eye or anything else would cause us to sin, we should get rid of them. Not literally, of course, but figuratively, meaning, we have to avoid all (company, relationships, and situations) that will lead us away from God’s love and heaven for, “Better for one to enter the kingdom of God (maimed, crippled or with one eye) than to be thrown into Gahanna (Hell)…” What will you do or avoid this week so you can live in God’s plan now?

Pope Francis, who has just visited America, has the same challenge for us in order that we may live in God’s plan. Be-fore his visit I heard from the news about the divide amongst conservatives and liberals as to if the Holy Father will align or be challenging their tenets. One commentator got my attention when he said that the Catholic Church cannot and should not be bound by the low and narrow ideologies of either conservatism or liberalism. It is about the high road that will lead to doing God’s will. That is the challenge for all of us. I pray that the papal visit and message will challenge all of us individually and as a nation to cut off things that will lead us away from God’s plan no matter how beautiful and comforting they may seem.

Next Sunday, October 4th is the 28th Annual National Life Chain that will be held for an hour in front of St. Mary’s beginning at 2:30PM. We will have approved signs for all who come. It will be a quiet time of prayer for the protection of all unborn babies. Come be a light in a darkened world as you help to witness to the sanctity of human life. Do you re-spect life according to God’s plan? Please consider joining the Respect Life Ministry. There will be a meeting at the rectory immediately following this National Life Chain at St. Mary’s (approx. 3:30PM). COME and check out what this ministry is about. In celebration of the Month of the Rosary, we will gather at 10:15AM (before the 11AM Mass) on Sun-day October 11th, in our beautiful Memorial Prayer Garden to pray the Rosary for Life together. Please join us.

October 1st is Nigerian Independ-ence Day, the country of my birth. Nigeria gained independence from Great Britain in 1960. Often peo-ple ask me, “How is Nigeria? What language do they speak?” Nigeria is

the most populous country in Africa, about half of the U.S., that is approximately 175 million people. The land mass is estimated to be the size of Texas and half. They have over one hundred dialects but English is the Lingua Fran-ca (common language). There are many tribes ranging from a couple hundred people in a tribe to bigger ones with over 20 million people in a tribe. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic nation.

Recently, members of ImaBridge Africa met with Bishop Malloy to present to him a report of their works in Nigeria. In response, Bishop Malloy has sent a letter to all parishes stating that our diocese has approved mission in Nigeria through ImaBridge Africa. The letter from the Bishop is at the right.

Two brainstorming meetings took place and the third one originally scheduled for September 19th has been rescheduled for October 3rd: Please adjust your calendars!!!

As a reminder: St. Patrick’s New Women’s Ministry

will consist of the following 3 groups:

1. The Ministry of Mothers (meeting on 9-24-15)

2. The “Mid-Ladies” group (name TBD meet on 9-19-15)

3. The Ladies Guild (all 3 groups meet on 10-3-15)

Our goal is to ensure all ladies of the parish are engaged and participate in fellowship within a supportive ministry for women.

The Intention of this Devotion is to console the Immaculate Heart of Mary by offering reparation for the blasphemies and ingratitude of unrepentant sinners, and for peace in the world.

The promise of our Blessed Mother Mary is to assist at the hour of death all those who complete the following require-ments on the First Saturday of five consecutive months. On each of the first Saturdays the following is necessary:

1.Go to confession. Available at St. Patrick beginning at 7:30AM. (Confession can be completed eight days before or after the First Saturday provided the communicant is in a state of grace when receiving The Lord.)

2.Receive Holy Communion - Mass will begin at 8:00AM 3.Say five decades of the Holy Rosary - Recited after Mass 4.Meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Holy

All the requirements can be fulfilled at St. Patrick if you chose to stay after Mass for the Rosary and Meditation. You may complete the 3rd/4th requirements at a later time, but it must be completed on that Saturday.

A Walk for Catholic Education

The Catholic Order of Foresters is sponsor-ing a walk to raise funds to assist parents

in paying the tuition costs for a Catholic Education at Montini School. The walk will take place on Saturday morning, October 10, 2015 at Shamrock Park (on Dart-moor Drive between Curran and Draper Roads). Registra-tion will begin at 8:00AM with the walk beginning at 9:00AM. All walkers are asked to raise a minimum of $10 (more if possible) to be eligible for the walk. All money is due the morning of the walk. Those of us who are parents know that we often sacrifice to put our children’s needs before our own. But what does a parent do when, despite careful budgeting and sacrificing, there simply isn’t any food to put on the dinner table? St. Vin-

cent de Paul delivers food to needy families across the McHenry area to help parents put meals on the table. Food is often the most requested item when our neighbors in need call the SVdP hotline. Your donations to the poor box allow local parents the dignity and relief to know their children will be fed. Proverbs 22:9 “Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.”

Baptism of Infants: To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism before your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is required for the parents. This class is offered on the 1st Sun-day of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.

Sacraments

Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an over-view of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be regis-tered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Patrick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE. The Sisters of the Im-maculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ affectionate-ly called Blue Nuns, hope to conclude the first phase of fundraising to convert Old St. Francis Hospital building into Madonna Renewal Center, a haven for young preg-nant women and their children for up to 2 years.

The goal is to open Madonna Renewal Center in October 2016 to empower young pregnant mothers through nurtur-ing personal worth, love for children, development of self-esteem, and practical life skills for employment and independ-ent living. We started this project trusting in miracles and God has been faithful.

So, far we have raised over $160,000 of the $300,000 needed to complete the First Phase of the project. This includes: drain repair, asbestos and mold removal, major brick work and cleaning and restoration of some equipment. There will be a Raffle Drawing for a 1957 Chevrolet vehicle provided by an anonymous donor at a Brat Fest on Oct. 17th to help with this fundraising. The Sisters will be here at St. Pat-rick next weekend, October 3rd and 4th, to ask for your support of this effort. They will be selling raffle tickets for the car. Tickets are $100 each and there are a limited number (500) tickets available. 1st price is the pictured 1957 Chevy BelAir with less than 80K original miles. 2nd place is $750 and 3rd place is $500. The car will be here that weekend so that you will be able to take a look at it. If you are una-

ble to purchase a raffle ticket, the Sisters will also be grateful for any donations that you might be able to make towards the cost of renovation of the Old St. Francis Hospital into the Madonna Renewal Center.

The vision for The Madonna Renewal Center is a safe haven that will offer hope and healing to women in need. A 12 to 24 month program for young adult pregnant women and their infants. The objective is to empower women through variety of structured curriculum that nurture personal worth and love for their children. The curriculum will aid each per-son to acquire self-esteem and develop practical life skills for employment and independent living. For more information visit www.madonnarenewalcenter.org.
